Ah, yes, as poster I get to post the first comment. Muahahaha.
Pictures in the report suffered a little from conversion to .jpg's (they were created by the game as .gif's) and my computer is far from the best, these days, so the shots aren't as good as the actual game. Sorry about that.
Oh, yes, and perhaps in my next report I will try to crop my images. But I doubt it, as I want to show the whole cockpit of the mech. |

Are flamer mechs still viable? In MechWarrior 3, we would use light wieght mechs, load them with frontal armour, jumpjets, best engines, and then just stake TONS of flamethrowers w/heatsinks.
All you do is rush forward, dodging wildly, taking the occasional jump. Get in close, and preferably behind. Fire. Instant overheating. Let the snipers, preferably a friend with a few Gauss strapped onto a slow mech, pick him off. Meanwhile you keep moving, because if you stop, one hit, poof.
It was a fun and intresting way to play. |

I dunno. From what I played of MW3, it seemed to have better interface and better balance. But what do I know, I didn't play it much. Nonetheless, I do feel competent enough to rate this. Minus a bit for making me scroll a tiny bit in places, plus some for originality.

Good old MW3, it was so much fun. Small mechs dont always loose to big ones thou, if you do it right, meaning getting really near really quick and then circle around to get into the back of the big guy...its not easy, but it works.
And yea, flamer mechs were fun, MG (you know those tiny 0.3 ton wepons) mechs even more so because you delivered the kill yourself.
Does MW4 still have the gay anti missile system? That thing made SRMs next to useless... |
| #12 Kylaer[80896] |
| user-2ivei93.dialup.mindspring.com |
Wow I never expected this much response on my first report.
Let's see...to answer some questions...
Flamer mechs aren't as viable I would think, because flamers take up 2 beam weapon slots, and a very fast mech like you would need would only have room for 2 or 3, which couldn't do enough over-heating damage. I'm not sure though, I haven't tried it.
|]agomar, the low-quality graphics in my report are the fault of my computer, not the game. I have to run it at the lowest graphical setting; I gotta get a new computer heh heh heh.
Anti-missiles...umm...I don't know, I don't think I've used a mech with anti-missiles.
Oh, yes, thank you everyone for the high ratings *grin* |

Bah! Thats what made small mechs so cool. Specialization. Loading them with 0.3 or 0.2 tons weapons like flamers or machine guns, or just stacking LRMs and ammo and sniping.
If they have taken away specialization, all we are going to see is 70 to 90 ton mechs. How boring! |

One more thing, I read online that certain weapon/ mech combinations can knocks whole mechs over. I know in MW2 it was as simple a circling the opponent and blasting off a leg, but in this one it's much harder.
I've read that the Daishi with three CLBX-20 shotguns can knock anything smaller than a Shadow Cat over. Have you tested that setup, by chance? |

I have mw4, and its so fucking fun, i still keep trying to play it, even tho it crashes to my desktop randomly every 15 minutes =(
And yeah.. the specialization sux, now each mech can have like 2-3 beam weapons..2-3 ballistic..2-3 missles.. it gets old =(
And someone help my problem!! why does it keep crashing!!?? my comp can run it just fine, (700 mhz 128 ram), so why does it keep crashing? im gonna go look for patches.. maybe that willl help.. |

Second round of comments...
My computer is something like a 500-megahertz Pentium III, with 56(?) megs of ram, and I don't think it has a 3D card so I'm having to run the game in software mode. I experience good performance and rarely multiplayer lag, but the graphics quality suffers.
Lightest weapon in the game is the flamethrower, at 0.5 tons, but it takes 2 slots. A lot of weapons only take 1 slot, but almost everything weighs at least a ton (including machine guns, oddly).
It does seem that lots of people do take the "heaviest mech possible" route; I've seen more Daishis than anything else, I think.
Knockdowns do happen, I've seen them most often from missile volleys.
Don't know what's wrong with the crashing problem, sorry, I'm an end-user, not a programmer or tech.

Can you be those little one-man suits in this one??
We used to play 1 mech vs 7 battlesuits. Made for fun games =)

GOSU!
I also prefer to pilot a mauler in most team and FFA games (I use a beacon shadowcat sometimes to help my snipers get better missile locks, to steal the flag, etc)
On my mauler I got sick and tired of that damned random damage from missiles, so I scrapped them, and got I decided against extended range or pulse lasers. Instead I raised my speed, and attacked a large laser and two mediums so that all my weapons would be close range and I could close faster. I also beefed up armor on the usual sniper target spots (aka the legs, and around my twin LBX's)
I've never seen a head shot on a mauler so I didn't bother to beef that armor up ^o^
Twin LBX = big mech killer, you can strip a leg off a Daishi in two alpha hits ^o^ from behind. muahahaha and my mech is decently.... (not really) speedy :o)
GJ! You just hit print screen to do the pics? hmmmmmm! project for after midterms! |

Kickass report, I usually get bored after first few sentences but this one kept me till the end. Maybe it was all the pretty pictures. It'd be cool if you could set up some kind of collage thing. Dunno how you'd do it with mechwarrior, but it seems to get ppl good ratings in sc. Since mw4 is a new game, there's lots of room for innovation in mw4 battlereports. If you're the guy that does the innovating you'll prolly get a kickass rating.
BUU: If you're desperate, try turning down the hardware acceleration on your card if it has that feature. It should be in control panel / display properties / settings tab / advanced / performance tab
If that didn't make any sense too bad, cuz im probably not gonna read this comments section again. |

| Excellent writing style and presentation, but content was lacking. What I mean by this is that it was very short, it had no direction, and no resolution. Who won? Was this a team death match? I realize you were disconnected, so maybe this wasn't the best game to BR on. |

I don't know MW4 and plyed MW3 only a little, but I wonder if a very small and fast mech with a single ER-Heavy Laser (was the longest range weapon in MW3) can kill any mech that doesn't have a Heavy ER Laser. Just because it can hit and run.
For the pics, I'm not sure, but what keeps you from using the gifs directly?
If anybody is searching for Mechwarrior books, the series is called "BattleTech". I've read some, and they are very good "I read them in german, so the English originals must be even better)
Anyway, good report, keep on the good work, maybe I'll buy the game.
CornedBee
P.S. A "natural" is the nearest expansion spot to your base. On lost temple, this is the spot just below the ramp leading to your base. |

I haven't played MW3 or 4 yet but I am a MW2 vet.
I hope they have some Ultra AC-20's in this game cause they're my favorite weapon. Advice? Go for legs with Ultra AC-20's or LBX-20's and armor up your legs. You have no idea how hard it is to walk with no legs. Always have heat sinks especially with UA-20's, but thats a kind of given fact that you need those. Finally, if you want to dodge pretty good, get some jumpjets and straffe left and right. It helps. Trust me on that one.I hope to see more of any kind of MW game. |

Mech4 is damn fun.
I'd approve of your mech selection, myself. The Clan LBX-20 is probably the most "fulfilling" weapon I've ever fired in a MechWarrior game. The SOUND it makes at point blank range is a savory one. If I had one of those force-feedback joysticks I think it would throw me out of my chair. As far as knocking things over, that depends on a few things. If your aim is good, you can knock over plenty of things. I've put Uziels (50 tons, by no means a lightweight) on their backs with a pair of LBX's. Of course, they can struggle back to their feet, but not before you've got another round in the chamber. Then you blow their cockpit straight out their back. Mech4 is damn fun.
For a first report, pretty nice. I like reading reports on games other than Brood War, so keep it up.

well sounds like some people want some help ... :)
okey UAC20 is not in vengence , but in Black knight (ep).
secund , a DASHI with all LBX 20 can knock a dashi over.
I keep getting red X's :(
also JJ are no good |
