If anyone wants a good example of a report, look here. "Im afraid the deathstar is FULLY operational" was golden. Wonderfully written and I even ended up not skipping a sentence (that = killing 12 3/3/3 speed upped zealots with 1 0/0 vulture). Lighthearted, funny reports are a great way to go.

If you would care for me to expand upon my seemingly harsh judgment, I will do so now.
Whoop spells perhaps one word in three correctly. He's too busy (or just too good) to keep from using inane abbreviations for unit names (like ling, hatch, gate). Punctuation is apparently completely foreign to Whoop.
The outcome of this game was never, ever in doubt. It was the one of the most obvious displays of self-promotion since Ghost~Lizard.
In closing, Whoop is little more than a macro whore with poor language skills and a well-known name. Anyone else writes this report, it gets a five. If I wrote it, I certainly wouldn't want my name on it. |

Hey Dev its true there are some spelling errors as well as grammer. Its also true that this BR wasn't anything more than shameless self promotion. But to call me "little more than a macro whore with poor language skills.." is just a little ridiculous. I mean my goodness I can micro with just about anyone, but Macro is how you win games. Yes, Whoop can't spell every word perfectly, nor does he ever put in any HTML, nor is the outcome in his BR's usually in doubt.
But his reports are damn entertaining.
Consider this too Dev: you've said several times how you love my Newbieland reports. However, most of those reports don't have HTML, and you know who's going to win. But they are entertaining. So....what's the difference? |

I rate reports based mainly on how much do I like it, not HTML, neeto graphics, grammers or other fancy stuff. Of course, if those things entertain me I'd rate them higher. So unless grammers/spelling is really really bad, it won't affect my rating.
I just found it entertaining how trash-talker got their asses kicked. Not much on how whoop won, but those losers lose. =] |

JSH: You have a sense of humor. You can also spell. Your reports are entertaining because they make the newbie and his stupid tactics the star. The newbieland reports say "Look how much of a moron this newbie is!" Whoop's reports only say "Look how cool I am!"
FLS: I personally thought that grammar (yes grammar, with an 'a', no wonder you don't care about it) and spelling are directly related to the effective presentation of the BR and should addressed in the rating. According to the BR writing guides, this is so... hmmm... what happened?
I don't require snazzy graphics or HTML. I only require clear, concise writing, a decent story, and a writer without a ridiculous ego. This report had NONE of that.
Before you accuse me of the above-stated ego problem, you'll notice that the only decent game I reported with me in it, I berated myself for my own stupid tactics. Nearly every other report I've written, I've been in an observer slot. |

It doesn't matter. The point I'm trying to make is that the top priority for rating reports for myself is how much enjoyment I got from reading them. Every other aspects are not as important as that.
If someone writes in such a bad grammar that I can't actually read his report and understand it, then obviously I won't be enjoying it, thus a poor rating. Poor grammars make the report bad only because it makes the readers hard to read them, not the "poor English skills" that it sounds like. |

| I don’t know Dev, I pretty much like the stuff that whoop writes. Is it ego laden? Yeah! Is it self-promotion? Yeah! Does it lack polish and contain errors? Yeah! Does it make the report less enjoyable to read? I don't think it does. It was a fun read, which is all that really matters. I have written 6-7 BRs on this sight, all getting gold. However none of them match the personality and humor that comes across in whoop's BRs. Polish and Hoopla doesn’t always make a report enjoyable. This report was fun to read, even if I knew whoop was going to win. |

I actually think the self-promotion aspect was done tongue-in-cheek style and it was more about making fun of two whiny trash talkers. I know Whoop and he's not an arrogant guy so that's why I found it humorous and didn't think "God this Whoop guy is so full of himself!"
I also wonder, Dev, if you dislike Whoop and/or this report because his game is 99% macro, and you've made no secret about how you hate macro, and think it's not "strategy" or "fun"? Hate to tell you this, but winning in Starcraft is more about power than it is about strategy.

Btw- In my defense. In the 1st part of this report Whoop stated that I had my head up... a very dark place. Um, I got pooled and I had went 2x hatch. I never saw anyone scout me, therefore I was hit unprepared. I ended up losing my pool and some drones as my few lings "popped" out. I was able to wax the lings, but I then got hit by 3 or so zeals. I got some help and stayed alive with 3-4 drones. I also started morphing another pool. Eventually I had about 18-24 lings and through scouting the zerg, found he was morphing a spire. He had 2-3 sunkens, but no troops. I figured this was my window of opportunity. I attacked and was barely pushed back with the aid of his drones. Unfortunatly Whoop had called an attack on the toss, that I ignored. As I said, I had no anti air, and whoop was a ways away. I figured that had the zerg got any air out, I was toast. Shortly after my failed attack, the toss that whoop wanted to kill, overran me and ronin.

Indeed whoop's typing ability negatively affects his grammar in the sense that he's typing faster than he can EC his grammar (if you don't understand this concept dev then you = poor or slow typer). I know that I type at around the rate of 120 wpm and with EC I type at about 96 wpm. Many fast typers, whoop included, have this same typing/grammar problem and a typist's laziness serves only to inflame the whole deal.
My typing (not know jerk ass!), when under the watchful eye of EC, may be considered "good grammar." When typing without EC, however, my grammar is reduced to the lingo I am most comfortable with -- The University of Notre Dame's best effort at countering the effects of a secondary education in an ebonics/slang speaking environment.
This may have little to do with Whoop's post but it brings my swiftly to my conclusion. Whoop posted this BR with the intention of sharing his battle experiences on the battle.net ladder with the members of this community. Whoop posted on another forum that he hoped to receive some input on how he could improve his game and to look for these reports and be ready to help him out. Sadly, some of the comments were limited to, "Whoop = own," (you can include me in that bunch), and hardly any actually responded to the whole "help me with my game topic." Your post in fact doesn't serve any purpose whatsoever and only perpetuates further useless posting (such as this post). Thus, if you are jealous of Whoop's BW ability and need to find some vice or flaw about him that you can belittle do it some where else. And as for you, Pitt, I see your point, although I don't agree with it. I've never actually clocked my typing speed, but I've gotten so used to typing with proper spelling and punctuation, even at high speed, that I can't fathom anyone else having a problem with it.

This is the build that Grrr/Atlas talk about on the SC.org site? I really like it vs zerg. I guess it's the flexibility ... if they go lings and hydras you can kill them with zealots. If they go mutas then it's too easy to switch gears and get 6-8 goons out in short order.
The first time I used that against a zerg opponent the reponse was 'How the heck did you build so many units? You out produced me out of a 3 hatch.'
