I cannot say how much I loved the demo of this game!
Right when the dropship set down, the dust flew up in thick clouds, and it reminded me of Terra Nova. Which was a very good thing. (By the way, I have one bad-ass comp for this kind of game...
My system is an AMD Athlon 500 from NCIX.com with all the latest goodies:
Creative labs SoundBlaster Live
Optiquest 19' monitor
32 meg TNT2 Pro - AGP-V3800 Pro to be exact
128 mb PC133 ram
Logitec mouse two button/scroll wheel
Other assorted goodies
And one more thing, if you have a 1ghz comp...I hate you. =] )
The reason I love the demo is because the battles are amazing realistic. You can zoom in/zoom out, look at the battle from any angle while giving commands with the mouse.
The armor on the heavier tanks also rocks, because armor is thicker on the front/sides compared to the back. Thus, flanking your enemy in this RTS is way more important compared to SC.
By the way Fractal, jolly good report. I feel that captured a fairly good feel of the game...but you have the full version? Whoa. I didn't know it had gone Gold!

Hey, Sonny, bump the athlon up a notch to 750 and add in a GeForce and you got my pc ;) And the GC demo rocked, I WANT THE FULL VERSION! NOW! Looks like next month's paycheck is going to Diablo2 and GC, damn, there goes my social life... Again.
Great report Fractal, you're right, the graphics in GC are amazing... For all those people out there that haven't seen it: Think Homeworld on the ground with a better interface and kinky special abilities.

Heh. This report ruled, the game ruled.
I played this game for the first time at a self setup LAN with my friends, me and another friend stayed up the whole night playing this game (and the demo at that!)
The artillery just rocks. I loved when it explodes and obliterates a whole bunch of infantry and then the lens flare sweeps across the screen and ooooooh. I am such a sadist. |

To all you not-yet-owners out there: WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? If you are reading this then you like RTS. And Fractal gave you a good idea (applause!) of what GC is like. Fun, fast-moving action paired with splendid units, grafics and good controlability. This game has all the right bits in all the right places! No worrying about a bloody base and weak units. Saddle up, place your units, try out all the tactics you ever wanted to use in SC or AOE or similar but didn´t get to because you spent half the game (or more) controlling the base rather than the much-more-fun part, i.e. the troops. Definitely the best RTS I´ve played. I didn´t start with the AT or what you grandpa´s out there did, but with Dune 2. That´s a fairly good ammount of games :)

Great Report!
I had never heard of this game before, but this battle report was absolutely brilliant good text, and you detailed the battle in minute detail, which is always important. I like the fact that you have limited troops in this game- it's more like real warfare and means more strategical thinking... and BRITISH voices! I must get this game on the strength of that alone (It may seem odd, but I, a Briton who is proud of his country (Well, until Tony Blair came along anyway... Whay don't you expel him Your Majesty?), am sad to see that the games industry is increasingly become Americanised, just like the film industry (UNIVERSAL, I WILL HUNT THE PRODUCERS OF U-571 TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH! WE CAPTURED THE ENIGMA CODE MACHINE! STOP CHANGING HISTORY!)!
Anyway, it's also a plus sign to hear something from the British side of things (even if it is only a colony, and not the real deal)
Enough banter, I'll give this an 8.3!
