Triple-D vs. The evil Canadians
Or
Better known to you SC players as:
WTF is Warsport???
How it began...

Warsport can only be played on mplayer (blech.. accgkk...ya I know), but it is 100% and downloadable. I was there, when my best ally, Denver69 logged on. I was hungry for a 2on2 game. See there's this Tournament run by Mplayer for Warsport called King of the Hill (KOTH henceforth). It is a 2on2 Tournament with 4 qualifying weeks and a finals weeks. (To this date I have 2 of the 5 completed koths with seperate allies.) Denver and I already qualified in week 2, and we needed some practice meat.
TC-SliderEH and White Fang 69 calmly strut into the Warsport lobby and accept our challenge. They are not common allies like Triple-D (DinoDinDenver). The game is made, all players join... and into the abyss we go.
Brief Explanation of WarSport:
I'll provide this just to explain the basic workings of the games, so that you can better comprehend it when delve into the battle. As I'm sure many of you are not familiar with the game of Warsport (WS for short).
This image here is actually the screen at the moment the game started. It takes a few seconds to sync the players and load the game, but once that is done, this screen appeared. The main display box is just the same as in the SC one. There are individual units in there, and terrain which I will go into in a bit. At the very bottom there is a bar with several circles and some bars. This is where the chat/alliances are done. As you can see my ally is offering me an alliance. In WS you can ONLY have 1 true ally. You have shared vision with this ally and units will not attack each other. Also you can see the talk bubble above white's color. This is how chat is shown. However the "Alliance?" is a simulated response when offering an alliance. You simply type on the keyboard and press enter to talk. You can monocast or broadcast your statements. To mono-cast you click on the person's color in this bar and then type the message.
Now to the far top right is the mini-map and mode buttons. The mini-map should be familiar to all SC players, and it has the same function here. In the first 5 seconds of every WS game, you can see all the units, then only yours and your ally's. You'll also notice the map looks like a stadium shape, and is divided into octants. These are the starting posisitions for the (at maximum) 8 players. The mode buttons will be discussed as they are used in the game.
Below the mini-map is the scoreboard and game clock. WS is divided into 4 sections. 2 minutes for setup mode, where you can move your units anywhere in your octant instantly. This is to setup your formation. The next part of the game is the first half. It is 10 minutes long and operates how you expect normal RTS games to. Then there is halftime which is a 30 second break in the action, followed by the second half. 2nd half is also 10 minutes, and when that ends the player with the highest score wins. Now, onto the scoreboard. This shows the player's name, color and current score. There are four ways to gain points in Warsport. You can kill another player (90 points), survive to the end (100 points), have units cross the center line (+1 per unit crossed and +21 for commander unit crossed) and you can take a flag (+25 for each flag and -25 for each flag lost). As you can see all the players have 25 initially, this is because they all have the flags that are in there zones. Flags do not move, nor can they be moved. The large blue square in the window is the flag in my zone. Flags do not exist in zones that did not have a player in them.
How Warsport is Played
In warsport you cannot build things. You only have the 50 units given to you at the beginning, and your flag. The object of the game is to kill as many non-allied players as you can. To do this you must kill their Communications Center unit, aka Comcen. Now, I know you're thinking about this game as some sort of TA copy. In fact Warsport came out before TA did. :) The Comcen is not some all powerful unit either. The rest of your units, or robots are your soldiers who will try to meet this end. There are 4 types of robots. The first is the Grunt, it is the human-looking unit on the screen above. Most of your army is comprised of this unit. He has short range, moves slowly, and takes a bit of damage to kill. The next unit is called the Boomer. This unit is the squarish tank-looking man between many grunts. This unit acts as an artillery piece. You only have 6 of these units, and they are very vulnerable. The next unit is the rider, they are the ones below the big line of grunts/boomers. The rider is fast, but has a light attack (same range as grunt) and cannot take much damage. You only posses 12 of these. The last unit is the spy. It cannot shoot, and is killed rather quickly. The spy is identical to the Observer in Starcraft. In that, it has no weapon, moves fast, has a powerful vision, and can only be spotted by other Observers. The other unit, the large tank appearing unit at the bottom is the Comcen.
Each unit can only be ordered to move. Units can be stacked on top of each other in the same square as well. The units will automatically shoot at the enemy unit closest to them, and can move while shooting. If any comcen's are in range of the units the units will shoot at the closest comcen. Units can also automatically repair while not fighting or moving. The terrain affects the units ability to shoot and move. The comcen has no automatic weapon, but it does have some weapons. It possesses 20 missiles. 4 missiles shots will kill any normal robot regardless. The missiles also will do a splash to each area around them. The comcen also has 5 drones. Drones are like long range guided missiles. Whereas missiles can only go in the view of the comcen, drones can go all over the map. Drones are just like missiles in that they do splash damage, but it only take 2 to kill a unit. Also the drone will paralyze any unit it damages. The unit will not be able to shoot or move for awhile (until it repairs). Units will also take more damage if shot in the flank, and even greater damage if shot in the rear. This makes flanking highly important. That about sums up the gameplay, now lets listen to the Battle Report!!! Try to follow if you can, if you find difficulty, read through this section again maybe.
The Battle:
We had spawned at starting spots across the map, this meant our enemies were in the same situation. We planned to do a fast double on Yellow Slider. He was slightly above and to the right of me. We both send our scouts to both areas to see what is going on. They quickly find that our opponets are attempting to double my ally. How dare they?!?!
Slider Falls
Slider and Denver were the first to clash together. Denver took the hill and open terrain, because he had reached the area first. Slider had to go through the forest terrain, which slowed his units down, and could not take advantage of the terrain. Also, Denver was able to posisiton his men as to trap Slider in the forest. In the forest units' shots are much weaker. I supplied a few charity drones to drop their care packages on Slider's men, and Denver destroyed Yellow Slider's army with extreme prejudice. All this time, Orange Fang was inching towards my ally, Denver. We had had a few rider skirmishes, but nothing much was lost. When only a few smoking grunts and boomers were left of Slider's once great army, I decided to send in my own riders to clean up as my army was too slow in getting there. Slider saw this and engaged with his own riders, and a bloody battled ensued. (Bloody? Robots?)

During this time my ally, had been searching for Slider's comcen so he could reap his 90 points. He found it, but not where one would expect. Slider had pulled off a risky move. He send his com behind his army. This gives you the advantage in being able to send drones to the battle faster, but if you get caught, you're in deeeep shit. It hardly mattered at this point, seeing as my humble ally had soundly crushed Slider. Within seconds Slider's comcen and remaining troops were elminated.
The rest of the game:
In WS it is tough to win a 2on1 with competent opponents. Harder than it is even in Starcraft. White Fang really stood no chance at this point, and my ally was playing lax. He wanted me to get some action finally seeing as he was running the show so far. I advance my army across the board towards where I knew orange to be. However I overstepped myself, because Orange had created a trap for me. My army crossed the river into the spot just left of my ally's starting posisiton, and then they were attacked from two sides. White Fang had me properly flanked. I however controlled the hill. He made a great stand, and took a large portion of my army with him. But with the drones that both Denver and I sent... he stood no chance really. Minutes later his comcen was turned to dust by my riders as his comcen was corralled.
This game wasn't a very close game in warsport standards. I thought it would have been closer at the start, but mainly I have posted this to introduce you to the rules and game of Warsport. This is because I hope to making more posts about closer games, with better opponents. If you would like to play Warsport, goto www.mplayer.com. There you download the mplayer software, and once initialized you can search for ws in the Strategy section. Thank You. Also Delete those previous things, man learning html here heh.
