Zerg Checklist

Prelude: No action pics, the game was very intense in every way, so sorry. I was in NH looking for a 1on1, since I've been playing 2on2s with Barage a little too much, and needed to work on my 1on1. After I couldn't get a game going (afk, as usual), I decided to try the best pubbie game I could find. I wound up on Temple with a guy named Lord_Terranus, and a record of 51/2/0. The game began with me shaking nervously. Also: Bring along a Zerg Unit Checklist for this journey to see how many of the Zerg units were used in this Battle Report.

The begining of the END

I ended up with the 12:00. Nice start. After I had my SCVs mining nicly (actually, one stepped over the minerals somehow, and had to walk all the way around the minerals to return cargo), I engaged in conversation.

MasterOfMordor: Either your REAL good...
MasterOfMordor: Or your a comp basher :D
Lord_Terranus: :)
Lord_Terranus: Prepare to die!

I believed him too. I sent my 8th SCV to my choke, and upon arrival he began construction of a Barracks. Then my 9th SCV was rallied at my choke, to begin construction of a Depot, to fuel more hard working SCVs. I noticed his Overlord floating in sight-range of my Barracks-to-be, and even more text ran accross the screen. I queued up another SCV and, before it had finished, the Supply Depot completed.

MasterOfMordor: Hi, hi Ovie :D
Lord_Terranus: Dang
Lord_Terranus: I shoulda rushed
MasterOfMordor: Perhaps you should have

The SCV didn't even get a whiff of the Jack Daniels that was stored in the Depot, for Deon of course, because he was immediately sent back to mining via Shift-que. The newest of the SCVs was sent to the large crater directly west of the Center, and build a Refinery. SCVs continued to be trained in the Command Center, and when the Refinery completed 2 SCVs were promoted to Gas relay. My barracks was confirmed complete by it's SCV, and a Marine was put to school. The SCV went out to scout, right at the 3 o'clock, since I had seen his Overlord, I knew his location. The SCV made his way up the ramp, but a few scurrying Zerglings blocked the path. The Zerglings, obviosly ignoring the SCV to chace a rabit, or frog, allowed the SCV passage, and the SCV took a look at the Zerg's base. Wait a minute... a few Zerglings! They'd be at my door any minute, for it was no rabit they were chasing. I quickly took 2 SCVs from minerals, in hopes to block my ramp and make the Zerglings scurry when they couldn't pass my SCVs to get to the Marines taking pot-shots on the other side. The SCVs arrived, but they hadn't the time to assemble, and the Zerglings tore through them, and 2 of the 3 marines. I queued an aditional 2 more Marines, and told all my SCVs to attack tward the Zerglings. When the Zerglings engaged I had my Marine begin attacking too. The Zerglings had a hard time getting around the SCVs but, they made it to the marine, and killed it. 4 Zerglings left, SCVs dieing like flies, I ordered my new Marine to fire on the distracted Zerglings. I killed them, without further losses, and began mining as usual. Check off Zerglings, they wounded my economy and my offensive forces.

MasterOfMordor: Lurkers now?
Lord_Terranus: :)

Burrowed

In fear of Lurkers, I ordered a Factory and an Engineering bay built. I was hurting for money now, and with less than 10 SCVs mining, it wasn't coming in fast enough. I saved enough for an SCV, then a marine. Than an SCV, then a Marine. Money was coming in quicker, and my engineering bay was done. I was hurting for supplies soon enough, and had a depot built at my choke. It now sealed off all units with medium size, or bigger. I sent my damaged Marine out to scout. He was killed by a lurker. Containment. Check off the Lurker, but not the hydra, as he hasn't used any offensives with it yet. I had a turret at my choke, and a Tank with seige. I built a Turret at my SCV line, in fear of Lurker Drops, and also 1 more tank. Soon enough, the Overlord flew in and over my SCV line. It retreated at the sight of the turret and tanks. I began work on a Starport, and Armor had arrived, to bolster my Marines against enemy fire. He tried an offensive on my, but it failed, and he ran losing few troops. I found that I now had the advantage, but still sensed that he had expanded. It was time to go on the offensive.

Counter-Attack

I began work on a Command Center, aiming to float it to my Natural. My Starport bore a Control Tower Addon, and soon 2 Dropships were assigned to be built. When they arrived, I unsieged the tank at my choke, and put him in one of the ships, along with a Tank fresh off the line, 6 marines, 1 SCV and 1 medic. I flew to the northern-most section of his base, and began to lay the smack-down... well, down. Tanks seiged, Marines stimmed, and Medics healed during the Chaos. A good number of Drones were killed before they fled, and the offensive even made it past his defensive attempts. But then I saw something I didn't like. A hive. A hive. A HIVE! Now my mind whirled. Was he going for cracklings? Guards? ULTRAS? DEFILER!! It ended up being them all. But on with the story. I took on 12 Zerglings, 2 hydras AND a lurker, before the offensive dried up. I retreated with my 21HP Tank, and medic. A Science Facility and 2 wraiths were queued, and I lifted off my Command Ceneter to expand to my natural, knowning it wouldn't recieve an addon. Now I had 3 tanks 10+Marines 2 medics, and an expansion. I had 600 minerals to burn, and decided on yet another expansion. I began a Command Center on the left most part of my base, plans to float to the top-left were in it's infancy. I went out with my Wraiths and began to harass Ovies, when I spotted, a Queen! Seeing it's destruction before it, parasited both of my Wraiths, then ran. It was hunted down and killed. I checked all of my units, and behold, 1 Medic, and 1 SCV were parasited. Check off Queens. The skillfull parasiteing gave him priceless information, and made me spend 100/100 on restore. I began harrassing untill some hydras made me pull back.

Could Terran be victorious? nope

My expansion CC landed and began work on SCVs, but before I could get defences, 12+ Zerglings rushed past my canyon defences and into my expansion, to attack the Command Center with impunity. It was lifted off, and then ignored by the Zerglings. I then lured them in with a Marine, and wrecked havoc upon the Zerglings. I landed again, and positioned a tank on my ledge that could defend both my expansion, and my choke. My newest CC was finished, and ordered to the top-left. My expansion was fitted with 8 SCVs, and more training. They got about 1 mintue worth of mining before 12 zerglings and 6+ Hydras knocked it down. Suddenly the 6+ Hydras were 12+, and knocking it down fast. What happened? He had 6 hydras burrowed there, to see If I expanded, and instantly have 6 extra hydras to bolster his offenives. Check off hydras, and well used at that. The CC died, so I turned to my western-most CC, and saw that there was a Overlord in the corner. I turned the CC back to my base, thinking," Game over, this guy is good." But then I got an idea. I landed my Center at the 'very' edge of the island, outside of the sight-range. I queued up 5 SCVs, and planned my next move.

Enough is ENOUGH!

I loaded up my 2 idle Dropships with 1 tank 8 marines, 2 Bats, and 2 Medics. It's my experience that you should bring along on Turbo-Newbies, because that 1 tank can take out a base faster than 2 tanks and 8 units worth of support troops. Why you ask? Because 12 units of support can handel mutas, the Zergs main counter, much better than 8. Exceptions, of course, are Broodling. Ahh... but my StarPort was far from idle. Irradiate, 50+ max energy, and 2 Science Vessels had been prepared! A scan comfirmed the expansion, and the Turbo-Newbie was put into action. It went along nicely, and a little opposition of 4 mutas was held by the 12 units of support :D. The Tank succeded in ravaging the base ALONE, and slowly (and painfully). My main was dry of minerals, so I sent the idle SCVs to mine from my Natural, even though there was no Center there, atleast I was getting money. It was here that I thought, no, knew, that I was a goner. I remembered my 'sneaky' trick at the island and put the SCVs to work. Thinking that I was on a role, I let my money save up. Tsk tsk. Actually, I'm not very good at all, when It comes to playing StarCraft, and spending minerals as they come (compared to whoops 10 gateways, I'd have -2).

Zerg SPIES

Feeling confidant I neglected to protect my SCVs. I paid. 12 cracklings rushed in, and killed my SCVs. Furious as to how he knew that, I brought in a Vessesl. 6 zerglings were burrowed there! ARG! In all my sneakiness, he knew it all along. I killed them off w/ a tank and 2 marines (it kills them in 1 hit), and built a Command Center there. AND a bunker under my ramp. AND 2 tanks. AND I filled the Bunker. AND I added a Turret. I sent an SCV to the 9o'clock. I found an Overlord there, but decided to pull the same trick I had on my Island, I built it on the Very edge. I then Realized. I WAS LOW ON GAS. I had 200 gas. And 4000 minerals. Gasp. I built another barracks (this is macro for me :D). I realized I needed to be offensive. I satted the bottom main. A COLONY! With a nydus building. Now It'll never die! Then my turbo newbie was attacked. He dropped 16 Zerglings down, but I had 1 Vessel there. I d-matrixed my firebat, 1 second later, I d-matrixed him again. The firebat took on the Zergling army. The unfortunate part is, they killed everyting else. He was alone. My Dropships and Vessels ran, as queens came through and parasited everything. Crap. As they were retreating, I saw a defiler emerging from his main ramp. It was heading for my base. I looked at my base. I saw plauge. My initial turret died a few seconds later. CRAP. I added a Tank to the very edge of my Ledge, and put forward a vulture to scout ahead, for maximum range. Check off Defiler, it killed 1 bunker 1 turret, JUST with plauge. Later it also swarmed w/ Ultras.
FINALLY, I loaded up 2 tanks and 8 marines to take out the southern expansion, before it was too late. I made it to the base, and began pounding on the outter most sunken. Larvae was suddenly 'eggonized', and I knew, KNEW, they were cracklings. I supported the attack w/ my 7 Vessels. By the timethe cracklings emerged (12), I had the sunkens down and marines fireing on hatcheries. Suddenly 24 zerglings appeared from the Nydus. Ooops! The Nydus! My Marines were swarmed, and my tanks were taken down before they could unsiege, and reenter my dropships, even with D-matrix. Soon after, the 30 Zerglings were sent to my 9:00 expansion and slaughtered it. Hydras came and beat on the Center, and a Queen followed it around, eager to infest. I immediatly sent 1 of my Vessels down to Irradiate. In the middle of the pathe were 7 Devouerer. BOOM, BOOM, BOOOOOOM! My vessel was suddenly spored, several times. I ran it around and had my 6 other vessels go to the middle. I ended up irradiating ALL of them to death (due to overlapped damage) and 3 of my vessels. I lost my Center, and things were looking bad.

Playing eeeny meeny miny mo' with expansions = bad

I counted all known expansions. He had 3. I had 1. Umm... I decided to mount an offensive on the 6o'clock natural. I sent 12 marines 2 Medics, 1 tank, and 1 SCV. 2 seconds after it arrived. Kavwooomp. A swarm was cast, and 6... yes 6 ultras burst out of the valley. Umm... that's bad. I irradiated all 6, and due to overlapping damage they all died. But so did my attack force. Back to square one. I began my strive for Vessels again, but was interruppted by 3 guardians, 3 irradiate later, I was safe. I built another Barracks, and began pumping marines. I realized, he had 1 armor upgrade. I had 1 armor upgrade AND 3 attack upgarades. 5000 minerals is alot of marines, so it seemed like a safe bet. By the time I had in and around 18 marines, and 6 vessels, the attack came. First the Zerglings. Then the Hydras. Then the Ultras. I was irradiateing like a mad man, untill the Scourge came. 5 booms later, I had 1 very weak Vessel. I added another Barracks, and my units were 3/2. Time to END THIS!

FINAL BATTLE! or not

I gathered atleast 24 marines, and 2 tanks. He had the 6o'clock defended by 4 'very' spread out sunkens. I seiged up with 2 tanks, and begain to destroy it. I was very, VERY anxious to win, so I decided to just go in with the marines. The marines pounded on the Sunkens with the aide of 8 medics, they rammed through. I thought it would be easy. Boy was I wrong. Suddenly pluage rained down from the cliff on all my marines, and 3+ ultras, and many cracklings sped up the valley. Slaughter.

MasterOfMordor: Nice one

I could tell he was hurting for money, and proof was that he sent all his drones to the 9:00. Time to all or nothing. 24 marines (oh, and 4 bats), and 8 Vessels marched to his door. D-matrixed everything (or close to everything) and attack move. I began an expansion at my mineral only natural, but he disconnected. That was his last opperational mineral source. This is not a brag report, as I didn't win. This is a 'great', no 'awsome' game report. My enemy, was very good. He used Many Zerglings, Hydras too. Queens often did broodling raids on my tanks, and defiler too. Ultras slaughtered many offensives of mine, and Devourer made a great counter to my Vessels. A mutalisk attack (16+) ruined my economy, and Guards were sent to harras many times. Lurkers kept me contained alot of the time, and scourge must've killed 12+ vessels. He was an exceptional opponent, who owed me, at the very least a GG. It would've been even better, if we could've talked about the game, or atleast shared points of views. I hope to see him again, and give him my GG.

GG, MasterOfMordor
