Great game to report on by the looks of it. I wish I could have seen Maynard expand whorily in that game.

Good report although you spoiled by telling who was gonna win in the very beginning.

Just a brief question..
when Maynard did the mad quadruple expand when Pillars pulled his troops back, what type of defense did he set up for them? It seems on the minimap like they were just 2 hatches at each exp...in that case were there hydras at each of the bases? Or did he just rely on his ability to move his hydras from say the middle of the map to anywhere else on the map?
On the same note...what type of defenses were set up on his main and initial expansion? Just 1 sunken at the exp and none at the main? Just curious, thanks a bundle.

It wasn't Maynard's getting big which alone won him the game. I was more impressed with his strategic movements and by his presence of mind.
His burrow trick at 3 probably won him the game.

Wowsers, we need more reports like this :-b. "Took the window to expand 4 times and adding 6 hatches which brings his total to 10."
Yikes :-b.

I thought Maynard was going ling swarm with his early build. That looks like the classic 3-hatch ling swarm from starcraft.org. It's pretty interesting that he does this but then builds a sunken and powers. Hmm, I've never seen that b4, will have to try.

How in the world did Maynard let Pillars's probe stay in his base? I just got done a couple of weeks ago blasting some poster on b.net who was trying to tell me that expert players are negligent in scouting the FOW in their bases... I told him that even the pub players (true) do this to get rid of things like O cannons and what not.

That high sunken cliff siege was pretty funny on Pillars's expansion. I guess at that point in the game, if you need more hatches for more units, might as well stick the hatch somewhere where it'll be useful for other reasons too. I'll have to keep that in mind as well.

Yes, I'd also like to know what kind of D Maynard built at those expansion hatches. I guess he was just counting on putting Pillars on D so that he would scout those locations?

Sweet mother of god 80K+ resource score in a 37 minute game!!?!!! WOW. This report ruled, because it showed me a little insight on how the god's of SC play.

That has got to be the best report I have read on Temple for 3 reasons:

The tactics
The skill
The match

Man... I tell you what, you DO NOT want to leave Maynard alone for any amount of time. You might be feeling cocky expanding 2x's, only to come across 20 of his. What scary about Maynard is his ability to manage his economy, produce troops, and micro battle all at the same time. Great report.

Btw.. it's not called Maynard transfer for nothing.

We're not worthy, we're not worthy, to quote Wayne and Garth. Maynard is the man. I would like to have him as my smurfin partner in a series of 2 on 2's against all the people who have been mean to me on Bnet over the years (you know all those people calling me a newbie and stuff). I could basically sit back and watch as Maynard takes map control and powers my enemies into the ground.
#16 Gruntwrapper[23118]
dialup-cle24.nls.net
I gather from this BR that Maynard had skimped HEAVILY on units/defense until he had expanded across the map. His opponent simply never truly tested his defenses.

I see this a lot actually in observing games. Oftentimes the loser could have been the winner if he had been more aggressive.

If I saw *2* hatches at my enemy's natural, I start hunting for the spawning pool. Doesn't take long for a strike force of zlots to kill that. Then whatcha got, boy? Drones? hehe.

It's not really 80 k of resources. It's the points, including ammount of minerals, gas and expediture.
#18 shockwave[23122]
exchange1.sensable.com
Grunt: Actually, I doubt you'll be able to get the spawning pool in time. In fact, when I see 3 hatches, I normally withdraw because there's a risk of losing your early zealots. You have about 10 seconds or so between when your first zealot gets there, and when his pool finishes and he can start morphing lings from his 2 hatches (the 3rd will not be done by that time). That's enough to overpower any 2-gate zealot build at that stage. What I *would* do is chase his drones around and kill his econ. The beauty of 3 hatch is that it is neither a rush or a power build. It is BOTH. The zergie can switch at any time between drones and zergling.
And yes, scouting is crucial :-). If you don't want to waste a zealot to scout, use a probe. Just have it mine a mineral patch at the scout location (in this case, the 3 and 6 o'clocks). This way, it'll give you recon, it'll get you a few mins :-b and pay for its cost eventually, and it will also be able to pass through any troops that it meets since it's mining.
#19 [23125]
pool0038.cvx10-bradley.dialup.earthlink.net
I think a tactic that could have been used is to cannon in the powering zergie and then push in from there. This can work extremely well against someone who is making a lot of drones because by the time they start powering troops they are locked up tight. I should know its been done to me.
#20 shockwave[23130]
exchange1.sensable.com
Hey Whoop,

How many cannons do you need, and how do you support them? I've had some people cannon against me when I 3-hatch. I just make 2 dozen lings or so from my 3 hatches and then wipe the cannons out. I've found that exposed cannons get taken out by lings cost-effectively even if they're flush against each other. But I'd love to be proven wrong if you have any ideas on this? Maybe cannons across a narrow choke with some zealots stationed in front would work well?

hehe. You should of seen maynard in my 2on2 with him vs [9]kain and [9]ntt!! he owns:). Well, maynard can't lose.

You need to knock out his exps, as soon as they finish, with leg zeals, storm, archons, reavers.. etc. Make about 4-5 cannons at all your exp's, watch out for drops, get TONS of storm and reavers. Dweb also helps if your alive.

BTW, I know this because he told me if he loses thats how he loses and I played him

Maynard has not heard of D "ie 1 sunken at his natural, it was killed and rebuilt, then 1 at his minerals only" Maynard's tactic was to keep Pillars constantly busy by attacking at several places at once and by pumping mad units. He only tried building a huge force up once. Of course with 19 hatches you can produce an amazing amount of units.

as for the probe in maynard's base. Maynard flew an OL right over it and knew it was there (i think he did anyway). Pillars later used it to scout, but maynard didn't build any buildings in his main. Den was built at his natural, not sure where his evolution chambers were, but Spire was at 6's minerals only.

Don't ask me how that got posted 2x.

I keep a stopwatch next to my computer for starcraft play, and time exactly how long it should take build orders. I'll do a double-hatch at the natural + lings, then a zlot rush and see what size the protoss force will be and report back.
#28 Gruntwrapper[23220]
dialup-cle24.nls.net
Ok, I know why it sent the post 2x, cant refresh w/o it posting last mesg.

2 hatches at your natural with a sunken behind that and a control group of lings will take about 5 mins.

A protoss will be able to get a control group of zlots to the zerg base in about the same amount of time.

5-6 zlots can be in place around when the pool finishes.

It might be just possible to almost ko the pool before the first lings arrive. Its close. I ought to try this out vs a human.

Maynard do own. Just something i dont understand is that u said with the 1st rush they both lost aprrox same money spent. 12 lings and a sunken. BUT in the pic we see 2 dead drones and zeals are still alive + other drones stop mining. OH well who cares :)

SSD4 u shud shut the fuck up with ur maynard observing gayness shit. My opinion.

Peace all, cya on bnet
#30 Binary[23540]
odo.computerstudies.ca
Grunt, if Zerg does 10/9 hatch to pool, he will have zerglings when you get there with 1 zealot to harass.
As for rushing with 12 zealots outta triple hatch, i wouldn't advise it. The ovie over your base with let him know exactly how many sunks and lings to build.
And he'll use his gas on lurkers.
Which means you need to expand and dbl gas.
and maybe still die.
Ask Lewis.
