Dear Timmy,

I suggest that you look for an alternative explanation for starcraft that will not alienate those who don’t believe in the Toarahcraft. Scientific Blizzardism is a new paradigm, based on recent advances in programming technology. Until recently, scientist and adolescents were unable to "peek behind the curtain" as it were to see the actual code that causes the phenomenon we experience as starcraft. However, with modern programming techniques, are unlocking the secrets of starcraft by producing "hacks", synthetic additions to starcraft. In looking at the actual code for starcraft, one sees patterns of such intricacy that they couldn't have formed on their own, through any amount of trial and error. Even though programmers claim that their "hacks" constitute the same time of random chance that Pathcololutionists suggest, in fact, there is no way that the code for, say "Pong" could by a series of minute coding changes be turned into starcraft.

a 10???

It's not a report, as an amusing peice of writing then yes it's very well written with HTML and so on, but it's still not up to the sort of time and effort people like YRM and Casper and whoever made that otheer 10 report the other day put in.

I think that it shouldn't be rated as it's not comparrable to any other report written, thus it's not applicable to the rating system.

Nice dref...

Favorite part:
Take, for example, the fact that the theory of Patcholutionism directly conflicts with the 2nd law of thermodynamics. This law states that any closed system will deteriorate and decay over time. This is a scientific law. How then is it logical for a Patcholutionist to claim that, instead of decaying, the game of Starcraft has improved greatly since the Alpha era?

Response: From the patcholutionist's point of view, it's not a closed system, as many patches were added to the system as time goes on. Thus one does not have a fully closed system, so it is allows to improve without violation the 2nd law.

Creationism is not dead. As dref said, god made it 19:97, which is 7:97. And yes, it's 7:97. If god wants to make it 7:97, then he damn well can.
Patcholution can not possibly be real. If StarCraft has it's own mind, it's own intellegence, then someone would have to GIVE it that ability to think independantly.
These "patches" are simple hoxes. I too downloaded the 1.08 "Patch". It worked in single player, but multi-player would not accept it. That is why "patches" are another one of satan's hellspawn. He wants you to have no communication with the outside worlds, thus plunging your life into darkness.
So you see, creationism is very plausible.
#47 Patton1944[95694]
spider-tf032.proxy.aol.com
Another thing...the word "Protoss" comes from the latin word "Prottos", which means first created. That is why the protoss are the strongest of races. God created them first, and they have the power of intellegence. This is why some "Programmer" could not make the protoss. The protoss are the result of a higher intellegence. I think this shoots down whatever arguments the "Patcholutionists" had lofting around.

Actually, exception, the sarcasm IS there, it's just... hiding. "Blind" can mean a lot, depending on what side he's on.
If he's Creationist-Everyone who doesn't believe the same way is just too blind to see the truth.

Patholutionist-All the creationists are too blind to see the fact that Starcraft has been around forever, and has just built upon itself over time through the work of the agents of whatever higher power convinced them to make this great game.

haha Markster, I went to a Christian high school and I still remember the "20 arguments that disprove evolution" handout that my teacher gave me.

The ones that really stuck out in my mind were the 2nd law of thermodynamics, the population of the world should be in the quadrillions, the sun should have swallowed up the earth because it is expanding, and the moon should be two miles deep in dust.

I look back on that and I find it hard to believe how naieve I was and also how ridiculous it was for a high school to be teaching that kind of garbage as truth and then have the gall to complain about teaching evolution in public schools... :(

It's funny, Drefsab, but I'm sure you realize that I will now have to comment on your analogy... :b

The parallelism breaks down when "Tim" calls the patches "random mutations." The most basic (and strongest) Creationist argument criticizes the random nature of evolution, not the amount of time it needs, and the patches are obviously products of intelligent design, carefully modeled to improve game balance. There's nothing random about them (well, ok... maybe the original larval spawn rate and the 1.05-1.07 D-Web were random aberrations). We can see evidence of similar, and much more complex, design in the real world, and standard theories of evolution that try to explain all this order as the result of chance processes over long oceans of time don't account for this complex harmony. I could easily turn your joke around by writing from the perspective a "Patcholutionist" who thinks it absurd that certain Creationists insist on intelligent design behind the patches.

http://icarus.cc.uic.edu/~vuletic/cefec.html

Some highlights:
* At the present rate of influx of meteoritic dust from space, the earth and moon after 5 billion years should each be covered with a meteoritic dust layer more than 180 feet thick.

* The rate of decay in the geomagnetic field sets an outside limit of 10,000 years for the age of the earth.

* Niagara Falls is moving upstream at a known rate each year. Its current location allows only about 5,000 years since the time it started eroding.

* There are many unanswered questions in science, such as the details of the origin of the universe and of prebiotic synthesis. Thus we require a supernatural God for explanation.

* Evolution and creationism are the only two possible models of origins. There are many serious problems with evolution, so creationism is the correct model by default.

They make some good points (1 or 2) but there is just too much crap like this mixed in.

Well, I'm gonna be graduating from a Christian high school this year. I, too, have received the absolute bullshit reasons why "God Must Exist." I think it's funny that Physics can (and has) disproven these reasons. The only real thing left that Christians can hang on to is the fact that the origin of the universe cannot be proven, although all intelligent thought deducts that the universe began many trillions of years ago in what is now referred to as "The Big Bang." I am just happy that I will soon be studying the Big Bang and it's various components in university in less than 6-7 months.

To provide an interesting twist.....

I've decided that most Preachers and most Science teachers are all idots. Evolution doesn't exist? Preposterous. But the question of that first organism is totally wide open. Intelligent design then? Whatever.

What is IMPORTANT?

George Fox once remarked that the Truth is more important than the Book. I think that so long as someone realy searches for truth with an open mind, God will help them find it.

The rest of the parody was cleverly ambiguous. Christians may be the loudest proponants of creationism, but all the relevent texts are OT and not exclusively Christian. The last line made what had been open unneccessarily pointed at a single group (IMO).

#81 BADKITTY![95965]

I dont think physics CAN disprove god.

IMHO Anyone who believes in evolution (solely) is a moron, and anyone who believes in a specific god (solely) is a moron.

The big bang _THEORY_ (not proven) explains, somewhat, the makeup of the universe as it exists. It doesn't fail to explain the creation of the universe because it is not an attempt to explain it. The theory says that what was wonce small is now bigger... where the small thing came from is not something anyone's trying to explain. Just as where god came from is not something that can be explained.

Neither theory can fully explain the universe, and where it came from.

If someone ever tells you where everything came from, answer "yes, but where did THAT come from?"

As far as the report, it's really funny, but it's something i'd expect in a FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD email, not on br.com :)

Wow, I was going to reply to one of the "evolution is wrong" Creationist posts here, but I'd rather cover one that makes several "pop science" mistakes. BTW, I liked the original article, a pretty good parody, but as one person pointed out, actually had the flaw that the game really is designed. The general flow of it works, however, if one only takes it as a joke

"I dont think physics CAN disprove god."

Ok, I'll cut some slack here, as I'd definitely agree that can't. "God" is usually defined in such a way that it can't be disproven.

"IMHO Anyone who believes in evolution (solely) is a moron,"

Wow, the gall to call the majority of top biologists "morons."

"and anyone who believes in a specific god (solely) is a moron."

Even here, I won't go so far as to call them a moron, they could just be extremely ignorant (eg, a tribesman living in Africa who has never even heard of evolution).

Ah, just after calling people who I'm guessing a smarter than you, "morons," you make a 5th grade science mistake. Notice how he stresses the word "theory," and then makes the comment that this equates to "not proven." Obviously he does not know the difference between a theory as we use the term in daily language and scientific theory.

"...somewhat, the makeup of the universe as it exists. It doesn't fail to explain the creation of the universe because it is not an attempt to explain it. The theory says that what was wonce small is now bigger... where the small thing came from is not something anyone's trying to explain."

Not really going to attack this, but the BBT DOES address the start of the Universe. Calling it the "creation" of the Universe is a bit misleading, and the BBT does not.

"Just as where god came from is not something that can be explained.

Neither theory can fully explain the universe, and where it came from."

Another example of this person not knowing what a "theory" is. Since he is comparing them on equal ground. either he is calling the BBT a non-scientific theory, which it obviously is not, or he's calling "God made it" a scientific theory. However, there is NO such theory. No one has ever proposed one, and no one probably ever will. Also, the BBT makes no attempt at "fully [explaining] the Universe."

I hope at least one person will learn what the word "theory" means after reading my post :)

Thanks for being both perfectly insulting and sacriligious.

Although this was friggin' funny, it was a little too extreme against Christianity, a faith of which I'm a member.

BTW Blind Faith . . . is there any faith but blind faith? A gay atheist term.

Oh and I do believe in evolution . . . just that God started the whole thing.

Basically #81's both are wrong issue is telling you this subliminal message: "Become a nihilist!"
Argh, good thing my subliminal message dampener is on, or else I'd go spouting off on how evryone is wrong, even me....

Another thing, why is it that if you don't believe in God you are auto-atheist? If every religion had a "other side" label, taht would be rediculous. Pagans don't go around saying "I'm a Atheist-Pagan and my friend here is Christian-Mucreist (my new word for not-pagan). In conclusion I must say: Humans are foolish, don't believe them at all. You can't be sure of anything, not even of yourself.

Oogie if you ever read this post let me tell you something. Scientific Theory, as great of a thing that it may be, is not the end all. Spontaneous generation was once a scientific theory, and yet that was disproven. It was also once a theory that atoms were only made up of protons and electrons, and that's kinda out the door now too. The same goes for the Big Bang Theory. It may be the right answer, it may not, but just because the words "scientific" and "theory" are attached to it does not make it "truth."

"Take, for example, the fact that the theory of Patcholutionism directly conflicts with the 2nd law of thermodynamics. This law states that any closed system will deteriorate and decay over time. This is a scientific law. How then is it logical for a Patcholutionist to claim that, instead of decaying, the game of Starcraft has improved greatly since the Alpha era? "

The problem with this argument is that the second law of thermo-dynamics was shown to be innacurate by Ludwig Boltzmann,

Every micro-state is equally probable, just the deterioration macro-state includes many more micro-states!

Two quick things.

No matter how much time you give it.. a scv will never just go over and start building a barracks. Give it a few billion years and WALA!! It will still be in the exact same spot.

Secondly, the big bang theory that some individuals claim so closely too.. just one quick observation. Where did that bang come from? A bunch of gas? Something had to exist before the bang, and what existed before that?

Either you believe in an everlasting "unknown, undefined, unseen" substance or you believe in an everlasting God.

You evolutionists/BBTists have alot more "FAITH" than me ..a lowly christain.

I've thought about both sides of the argument prompted by this.

In the end, tho, dref was just newbiebashing. It isn't exactly hard to mock religion on the Internet :P

So, when are you posting the Torahcraft?
