All right, here's the first comment by someone who actually read the report....
I was impressed with the misdirection tactic described in this game, and would like to see a few more battle reports with this level of cunning and deception. Good job, TC! |

One thing about this strat: I bet mark4 never falls for it again.
I got it done to me twice, once by some unknows korean ladder player, and once by t_mac.
Since then I'm always sure to scout ALL possible positions, a neat variation on this tactic, is to expand to the 12 o'clock mineral only (no one ever looks there) build 5 hatches and just go zerglings from that base while using your other base to do mutas or lurkers or something that might minor damage(I like to use mutas to piss off/harass ppl).
Good job.

Heh, did you know that Mark4 = AQD3??
Sounds like Mark is practicing Terran, he did win one game last night with a finishing of 3 waves of scvs.
The bluff strategy is interesting, but will lose to an offensive Terran using dropships, since you won't have the troop power to stop that type of attack =). Once Terran gets dropships, zerg must pay constant attention to massing a mobile a force, since sunkens can't be used to bail yourself out. Zerg can't support mutas from one base, and if you try lurkers after second hatch, spire, and sunkens, you will be behind enought that Terran can use M&Ms to beat lurkers. |

my 2 cents on this match-up and ur strat:
i haven't lost much zerg vs terran recently cuz of muta/lurker combo... basically while terran spends ages sieging my front u muta his main. once i even put up 11 sunkens in front with lings at main scouting for drops
but again - it's not hard for terran 2 defeat this, a turret and a bunker is all they need near their mineral, and i wouldn't go as far as sacrificing my main for a sneaky exp somewhere else for this kinda strat cuz marines will always take out mutas.
and as for fake lurker dropping... i think it actually incourages the extra turret/bunker around mineral
the thing'bout muta is u gotta do it soon - before losing ur main (hoping his marines will go home 2 chase ur mutas around), waiting till u have 16+ mutas is in my opinion kinda late and risky
i remember once a terran ran his m&m home to save scv's and i just sent like 40 zerglings out to kill the sieged up tanks and game kinda ended there
last point - make sure u have plenty of hatcheries, and 2nd hatch at exp instead of ramp might save u the trouble of having to sneak out drones |

| Thats the prolem with a tank push. It takes FOREVER and leaves your main open. Although I would THINK every Terran should tech to science vessels at some point. Actually, lots of players go super fast Gaurdians which TAKES SKILL BY A TERRAN TO STOP. I have been playing Terran lately on ladder and about 60% of players go lurks, the rest go gaurds or are stupid and do something else. |

| I did something like this once. On Temple, I was Toss at 9:00, guy was Zerg at 3:00. I went to expand at 12:00, I put a pylon and some cannons at the choke, and started warping in the Nexus. He spotted the cannons, and sent a sizeable force to crush my expansion. I quickly cancelled the Nexus, hid the probe in the corner, and sent my army to counter, and somehow the combination of the cannons and my army coming up the other way stopped his advance. So then I just started cannoning in the 12:00 spot choke. I never actually did set up an expansion there, but he thought I did. He dropped on the right-hand ledge and sent a force straight down to take out the cannons, but they held. So I put more cannons on the ledge, which stopped the next drop entirely. By that time I took out his main and won. He spent the whole game trying to take out an expansion that didn't exist! |

Hmm.. I'd be hardpressed to say a strategy that relies on poor scouting by your opponent is a strong one.
Still, mutas are a solid choice vs terran, especially when you get the terran expecting lurkers. It can really be a low blow when your 8 mutas hit a nearly undefended SCV line. |

| proxy1.gvcl1.bc.wave.home.com |
| Yeah if your terran opponent isn't expecting the mutas then he may be screwed but don't even try it when they know you have mutas. Medics and marines eat them up too bad. |

good job. I really don't think zerg are owned by terrans. What I do vs. terrans (even though I'm not a major zerg player):
early expand, and put sunkens up.
get a quick lair, with hydra den at the same time
get a queens nest
get broodling
basically, broodling tanks, and use hydras and sunknes for defense. Also containg terrans is good, to keep them from expanding. Then you either tech to defilers with dark swarm and consume, or tech to ultras.
p.s. I also now go by UseR~)(~ |

You know I tried that, but when I took an expansion behind his back. But being the great crapy SC player I am didn't scout well and he took an island expansion and was apparently making Valks and Wraiths. Because when I knocked at his door with 18+ muts, he opened with 12+ wraiths and valks with about half of them being valks. Lucky me. Great report though a new strat that someone can try is the reason I come to Battlenet.

Sneaking out a drone to expand is always a good idea. We all sometimes get lazy and forget to scout the other starts, especially if as Terran you're concentrating most your energy on your push. Misdirection is risky, but it can also sometimes allow you to beat a player that's vastly superior to you. Heh, when I get into matchups where I KNOW I'm going to lose, I'll try really risky strats since I know I'll lose conventionally ;-).
Mutas vs. Terran is a good strategy if you can handle it correctly. Yes, mutas lose to M&M's, but you can also really catch him off guard and win the game right there if he's been lax on building marine/meds or has them elsewhere. There's a good muta strat versus Terran at "Tao of Gaming". |

| relay.atinc.com |
Mark4 was this you? Admittedly, he's played terran very little... but Mark usually scouts.
I've had this type of strategy fail more often than work for me, because you are counting on your opponent to make a mistake for you to win, rather than winning no matter what he does.
You can also spire in your own base and cover it up with overlords, so that a scan can't see it, and it can't be selected. |
