Well I guess if Im going to do a text only it has to be a big fancy one like this. I hope some people like it anyways.

A few notes: this was played months ago and I had pics for it, but unfortunately I switched computers so their all gone now. Some of those pics were cool.. like 4 bcs blowing up at once to 1 storm or else that huge battle with like 70 gols vs 24 carriers and 2 arbiters and so on.

Also this was pre 1.08.

Yikes.

It was pretty hard to keep up with whom was allied with whom, which I suppose is to be expected in this situation...but I think you could've done more to keep it clear (like maybe use HTML to color-code the temporary alliances, or something...)

Also, I think this would have been better as a series instead of four crazy, confusing games thrust at us all at once. I think four separate BRs (with pictures, doh) leading up to the final survivor would've been cool.

Another thing (and I'm veeery reluctant to say this): I think pictures would have added a LOT to this report :( Yeah I know it was out of your control but I keep imagining screen shots where "Regehr offered to ally with Magyc, but Magyc instead attacked him with his medic and marine army, taking out his natural despite the 1 cannon defense. Obviously this makes Regehr sort of bitter". The game chat would have been great to see. Track down your old computer and get the damn screen shots.

On the plus side, the writing was particularly good (I especially liked the little metaphors, like "Now that the dam is broken...") Your game analysis was pretty interesting as well and it sounded like a lot of fun to watch these games. More or less the writing (and suspense) was what kept me interested despite the confusing games.

So, to sum it up, excellent idea, excellent writing, but not the best execution :O

But that's just my two cents
Spuzz

I liked this a lot. I think someone should even this report to an 8.5. A Java or Flash type of report of this would have owned where a frame showed the battle while a small portion is dedicated to keeping up with the many alliances. Awesome concept.

Actually I plan on getting another going with ss's. I had a big production planned for this one.. flash intro, ss's out the ass, even pictures drawn for me by a friend. Sadly everyone quit the project and it kind of sat on my comp for a few months. Then I lost all the ss's and I decided that I had two choices. I could just release the text for it, or everything (including some sweet ass games) could go to waste. So I just put the text down.

Hopefully I can do with the ss's and replays in the future but I have a lot of stuff on my plate so we'll have to see.

I only got to read the first couple pages because I'm procrastinating on studying for English (the bane of my existance). Spuzz and CB are right, screen shots and/or checkpoints would've made it less confusing. The writing was nice. I really liked the concept of the whole 'survivor' concept, instead of the standard 1vs1, 2vs2 or ffa. Good job.

Addendum:

Oh yeah, think twice about flash. I never even read flash reports because my crappy computer can barely even download them, let alone view them.

well theres no way for me to get flash going now anyways

good report, easy to read and follow, and not too confusing. how where the aliances formed? by quick msg'ing? or did they just decide to ally with people. seems like it would be very micro intensive.

well it was cool, kinda reminded me of a wwf royal rumble, cept with starcraft players..

I can't sit by and read long al text BRs. It would've held my interest longer is it had more of a layout, color, borders, etc.

Well, the concept sounds good from the intro so I'm going to trust in CBs judgement and assume it was good :).

A tremendous whale of a battlereport. The writing flowed exceptionally well and it was gripping. I was glued to it until the bitter end. The Survivor format is a great idea for a battlereport, and expect to see imitations of this. ;)

I know that I'm parroting what everything else is saying, but pics do have their uses. Not necessarily action shots, though. Minimaps of the map before the game starts is a good idea for when you're reporting off temple. Looking up info in StarEdit = bad manner. ^^

Awesome text-only, though. The best I've read in a long time. An honorary (read: opinion that doesn't count) 9 from me. Great job.

Er about the alliances.. people were allowed to do whatever they wanted as I said. They talked and wispered to each other constantly. I just asked that they keep me updated on what they were doing constantly.

Nice idea. Kinda long though for one report, especially with all the crazy stuff that was happening.

A very good concept I once thought of doing, but the people I know probably wouldn't agree to do something this long, even over a period of days or weeks. It could have been made into a really great 4 - part (or whatever) series with pictures. Its too bad you didn't have any (or a replay).

I skimmed parts of it, and it seems decent.

looked good, but no pretty pictures =[
#19 [c]Napoleic[100540]
px2ht.ok.shawcable.net
The reason I didnt do it as a 4 part series is that only the first game was good enough to stand by itself. If I did it by itself I'd have to do the rest by themselves, and lets face it, the last game was way too lame for that.

I'll read it when I get home. I, believe it or not, had the exact same idea. Well, somewhat different, but generally the same. I couldn't get any contenders though, so it never happened. I guess it never will now...

Ok, I'm home and just read it. Wow. It did differ from my idea though. I was going to make it reader's choice. Ie get to a point in game, save game. One person leaves while the other 2 (only 3 players for me) go on to 1v1. Reload game, somebody else leaves. That way, when I put it together, the reader could get rid of the player they didn't like.

When I read your intro, I thought this was what you had done. I might still do mine, seeing as it IS different somewhat, but don't hold me to it.
Good read,

nice. its a refreshing break to see a good all text report like this one. it was a bit scrunched togther and confusing, plus the lack of HTML made a difference too, but overall, not bad one bit. 7.5

I'm reading every single BR I can load. This one seemed very interesting but my good-but-not-enough English prevented me from understanding everything. I barely followed what happened but I wasn't abble to have a global vision of it.
With pics I would could have visualized the action without problem but this all-text BR of a so confusing game was too much for me.

But I read it to the end and think your next BR with pics would be awesome. GW anyway and come back for more.

ah yes, the elusive good all-text. I just read it all, at 8 in the morning, and I followed it quite nicely. the alliences got quite confusing at times, colour coding woulda been nice... but I don't know html or anything, so i shouldn't talk :P

I dunno... I'd give this 8

I love text reports, kudos for it but i woulda preffered some check points, kudos to my friend Magyc, and also i liked the survivor idea, you had very few typos which is an extreme bonus in my opinion. Typos are the bane of text reports. Anyways i give this an 8.5 for all the work, woulda loved some pics but i know that pics are evil things at times and they just seem to get up and walk away.

Wow!!!! Normally I can barely follow BRs, even 1v1s with color coding but somehow your writing style just really clicked with me. This is the best report I have ever read. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and really got into this game! Excellent AAA work! Best I've ever read honestly!!!!

Nicely done. Much better than my text-only BR. Everything was great only the battles could have been a little more in-depth. Probably the best text-only report I've ever read.
