2nd. Well, I just finished reading the first volume of The Lord Of The Rings (4th time ^^). As such, this could hardly compare. I would give a crappy rating, yet it would be made in the realm of bias. I may read later, when the eternal words of the greatest TRUE writer who ever lived have left mine ears.

Hmm, I'm bored. =/
Fucking 30MB download for preview of Lord of the Rings. Grr...
Damn my infernal 56k modem!
Damn the fact that this site is essentially dry!
Damn the fact that I'm still typing when I am obviously not contributing anything to the site by sitting on my ass and damning everything!

This was poetically inept. Read "The Dark is Rising" series or the "Dune" series and get over LoT. After the tenth time reading it, it gets sort of monotonous.

Go easy on the abusivly heavy diction, I want to feel like I'm reading something light and enjoyable, not trudging through Faulker. Has definite potential though, assuming you can craft a good plot out of this. Some more "swordfighting strategy" would be nice too.
#14 Litz-C)8[104052]
spider-we072.proxy.aol.com
The main reason for the "Heavy diction" as you call it, was the fact that this was a very action intense, fast-paced, very short period of fictional time being described. The verbage gives a sense of breathlessness and/or imagery which was my main goal with this chapter. The rest of the story however contains mixes in degree as to this, other sword-fights, and there will be, will most likely contain the same futile attempt at competant imagery. But many parts, especially the preceeding chapter, will not be so obscure. As for the strategy, I had dificulty in making it work, However, I have many more sword-fights planned which give me plenty of time to perfect this.
I am working on other BR's as well, Including another episode of the TV show, however material for that is hard to come by, and the second one was even forced a bit. If you dont like fanfics, dont bother replying to any report i post, because at least half of future submissions will be - fanfics!

Due to a 1000 charcter limit, I had to break my response into 2 comments.
RESPONSE PART ONE
I know you're going to want to rip my testicles off for saying this, but... The Lord of the Rings *ahem* sucks *ahem*. I'm sorry, but I just dislike it. The Hobbit I could get through because atleast it was fast paced (although not that great either). But Lord of the Rings... Oh man, 5 pages of small font just to describe a a wheat field can get a little tedious. Since the movie won't be so drawn out, I imagine I'll enjoy that. If you want to read a good fantasy, go out and buy The Voyage of Jerle Shannara: Isle Witch, then get it's part 2: Antrax. Morgawr, the third installment comes out next year. Sorry for sounding like an add. By all means, I love fantasy, I just found Lord of the Rings to be too slow, and lacking charcter development. Fantasy or not, I don't like reading stories which contain people using words such as: Thee, hither, madam, tis, etc. |
#21 Koh[104087]
24.76.216.150
Nevermind, 3 parts.
RESPONSE PART TWO
Personally, I think the reason that Lord of the Rings is so popular is because it's a real pioneer in it's kind. It was really the first fantasy not intended for just children. It's size was also something that made it original. But all in all, I think that there are a lot better fantasies out there.
Oh by the way, about this book (The Teacher), I don't give a shit if you can use big words. I can use big words too, but they can get rathar annoying if used multiple times in a sentance. You have got to learn when it's appropriate to use them, not just shove em' in all over the place cause you want people to think you're intellegent. Half the people reading your story can't understand it, and the other half dislike it cause they have to think when they are reading.

RESPONSE PART THREE
A good book is a page turner, not a bunch of big words.
JRR Tolkien and the writer of this book should really take those words into consideration
-Koh
PS. Yes, I haven't forgot about The Alliance, but I've been doing other things. That isn't to say that I've got nothing done... just not that much.
Interesting Fact: Oh, by the way, in the first sentence, where I said: "I know you're going to want to rip my testicals off for this", I originally made a typo that said: "I know you're going to want to sip my testicals off for this". I thought it was funny.... That's all.

Uhmm, for people who didnt understand (CKane) this was titled chapter 1, because it is only the first part. Too short, maybe for a novel, this isn't exactly a novel though, stupid plot, hmm considering how short it was, I hinted at a LOT of plot that i have intended ahead, this however, is an introduction.
Koh, I can respect you're opinion on Tolkien, at least it is well thought out, I just dont agree with it. As for your comment on big words, yes, I do have a tendency to use excessively large words, however, I go through and strike most of the entirely useless ones. I am not trying to impress anyone with my intelligence, because frankly, I'm not that smart.Therefor, once again, I have to disagree. As for others not enjoying my work cuz the words are too big, then this wasn't intended for them to begin with. If you dont want to think when you read, get a picture book ;]
I am also aware of my ability to confuse people and/or lead to nowhere.

Lol, had to mention this.
"JRR Tolkien and the writer of this book should really take those words into consideration"
Umm, he's dead, you know. I fail to see how he can heed your words if he's dead. =)
Anyway, I'm not going to flame you because you don't like LotR. My sister doesn't like it, my girlfriend doesn't like it, my grandparents might not like it (old fashioned). The book isn't for everyone, and you are right that you may enjoy the movie more.
My only concern is that the film-makers made the movie for people such as yourself, rather than for people who actually read and loved the book.
Hopefully they keep true to the book...
