Ok, I'm bored and no one else is spamming my comment section so I guess I will.

Talon: I never mess up my backgrounds. Though I can't remember the last time I wasn't accused of doing so. Browser error. Its all browser error, I say.

Sp|nE: Heh, revenge's a bitch.

::nobody::: Hehe, I was so pissed when I saw that you did a report with her in it. (I had already started mine) Your reports kick ass. Yeah Bob's cool. Plus there is always next month. Put more animes in your reports and you're a lock. I was going to put one in mine but I opted for the elves instead.

JV: Kick Ass. But whats with this site being down. Don't scare me like that.

Mogalin: Thanks, glad you liked it.

~LeLa~: Cool. Now all I have to do is wait for some character named Magical-Dagger to show up and yell at me for getting his name wrong 10,000 times.

Fractal_Wave: Sorry, your last report kicked ass. The comment war is really getting violent. So many reports and so few people to read them.

Evil Toaster: Your report was cool. Keep writing, and glad you liked mine.

Well I'm done for now. Please comment. Particularly, did you like the whole Kate & Captain Chobo thing? Cause I'm probably going to expand on that in my next br. Also, are my minimap gifs worth it? They're pretty easy to do and don't affect d/l time that much but they take up a lot of server space. Its no big deal really since I can keep getting more accounts, just curious.

I wake up groggily to sunlight streaming out my hotel window... "What the f*ck?"

I look at my watch. 9am. I look at my plane ticket. 10am. The bastards at the hotel didn't give me my wakeup call! I curse and throw my newly drycleaned suit into my suitcase, gather all my clothes on the floor, throw them in as well, and run out of the room.

"I HAD A WAKE UP CALL AT 7:45 DAMMIT! I'M GOING TO MISS MY PLANE!!", I scream at the receptionist. She looks at me with cow eyes and goes "Uhhh. Oh. You did? Um.. let me check with the -". Her sentence is interrupted as I slam the hotel door and run down the stairs dragging my luggage.

I sprint to Amsterdam's grand central station. The smell of weed surrounds me as I buy my ticket for the airport. Next train leaves at 9:25. 15 minute trip to the airport. No way in hell I'm going to make my flight. I grab my pockets and check for anything that might be illegal to bring on an international flight. Nope, nope, nope.. YES. That will _not_ be welcome on the plane. Throw it in the garbage can.

The train arrives. I'm looking at every second on my watch. Is there any chance I might make it? Probably not. The train arrives to Schipol airport. I sprint down the corridor, luggage in tow. Where is that damn british airways counter?? There it is. Out of breath, I push my way to the front of the line with an "excuse me, I have an emergency". Slam my ticket and passport on the counter. It's 9:45 and my flight leaves in fifteen minutes. The woman at the counter is typically Dutch. Cute and friendly, and speaks better English than Americans do. "Let me call the gate and see if we can hold the gate for you sir". She calls. I can already tell by the look on her face that it's not going to happen. "I'm sorry sir, but we can't put you on this plane".

I explain the situation. I've got a 1:00pm flight leaving from London to Tokyo. I've _got_ to be in London in time to make that flight. She tells me they've got a flight that arrives at 12:00 noon in London. My luggage won't make the connection but if I hurry I will. Would I like to board that one? I sure do. I smile at her and make my way to the waiting area.

I'm in the waiting area, and we're supposed to have boarded. Why aren't we boarding? I check my watch. We're 10 minutes late. This is not good. I pace nervously and finally boarding is called. We take off nach London, 15 minutes late. That means I have 45 minutes to change terminals, run to the gate, and check in. I _should_ be able to just make it. We land and my heart is beating fast. But what's this?? Why are we sitting there on the runway? Panicked, I ask the flight attendant politely what the f*ck is going on. There's a jumbo jet that's in our space. We have to wait for it to leave. Seething, I stare out the window at at my watch. It's 12:25 and my flight to Tokyo leaves at 1:00. We finally dock and I sprint out the plane. It's 12:35. I run like forrest gump to the bus terminal. No bus!! ARGGG!!! A few minutes later, a bus arrives to take me to terminal 3. It sits there waiting while the fat slob of a bus driver reads his newspaper. As politely as possible, I ask him if we could _please_ get the hell going? He says we'll leave soon. 12:45 and the bus starts going. I don't know whether to leave a sliver of hope left or not. Mentally, I'm telling myself this is about an 8 on the suckiness scale. I mean, I could be stranded without money or passport deep in Red China, right? I could be playing Terran vs Toss on Dire, right? How bad is missing a non refundable, non returnable interational flight when you don't have a hotel and barely any money? About an 8, I tell myself.

The fat slob finally makes it to the terminal. I jump off the bus and sprint yet again down the interminable hallway to the ticketing gate. Finally I see the gates. 12:50. I turn my head... where's the #%@! Virgin Atlantic desk? Ah, there it is. I run up to the woman there, red-faced and out of breath. "IknowitstoolatebutIdonthaveanyluggagecanIgetontheplanePLEASEIreallyneedto". She shakes her head. Absolutely no way. Why am I so late? I explain to her that those rat-bastards from hell, British Airways, were 30 mins late on their flight. She looks sympathetic. "They should book you on their next flight", she says. I nod my head in a big YES. YesYesYes. I put on my best innocent face "Could you help me in talking with them? I'm not very experienced in this kind of thing". She agrees, and walks with me to the rat-bastards desk. She explains the situation. The BA guy looks at me. "Ahem. I'm so sawhry sah, but your tickets were bought seperately. I'm afraid there's nothing we cahn do". Grrr.. YOUR flight was late! "But can I trade my ticket in?", I ask. "Ahem I'm afraid not sah. You see, this ticket was bought...", he pauses, and sneers at my ticket, "a... discount rate, sah. I'm afraid we can't trade that in". You @#!@#%. "Isn't there anthing you can do?", I plead. "I'm afraid you're on your own, sah", he smirks.

I want to punch him in the face. I go back to the nice VA woman. She tells me she can put me on the next available flight back to Tokyo. Unfortunatly, the next available flight is on the 5th of April. 5th of April???? Today is the 30th of March!!! I feel a deep sinking sensation in my stomach. The kind of sensation you feel when you hear the whine of interceptors and your starport is under construction.

"Don't you have anything sooner?", I plead. "We have one flight a day, but they are all overbooked. We can put you on standby but your chances aren't good", she replies.

I'm lost. I'm toast. I'm stuck in London. What can I do? Head out to the London office of course. I pack my luggage up and head out to central London. Pip-pip cheerio and all that rot. I show up at about 3:00 at the office. "Hey, aren't you supposed to be in Tokyo?", they ask. I was supposed to. I explain the situation. What should I do? They tell me I should ask the Tokyo office. Of course it's midnight in Tokyo so I can't call them. One of the guys says I can crash at his flat. I send out an email to Tokyo and head out to his place. I sleep there, and wake up at 5am to call Tokyo. "Did you get my email", I ask. "Yes, but the London office should buy the ticket. The only ticket we can get from here would cost 700 pounds (1400 dollars)". What is this, the keystone cops? Everybody is telling me I should call someone else. Go back to the London office. Tokyo says you should buy the ticket. "Um, ok".

The only ticket they can find is for the next day, and it's more expensive than the one Tokyo had found. Of course now its too late to get the ticket Tokyo had found on the same day. I get to spend another night here. But at least I get a hotel this time.

So today sucked. And yesterday REALLY sucked. I was going to spend the weekend watching the cherry trees in bloom with my girlfriend in Tokyo. But I'm stuck here working at the office in London because I have nothing else to do. I'm in a foul mood. I want to kill those bastards at the hotel. I want to kill that Jeeves prick from the British Airways counter.

I go and check out eq.castersrealm.com. Doesn't look like Warriors are getting anything. The Paladins have the fiery avenger, great clerical spells, and they're whining. Warriors are just plodding along still there to die while the casters gate out. Nothing's changed in EQ. I check out battlereports.com. I read this report. A smile spreads on my face. Another Black Stripe^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^HWilliamWc3 report. That's cool. I had fun. I feel better. I'm not pissed anymore. I think I'm going to go read the "Pylons in everyone else's base" reports. Then maybe I'll read those BGH weekly ones. Medic walls. Drone drops. Cannons all over the map. Therapy.

Thanks for brightening up my shitty weekend! Now please go and write up some BGH lesson reports!

The animated gifs were excellent..."Did You Hear Something?" was the nicest, smoothest one I've EVER seen..

The only problem with a mini-map gif @ the end of such a long is that by the time you get to it, you've forgotten what happend...

ok...

god was a creation by ignorant fools who needed some comfort in their pathetic, dreary lives. they were also scared of death, and needed some reassurance of where they were going after death. death is a pretty scary thought, you know.

also, many troubled people turn to god because they are desperate and have no where else to turn. thus they become irrational and begin, out of mainly fear, that some mystical being, if they behave and obey him properly, will offer them some solace.

and many people are christians just because their parents were. they never look into what they are believing - they just believe and accept it like mindless fools.

is that enough to spur a religious debate?

|]agomar: Note that God doesn't exist in everyone's psyche - only most people's. And that alone isn't evidence that he exists. Many superstitions have been unquestioningly believed, but vampires, witches and werewolves never existed. There is a human disposition towards superstition, including God.

I can't see all of the graphic either. The picture takes up several screens downwards, but most of that's white. Looks good though.

Wow. I've never seen a battle report quite like that one! That's just nuts =)! How long did it take you to make it??

Spine: Interesting argument, but if God were only a creation of ignorant fools, why do so many people still believe in a god? And I am certainly not living a particularly dreary and pathetic life (although med school does seem like it sometimes), thus that is not the basis of my belief. And Christianity is not something that speaks about death, it speaks about life - i.e. learn to love God with all your heart, mind and soul (Dt 6:4). It talks about learning to live a life that honors Him.

And Christianity is extremely practical, you've hit on the very heart of it. It is attempting to address the very issues we deal with every day. The Ten Commandments are in fact a list of things you should not do, during a time when life is brutish and short. The Beatitudes are in fact case studies of how we should be living our lives and treating each other with respect and dignity and love, in a time when women were extremely helpless without husbands (not to be sexist - that was the existing societal structure) and the widowed and orphans were cast aside. Those were in fact the very people that Jesus choses to show mercy and ask us to care for.

I agree that there are people who believe in God because their parents do...but we all do this to some extent. Whether you put the toilet seat down or not is probably, at least in good part, parental training (or lack thereof). Pick something else of toilet seats don't float your boat =). That does not in and of itself make you/me/ anyone else an ignorant fool. We are, in many ways, a product of our upbringing. My parents, however, are not Christian.

Superstition is not equivalent to religion, I don't think. It is one thing to think that some ghost is going to get you, and another to think that someone created you and gave you purpose IMO.

oh, and although it does not really speak about death, the main basis and goal for life IS death, aka heaven/hell. life is an obstacle that is only causing you to go to heaven or hell .. a test per say

you know what, im just completely sick of arguing with idiots. WHY DO WE HAVE TO HAVE A PURPOSE??? why cant we just be like every single other creature on this patheic planet and have hot lusty sex?? not even that, they just do it to procreate. it's the truth. we evolved from other creatures. what is their "purpose"? none really, except from procreating. we simply have minds complex enough to completely and absolutely over-analyze EVERYTHING to death, until people are so dumbfounded by it that they need quick solutions.

look, whatever dude. you go to church every week and hope that god likes you, generally waste your time worrying about what will happen after you die, when in actuality you should be worrying about the only 80 years in eternity that you will ever get to experience. have fun.

peace

Heh, who woulda thunk Will's report on Winter Storm would have created a very different "Storm" in his comments section.

For my own sake, I will choose to not enter into this debate!

Great fricking report though!

I won't post about belief after this, it really takes away from this incredible BR....

I would have to say that to claim thousands upon thousands of people who believed in God throughout history, from Thomas Aquinas to Einstein, as ignorant and foolish is...quite ignorant and foolish. My argument was not "because people have believed in God that He must therefore be true and we all should believe". My argument is that since it is unlikely that all those people believed in God because they were ignorant, it is likely that belief is not founded upon ignorance and fear. It is really a product of arrogance to declare all those people as ignorant and foolish. Of course, if you are willing to declare that you know more than them, you are more than welcome to. That's your decision.

Peonsanders: There have been many brilliant people who also did *not* believe in God, which is why I do not claim "popularity" equivalent to "truth". That was not my argument in the first place (read above). Please take some time to really understand my arguments if you are trying to deconstruct them.

As for purpose...I'm not so sure why having a purpose bothers you so much.... But if I believe in God, I ultimately come to the conclusion that I have a purpose. We've created a tackhammer for example - it has an explicit purpose and use. Putting in tacks. There are wrong uses for tackhammers (bashing people). A limited comparison but it'll do. I believe God created mankind - it does not necessarily extend that He has an equivalent sense of purpose for us, but I believe it does. I'm not asking you to, nor can you, to some extent, if you don't believe in God. Ultimately, each man takes his own path, and is ultimately responsible for the path he takes (to himself if no one else).

And evolution could very well have been God's method of creating us (purpose for animals, if you want)- I don't know. There are several problems with evolution (and creationism) which cannot be resolved from where we stand, at least not easily. But perhaps we should not try to seek "quick solutions" by declaring life has no purpose whatsoever. Note: it is just as much a belief system to deny any purpose to life as it is to say life is to be lived for God.

Anyway, that's enough, this isn't the place or the time I suppose. If anyone wants to continue this, post something and then I'll post a more appropriate place/contact to hold this kind of discussion. I'm going to read this BR again =).

Paradigm: I deny that a religious debate takes away from this fantastic br. The more comments the better, as Wallabystein has found with 119 comments in the last five days in his recent br.

Your choice of Albert Einstein as a Christian, or a least a theist, is a very unfortunate choice. His religious view has often been misinterpreted, as he says himself:
"It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions...I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it."

He also calls belief in some Christian ideas - that God judges men, and that the soul is immortal and survives death - not quite ignorant and foolish, but close:
"I cannot conceive of a God who rewards and punishes his creatures, or has a will of the kind that we experience in ourselves. Neither can I nor would I want to conceive of an individual that survives his physical death; let feeble souls, from fear or absurd egoism, cherish such thoughts."

No-one disputes that God, if he exists, has a purpose for mankind. Spine's point was that he doesn't because he doesn't exist, and each individual must define his/her purpose for him/herself. If this results in hot lusty sex, so be it.

PeonSanders, despite possible misinterpretation, makes a good case: even intelligent people make mistakes and can be led astray, particularly by fear. We are all afraid, and when scared, can by more easily led by irrational arguments. So Christianity throughout the ages has targeted scapegoats with which to scare the people: women, Jews, witches, homosexuals, and recently, atheists:
“No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. This is one nation under God.” – President George Bush
“Radicals and atheists are destroying families.” – Hillary Rodham-Clinton

As you said, atheism is a real belief system, which I think is definitely as valid as any other religion. These two statements are alarming examples of real discrimination towards those of a that religious view. The effect of the statements is to intimidate people away from atheism, and to alienate atheists and inhibit their taking part in public debate. That the leaders of the most influential country on Earth would publicly humiliate and attack atheists in this way is utterly reprehensible, although, as the Roman senator Seneca of the first century AD has observed, they no doubt find it politically useful in a church-going state:
"Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful."

To reply to your earlier comment on the practicality of Christianity by providing a moral code, I will quote Einstein yet again:
"If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed."

A problem with the Bible as a moral code is that it includes more than just the Ten Commandments:
Lev. 20:13: If a man lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have com-mitted an abomination: they shall surely be put to death.
The blind following of this verse without morality resulted in butchery of gay people everywhere.
Ex. 22:20: He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the Lord only, he shall be utterly destroyed.
This verse supports the killing of those of other religions in the name of God; it justified the Crusades.
Ex. 22:18: Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
This resulted in the execution and torture of an estimated two million people between 1400 and 1700.

As you can see, the Ten Commandments were not always so fashionable as they are today. Though the above quotes contradict the Sixth Commandment (thou shalt not kill), before the nineteenth century, it seems, they were simply more popular, and people chose to believe the Exodus guy over Moses.

I think it is best to define morality for yourself (most Christians already do this - they don't kill homosexuals, so they are already choosing what to believe and what not to believe). Einstein thought so too:
"A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties and needs; no religious basis is necessary."

I think you will find that Christianity talks a lot more about death than life - usually in the context of punishment, passage to hell, or a bribe to heaven.

Finally, if we are God's tools, let's hope we are the hammers, not the nails...

P.S. I would love for you to post a forum where this can be discussed in more detail.
