I got a question for you terran users out there. What do you use against a guardian/devourer combo? I do know about irradiate, but I always seem to play against smart people who can pick out the irradiated unit, or space them apart smartly. They always bring plenty of overlords, so cloaked wraiths seem to bite it pretty fast. It always seems to end up at this point when I'm lurker contained..I guess I'm really struggling to break out of it, and they're smart enough to defend their own base at the same time so counterattacking isn't working too well. Then from that for the zerg player, it's not too far a transition to ultras and cracklings under dark swarm. Not that I got schooled in that last night by YourRoleModel or anything. ;)

I'm finding I can't afford to make mistakes at all as terran... but conversely, they're the most powerful when you dont make those mistakes it seems.

I handle toss pretty well as terran, it's just zerg that is giving me fits. Ideas?

Valks :-/
Or don't let them get that stuff...

#3 ralessi (tole-cache.dial.bright.net)[6548]
Also don't do the strategy you used v this toss vs any competant player. 2 psi storms and you have no units left.
#4 SnowSquall (dyn083-tnt01.athens.frognet.net)[6549]
Doh.. I forgot all about valkyries!
So they DO have a use!

Any competant toss player wouldn't have tried a cannon push in the first place, so I felt pretty safe. That, and I had comsatted his base so I knew there were no high temps around. Sci vessels with EMP were right around the corner, too. I can dance storms pretty well.. one of the few skills I have. :P

Ack, not valk's=( Valk's suck... golaiths and charon upgrade

If your really brave, blind all the overlords=) Guardians will target other things (hopefully) before targeting your medics.

Mass Scivessel is risky, incase he brings scourge=(

I wish I could beat a good Terran player with my zerg... you should just hang a sign over my head that says "Own me" =(

Blank, going to try air and ling's next...

On lost temple anyways, I think goliaths would be a bit tough, due to the cramped spaces around the naturals, and manuvering around my main isn't really a picnic either.

Now if I get him in the open field, then yeah. :)

Lings work great against terran -- only if you have dark swarm, though. I have no problem owning ground units. Marines annihilate lings, tanks make hydra stew. The only problem is the roadblocks otherwise known as lurkers, which keep me from making a timely assault on the zerg home base.

This is the best day of my life. Somebody called me "semi-competant" and used me and the word Schooled in the same sentence where I wasn't the one getting schooled.

Note: I never used lurkers that game we played. Not one. The thing about medics and marines is that you have to reach critical mass against a flock of mutas, or the mutas will win, simply due to the wide area of splash hits that take down marines faster than they can be healed.

After getting my ass beat due mostly to bad macro by some players like Johnny_Vegas, I reall concentrated on powering my zerg all over the map and only macroing to the point of not clumping for science vessels.

I fought back with terran against a powering zerg once and did a report on it. He was an ok player and good at attacking from two places at once, and I did use valks with my science vessels to good effect. The report is called "Ode to the Book of Heartcutter", since I was studying his tactics just like you are now. You might want to check out how a crappier player than Heartcutter pulled it off, because he's unreal good.

Example: When you tank pushed me, that was a good time to float an expansion to the plateau south of your main (heartwood). Three expansions win you the game... two or less and the book burns.

I'll shut up now... nice report.

Just as a FYI to you, YRM:

I know you didn't use lurkers against me, I was referring to the balance of the games I played today which seemed to have the same neverending theme. :)

I had never played Heartwood before, so I had to familiarize myself with it. I was hoping to keep you from expanding, and I was succesful twice, but I couldn't find the ones you hid from me. I was unaware of the cliffed expansions, but you kept me too preoccupied for me to really get a chance to explore via air units. Great game again, btw!

Good report. I enjoyed reading it. Good job coping with those helpings of cheese.

2 gate zeal o cannon is a devastation technique on a lot of maps. ppl got to 1400++ using that one strat on styx in season 3 by playing only terran

to quote a very wise man.
M M M = make more marines

I find the best way to prevent the guardian/dev/muta combo is to do a lot of turbo newbie drops to eliminate his gas production as often as possible.

Many zerg players go for lurker containment and then tech hard and fast for guards. That's the time when they neglect their defences. Also go on irradiate runs with your sci vessels.

I wouldn't use just valks against a fleet with Devs. But if there is one thing, I do know air. Wraiths or Battlecruisers will kill devs real good. Problem is, if there are muties, that doesn't happen. When Terran, in fleet battles, ALWAYS send the valkyries in FIRST. If you can kill the muties, the dev's ablility is essentially wasted, then go in with wraiths or BC's (either works). Irradiate works well too. Focus on the guardians, then use ground to mop up. Or if you have air, irradiate the bunched muties (even if he moves them out of the way, it does damage). If the Zerg player is good enought to spread out muties, irradiate Devs.

Of course, if all else fails, you can counterattack on of their bases. You lose a base, they lose a base is better than you lose a base, you lose your army, they lose half an army.
