Nice report. You maintain the level of writing that made your previous reports enjoyable. I actually think that the replay you posted detracted from the overall impression of the game since your writing did a much better job of portraying the game as a close engaged battle than the replay did^^

Ok, Ok,
I am not gonna say that Mark4 sucks, actually I've been a fan of him since I first visited br.com. BUUUT making reports now makes him some kind of a copetitor. I believe he got this 8 to easy confering to the standards nowadays. His writing owns, no discussion needed, he is funny but doesnt force any humor. But I believe a text-only shouldnt get an eight nowadays. I know I wont make myself friends with this, but I guess the rating was something like
6.5-7 for the report
+1-1.5 for being Mark4
Now I think Mark himself wants his reports to be rated fair and square, cause he doesnt seem to be the guy who wants to be rated for his reputation alone. Just my humble opinion and flame we if you want, but just realize that I just gave my critisism, without flaming or insulting the raters. And the comments section is made for giving ones own opinion, so any stupid flames are very welcome, for I will just laugh at their stupidity |

| How have you come to the conclusion that text only shouldn't be given 8s? This br was easy to follow, had a replay to aid with it for those who don't like text only, was well written, concise, and enjoyable. Further more it allows the reader to paint a visual image of the battles and events transpiring. This fits the standards of an easy 8. Being Mark4 would not have changed anything, it's not like him having a reputation earns him easy points. The very reason he HAS a reputation is part for his wonderful text-only brs as AQD3, which this br only furthers. |

| Mark's still got the writing and starcraft talent that's for sure. This is the first report I've read in full, for a while. Best thing about Mark4's writing is, he explains in detail what significance every move he and his opponent makes, to the outcome of the game. |

Well, let's see what this report is at its core...
The game itself was far from great. If you watch the replay, you see that Bold really never presented any challege or threat throughout the whole game. Mark just sorta took map and won. That's basically it. Even though the report does a good job of hiding the fact that the game was weak, it does not do so fully (it's pretty hard to make a marvel out of a one-sided game). Yet the report is pleasant to read, has some strat insights, and I simply enjoy Mark4's style of writing. Between that and the ok game, I'd give this a 7. |

Not wanting to gripe or anything Cube, but saying that text-only never deserves an 8 or higher? How can pictures mean so much when there are extreme points in case such as:
The Lord Of The Rings
To Kill A Mockingbird
Anything by Shakespeare
The Kama Sutra
These books (excluding the occasional picture in Kama Sutra) are text-only. They are also considered to be the greatest works around.

Strega: Though I don't necessarily agree with RubiksCube, your argument doesn't really apply..
The works you talk about (minus the last one ;P) are accounts of life, dialogue for plays, or fantasy epics.. In most forms of literature, especially the ones you listed, pictures are generally considered unnecessary and burdensome..
Lord of the Rings : The entire idea of reading a fantasy is to form it in your mind; sinc everyone probably imagines Frodo as a different looking guy, having Tolkien select an image that would forever define the character may take away from the experience from people who dont like how he looks
To Kill a Mockingbird : Same as above, though for this book, the actual story isnt meant to provoke your imagination, it gives insight on the human condition ^^
Shakespeare : He's a playwright, and his works are meant to be acted out, not read..

Mark's writing proves that pictures aren't needed to describe a battle well. I get more interest and SC education from his text only reports than I get from most other reports, no matter how picture-laden they are. |

Two Things
First: Do you mean to say that you don't know what a bunch of dragoons and zealots being rocked by tanks looks like? If pictures mean that much to you, watching the replay without ever reading this should've been enough for you.
Second: I have yet to see anyone write BR's that I like as much as the AQD3 series. Elaborate and fancy pictures may be all that matters to most of you—I don't know—but imo the content is all that matters. And Mark4 writes everything a BR needs: the text flows, and you can tell exactly what's going on just by reading it...but most importantly, he outlines the reasons behind every move made in the game. Telling Why people do something (and what goes through their heads) is *MUCH* better than just saying/showing What they did.
The game could've been better—okay. But you have no ground if you say the report itself was lacking much. |

Text reports should be able to receive any rating, as picture reports can. However, comparing text only reports to great works of literature is incorrect - Battlereports generally are non-fiction, or only partially "fictionalized", and therefore are not comparable with works of fiction.

I've been attending the officer advanced course, the combined arms and services staff school, and explosive ordnance disposal course. All have been treated as gentlemen's courses, which means going home at night and reasonable hours. |

Well, probably my words wasnt chosen as smart as I wanted to. Of course there should be text-onlys with a rating of 8 or higher.
Thing is, Marks excellent writing abilities made the game seem to be more than it was. I like to read/write battlereports, to be informed about good games that I wasnt able to watch. I dont read them to read of a boring/bad game, seeming to be good through the writing. And I really have to say that as I watched the replay I was disappointed.
Mark said that the replay should "flow" with the text in his report and it doesnt, imho. The writing owned, but the replay was just plain boring. |
