Zerg...
Great, might as well say GG now grrrr....
Oh wait, I can be like my hero The HYDRADROPPER! lets try!
I start out by going 2 hatch scouting my opponent and then going pool, extractor, double lairing and den. all the while pumping out drones and some lings for defense and advance warning, as well as 3 strategically placed sunkens.
While the lairs are forming, I realize i will need a bit more res so I expand to the 3:00 where I place a sunken for defense.
One of my burrowed lings calls out "Heads up boss! you gonna have company!". A platoon of Zeals coming out of his main and heading out with my name written all over their psi-knives.
I keep my lings close to the sunkens and call for a few hydras to help. As he comes in the lings and the sunkens manage to fight off the zealots and then the hydras come in just in time to save me from the 2nd wave which was mostly goons.
"Evolution complete!"
Both speed and transport complete at the same time. Allright at least i will have time to drop on him before he finishes me (I was expecting another wave at this point). I load up 4 lords worth of hydras and send them to his main via the long way (to avoid any incoming goons).
He wasn't interested in attacking, he was expanding. It just so happened that my ovies passed the site of his exp. His nexus was there already but his canons were just being warped in. Needless to say orders were changed and That was where the drop took place.
What a feeling! Everything Hydradropper said was true. Dropping hydras gives you a feeling of immense power. the exp was toast and i had time to load them back up just before the zeals got to them. I then proceeded to the main base and did the same thing.
To make a long story short, at the very moment I got drop capability the whole game changed. I could be anywhere anytime and stop anything he did. the drops became more and more voluminous and hydras and lurks became permanent residents of his bases. he reaver dropped on my expansion, however I got mutas just at this time so they took care of them and he capitulated.
Lessons learned
1) The hydra drop kicks ass! it leaves your opponent in a state of fear and on the defensive
2) The base has zealots You say? Hydra drop and Mutas.
The base has canons? Hydra drop and guardians.
The base has carriers? Hydra drop and scourges.
3) I am really excited about the Hydra drop can you tell?
4) Ok, there is a little period while you are teching from ling to hydras and the necessary upgrades in which you are very vulnerable and you can be taken out (I got owned that way by a terran who attacked me during the very same window but he had medics so lings and sunkens just bought it big time)... But apart from that the hydra drop rules!
5) Seriously though, he should have gone to scouts to kill my overlords or maybe sairs.
6) I never saw a hint of a templar. Psi-storm is a must vs hydras but maybe he didn't know that.
