Temporarily cut you monitor's brightness/contrast or tone down the color intensity if the background glare is too much for you. :P
Mass mercs...reminds me of when I play Medieval: Total War's single player campaign as the Byzantines (early period), where for the first 25 turns or so mercs are all the army you can get until you've teched enough to start training decent numbers of your own units, and if you neglect to get them on Expert difficulty the Hungarians and Turks are more than happy to crush your undefended borders on two fronts. >< |

Two problems though....
Firstly, the Warcraft series does not take place during the Medieval period, nor does it take place on the planet Earth.
Secondly, though some nations of medieval Europe did rely heavily upon mercenary forces at one point or another, most forces were infact nationally* owned.
OTHERWISE, IT WAS A GOOD REPORT!
*I say "nationally" though such a thing did not really exist. "Nations" in the sense we know them today are a newer idea, dating back only a few hundred years during the rise of Nationalism and the revolutions of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Before modern times most, if not all "nations", had no national flag and simply differed to the flag of the reigning regime, monarchy, or autocracy. |
