I usually don't play zerg but on this day I was feeling slightly cocky and I said "Hey might as well." Besides, I had practiced in single player custom maps
I started out with my usual Zerg build order 9 drones, 10/9 supply extractor trick, 10 hatch, 9 spawning pool, 8 extractor, a couple of sunkens and then a hydralisk den and a Lair upgrade.
I had been neglecting my scouting so when I finally found his base with 4 zerglings they got pummeled by siege tanks and a bunker that shot them down before they even got to the ramp.
I figured that he had probably spent quite a bit of his cash on those choke defenses and people who have large choke defenses don't really bother to defend the rest of their base. I was thinking that I should let the 20-25 zerglings and 30 or so hydralisks who were at home drinking malt liquor (Those Terrans will trade with anybody) and they needed some action.
I loaded up my army on about 10 overlords and headed over to his base, pausing long enough to send a drone to my natural and one to the 12:00 natural. I send a quick overlord in to scout and then when I saw it was clear, I landed. As it turned out, he had almost no inner base defense at all and it was quite an easy battle. It would have been more fun if I had added the ultralisks that were roaming around my base but I had decided that I needed some amount of defense if the attack failed.
He actually tried to save himself, I'll give him that much. He lifted off some of his buildings and then flew them away but I had brought in some reinforcement hydras and the buildings were sandwiched in between the two forces. I claimed my 4th ladder win for a record of 4-3 and a rating of 1051.
Lessons Learned:
*Zerg drops are pretty forceful, especially when playing against a fairly new player
*You should never rely all that much on your choke defense, you need to spread it out a little bit and make sure your base is well covered. I pride myself in the fact that in this game I don't think he saw a single building. I had too many hydras guarding all over my base.
*Expansions are a superb idea. When the game was over I had 2 bases that were running, my main was mined out. He never even started an expansion. At the end when he floated his buildings he started a new base up at the 12:00 but my expansion at that natural took care of that. Do you have any idea how quick 6 ultras can take out an undefended Command Center? Hehe =)
*Taunting works pretty good. He started calling my all these names but I think what I said really sunk in. Ass Cheese is pretty insulting don't you think?
