| WOW!! You could have made four seperate reports out of this and gotten four times the comments and praise. A few typos here and there, but an awesome report. Loved the anaylisis you did throughout the game. I would have liked a few more mini-maps during the game, but it was very cool read. |

As soon as I saw your name on the recent report list I was afraid you'd submitted another Civilization report. Which would probably ruin the chances of my own soon-to-come Civ 4 report getting a good score.

Wow, a four-in-one. Until that fourth game, I thought they were all going to be HT-less PvTs, too. The second game was a bit of a disappointment, but reading the other three was enjoyable.
Having read lots of your previous work, I know you're capable of putting together some great writing, so my major gripe would be the pervasive errors in typing, which marred what was otherwise a really polished report.
The strat-talk was absolutely marvellous; as usual, a treasure-trove of useful information. The pictures were very alive and vibrant, except for your animated GIF (you didn't crop the SC control panel, and it would've looked better if each frame had been centred on the same area).
And unrelated to the games, congrats on citizenship! |

Thanks for the comments everyone. I normally have no problem reporting games I lose, but there really were no good ones. Basically, the games I lose, are short and brutal, and feature me making really silly mistakes. I admit, I am probably somewhat biased, but there were simply no games I lost that I felt merited my spending 2-4 hours writing about them.
The second game was there more to make a point and to illustrate a way to exploit predictable terran play these days. The game itself was nothing special. That's why I like putting several games into one report. Gives me more flexibility in terms of what I want to write about.
Anyway, thanks for reading, and I really should have made this post into 4-5 to boost comment count :O |

I loved the strategic detail. Usually I don't, and go more for the funny or innovative brs, but this was really exactly a nice mix of regular br and overview. I enjoyed each game, and I also learned, so I would give it a 9.
Spelling mistakes were actually pretty numerous, but imo they didn't degrade the quality enough to matter. I'm willing to proofread though, if you ever want/need me too.
Solid 9 as far as I'm concerned. |

Pretty solid. Don't care who won personally (except in that last game, can't have them krazy koreans shitting on the US of A!) so it didn't bother me that you won all four games. The second (I think?) felt weak, countering a vult drop and then steamrolling his poorly orchestrated expansion attempt was what it felt like for me. While I understand what you were going for, I'm more for the intense, closely contested games myself.
Oh, seriously, run this shit through a spellchecker. And maybe a grammar checker. The writing was fine but there were a few errors that made me stop and reread the line. Like when your opponent felt without saying gg. His sexual escapades don't belong in your BR =]
A word on pics: animated gifs are all well and good, but where you placed it was really really distracting for me. I had a hard time with those two paragraphs just because right next to them was flashy colors. Also there's a pic of just one tank sitting there. I'm not sure why you put that in there since it illustrated nothing. On the other hand, the large panoramic pictures were excellent at conveying action. I've always been too lazy to do those but they really do help show what's going on.
I'm going to call it an 8, at the very least because even though it was a four game report it read well enough that I didn't ever wish you'd left anything out. And also for those big pics. |

this is a very pretty report, you do very well with the pictures. i thought the games were very easy to follow as well. i would have preferred more minimap updates and more updates on upgrades, though.
the first problem is, obviously, the numerous grammar and spelling mistakes. They were just silly, a quick proof read should fix that and leaving them unchecked is very very distracting.
also, you seemed to switch from telling a story, to a lecture, to a strategy guide. while switching between these styles can work for some, i didn't feel like it worked here. It felt really awkward, like as soon as i'd start getting into the game you'd stop and start telling me why zealots are needed when engaging terran metal. this also made many of your attempts at humor seem odd.
im split between a 7 and an 8, but im giving this an 8 because i felt the sheer size of the report and the quality of the pictures warrants a strong rating. i highly suggest a proof reader for next time, with reports this size and pics that good you really should be getting 9's and 9.x's but your writing really needs a boost. |

I liked this. I'm a bit sad to say that I've been unable to completely read through recent reports on this site, but I've actually spent about an hour at 12am reading this. I liked the strat talk and how you detailed your thought process. Your description of the battles prior to placing 1-2 pictures was also nice, as the battles weren't "spoiled" beforehand. I thought some of the humor around the middle of the report was pretty forced and unnecessary, but then I've never been a humor guy.
There were some errors that proofreading would've picked up, but they didn't detract from the report that much. Still, waiting a day or two before re-proofreading and posting should help clean things up. Lastly, I was disappointed that you won all four reported games. Waiting until you had a good loss to mix in would've added more balance. |

I concur wit NewbEye. I was hoping for a CIV-4 report, but enjoyed this one nonetheless.
And: "I feel it's a waste of time to report a game where one person won because the other forgot 3 pylons in a row early game. Now, as I said, until recently there were very few such games...mostly thanks to me"
is my perfect excuse for not reporting anymore ;) |

Reavers are useful all game long PvT, if you use them right. If you open reaver, you want to get speed and a second shuttle after the first push (assuming he does that typical mid-game timing push) and have 2 reavers in one shuttle and 4 dt in the other, it helps so much. The reavers require much less micro than hts would, and can be very devastating to a fast push style. And, of course, with a support bay already shuttle speed is easily worth the price mid game.
You can even use them for harrassment throughout, drop them and hit depots at his main, use them to stop naked expansions, and the like. Just use your obs to find weak locations and distract him with the reaver while you build up if you're behind or expand and/or get carrier/arb if you're ahead/even.
About the 3 gate opening: personally I don't like it, but I don't mind getting into a macro game with terran much, really. I will say a few things about what you'd need to do if it doesn't work. First, don't waste goons ffs. If he secures his natural, pull back, stop trooops for a bit and double expand. You have the goons to defend both expansions from vult attack. Personally, I would get a shuttle and fill it with 4 zeals asap. I'd also tech straight to dts and replace the zeals with dts while getting leg speed. This is because I think normally his mid game push will come earlier than your mass will kick in doing this and dts in shuttles are excellent for harassing his push on its way to you.
Of course, after both nexii come online you want to spread out probes as evenly as possible at all 3 bases, gate up, mass up, while stopping probe production. After you get a fairly large army (after you get all your 8-9 or so gates running) you want to go back to making probes.
Dropping reavers behind mineral lines almost never works. You want them either in the mineral line itself or right in a hole in the mineral line (like the one on the right side of the line in your third game). You'll probably lose the whole drop doing this, oftentimes, but if you think it'll be worth it go ahead. It's better than dropping in a poor place and losing your shuttle, anyway. ;( |

Now, on to the rating. I enjoyed the report, it was a nice read. However, there were quite a few things that really stood out to me about it.
First of, it's been covered a lot here but, spelling/grammar errors. They were just way too numerous. Some people have said they weren't really bothered by them, but the sheer number of them really distracted from the report, imo. Everytime I started to get into the games I had to stop and reread a sentence and try to find an image to figure out just where and/or what you were talking about.
Secondly, the games just didn't strike me as being very good. I mean, I know what you were trying to do with them and believe me I know how hard it is to get a good game to write a report about on PGT but I really couldn't give any points for the games being very good because they all seemed to be your opponent playing stupidly and losing. That was your overriding premise, I know but it just didn't work for me. Probably because I'm well aware of just how stupid PGT players are.
The strategy didn't really add anything for me, but I'm glad you put it in as it may have helped out others. I'll agree with Keanu about upgrades and add that if you had mentioned upgrades, especially in the PvT's you could have also delved into just how strong metal upgrades are for terran in that matchup. And possibly, how toss needs to play to get around them. Just a thought.
I agree with some others, minimaps would have been helpful in the two longer terran games. Though, they might have been so neccessary without the constant mislabeling of expansions you were mentioning. ;(
I also agree with Mehdi about the writing style contrasts. It's very good to incorporate humor and strategy into your battlereport but for some reason they didn't seem to flow well in this case. I'm not exactly sure how you'd need to change it around to make it work, but it doesn't really flow now.
Pictures: I liked em, except for the animated gif. I didn't see any need for it, and it sorta distracted and distorted the report, imo. I think saying "I dropped the reaver next to the tanks and destroyed them" gives us enough of a visual without needing a gif for it.
So, I had been debating between a 7 and an 8, but after re-reading the report a couple times the spelling/grammar errors and the somewhat disjointed writing and the overall poor feeling of the games makes me have to give you a seven. Just tighten up on the writing and you'll probably be getting nines. |
