| Monty claimed a great victory? Let me tell you something- Monty, with a 2 fold superiority in men, tanks and aircraft and a tenfold advantage in fuel supplies over Rommel, lost 4 times the number of tanks Germany did. The entire British 8th army was engaged against a single corps! Of course they won! Can you recall any time in WW2 when the British won a battle against Germany without a good numerical superiority? |

And technically the allies did defeat the Germans in the Battle of Normandy while being outnumbered, however they did have superiority of the skies, and fuel. Once again however, at the end of the Battle of Normandy it was basically 1 army vs 2, In the battle of Falaise, where the allies technically won the battle of Normandy, they had 34 divisions, matched against 56 german divisions. Nevertheless they managed to surround the germans, since they would not retreat due to Hitler's stupid orders, and force the german 7th Army and the 15th Panzer Army to surrender. The very same Montgomery, whom you so criticised, personally orchestrated the strategy that took full advantage of his mobility and completely paralysed the Germans, *despite being outnumbered!*

In the Battle of Britain, Germany only posessed a slight numerical superiority over the British in fighters, as more than half of their aircraft consisted of medium bombers.
In Normandy, the main forces of Army Grp B were stationed at Calais. Hitler refused to allow the armored reserves to smash the normandy beachheads, due to his belief the real invasion would be at Calais.
The allies posessed air supremecy, so that German reserves could not be built up faster than the rate at which the Anglo/American forces could land, therfore, although in the first weeks, the total German forces in the west outnumbered the allied forces, only a percentage were commited to battle. By autumn, the western Allies had 81 divisions in France to 45 German, posessing a huge armor and air superiority. The main reason the Germans were unable to combat the west, was because of the greater danger in the east, where the reserves were desperatly needed after the Soviet summer offensive which resulted in the destruction of Army grp Center.
As for that we'd all be "ziek hailing", Germany's goal, as stated in numerous sources, was to acquire living space in the east, which would sustain the German nation. Germany had no intention of going to war with Britain or France. These nations went to war with Germany because of the German invasion of Poland, to restore the territory lost by Germany in the versailles treaty.
On the western front, the allied forces suffered approx. 500 000 KIA compared to 200 000 German KIAs.
The west had a superiority always, from Sept.3 1939-June 27 1940, and from June 6 1944-May 8 1945 in men, artillery and armor, and from 1944-1945, superior in aircraft. |
