Any one have any ideas on how to stop the turbo-newbie tank drop?? It's kill me waaaayyy too much...
And that was the weirdest set of opening builds i've ever seen. I messed around with my usual "hyper-hydra" build, and whoop...well, what can I say...a nuke rush???

Wow good report. I know you dont like to make commentary on tactics, but he coulda really hurt me with those drops if he woulda mixed in some lurkers and cracklings. The lurkers woulda prevented me from charging my m&m in while the crax tore through my base. (Those suckers kill shit quick)
Also my academy was exactly when I wanted it.
My force of 2 tanks and 12 marines was poorly managed but in truth was only a distraction for my ghost. Apparently there was an OL over the cliff which gave vision to them lurkers. Shoulda sent my scivessel in for recon first. O well.

Hey Dev,
I love the way you write. My writing skills are acceptable when I concentrate on staying in the same action tense and get into a groove. After seeing posts on BattleNet Forums, sometimes I think I am Timothy Zahn or something...
...but... I would love to work with you on that FFA idea. Graphics are my specialty anyway.
I am out of town this weekend to attend the wedding of my wife's friend... Heartcutter is game, but he too is busy this weekend. Maybe in two weeks?
We'd have to make sure we could get two observers on the same map, while still having a variety. I am all for not even including Lost Temple. A good representative from each race would play that race... Heartcutter as Terran, ProZerg or Mark4 as Protoss, Whoop or Schizo as zerg? Step up to the plate if I didn't mention someone good...
Another reason that this FFA would be a good series is that... even with allying banned, the winner of game one is going to have a big target on him for game two. Game three should come down to the person without a win against one of the winners, and I think that it's likely the champion would be determined here. Game four would happen if all three players had a win, and should be just like game one. Varying maps should compensate for certain race's advantages... We could watch a game, compare notes afterwards, and start working... you on the writing, and me on the pics (with input into both).
The battle reports could come as a trilogy, with the players and reporters holding the results secret until the report is released... I'll even crank out some .gif animations or custom illustrations if needed.
This is getting long winded, so maybe I'll make a "non-battle report" outlining the whole idea to get responses in one place...

YRM: Excellent. I couldn't do it this weekend, but next should be fine.
I'm all for this idea. Points I like:
- Keeping the results secret
- Making it an FFA
- Excluding Lost Temple
Also, with a Free-for-All game it would be great to have two pairs of eyes watching it, so we don't miss anything.
As to commenting on who gets to play, I'm not familiar with ProZerg, but I think Heartcutter's terran is a smart move. The only times I've seen Whoop play is as non-zerg, but I heard Schizo has a good zerg game.
So all in all, let's do it. Sounds great. Plus, I don't want Fractal to hunt me down and kill me. |

To Mark4,
The point of the FFA tournement isn't to get the BEST zerg, terran, and protoss players... someone is always better, and I don't feel like looking up Zileas, Crexis, and Agent (and even these can be debated).
I am thinking of "BigNames" among the people who frequent NoHunters, the forums, or this site. That player has to be looked at as somewhat of a specialist in his chosen race.
Heartcutter may not be the best Terran Player ever, or he might be... but people regard him as a feared Terran opponent.
Mark4... may only know micro and macro and dancing with a few "timing tricks", but since you have noted posts of wins with Protoss... including Heartcutter, you seem like a good choice for Protoss to me. If there's someone out there chomping at the bit saying, "Mark4 sucks, I'm better with Toss." ...and it's true... Cool Beans, but for this tourney, a documented Protoss player like Mark4 is perfect.
Zerg? Who's out there? I haven't played everybody? And how do you tell who did a better job of beating you anyway? Ashcar? I know he's feared with Terran and Zerg. One of the Pkt7 gang? Schizo? Who feels real comfortable with zerg out there?
I think the FFA tourney would be interesting, and no one would lose credibility by losing anyway, because certain aspects of FFA are out of player control. Dev and I would do our best to write and provide graphics, making the battles as exciting as possible. There are alot of aspects of the battles that would be interesting:
Playing styles
Race strengths and weaknesses
Map benefits
Who gets attacked first or hardest
Late game 1-1 between 2 respected players
We are almost guaranteed to see the top units and tricks in action somewhere. As you can tell, I'm excited about the idea, and if I was good enough or race specialized, I'd play it myself... =) |
