battle reports are not designed to cover each game. They exist to remember a particular game or event. They are entertainment.
Some people search for months to find the right game to report (except if your name is dialtone).
What you are doing is not bad, not at all, good even. But what you are doing is journalism, not battlereporting.
I hope I'm not putting you off, it is not my intention. I'm sure as hell that you put in a LOT of work. back in 1999 this would have gotten you a 8-9. But I suggest looking around the archives a bit more if you want to get those scores. | | #5 Raider[166307] | | c-76-21-163-24.hsd1.va.comcast.net | I have actually read all the 4 reports so far and would like to clarify what Greth is saying. What you are writing is a match summary, where you rather quickly describe what happened. A battle report brings value-adds to the table, which is to say there is something in the report in addition to what happened in the game.
For one, it could be the presentation--a really beautiful way of conveying information. There also has to be something from the author, be it humor, personality, or strategy insights. The influence of the author is so profound in good battle reports that if two people sat down to create a battle reports of the same game, the result would be rather different. The underlying events would not change, but both presentation and personality of each report would be unique to that author.
So if you do wish to receive higher ratings and more interest in your reports, ask yourself, what makes my report unique? And if you don't that, ok too. What you are doing is perfectly fine.

I like to encourage people to report even if they don't create blockbusters every time, some of my reports and Mark4's were pretty short as well. Mark4 (as AQD3) knew he wouldn't get 9 or 10, but decided that was ok, because the site needed reports.
