" Long ago, there was a boy, almost a man, who wished, on his birthday, to become a man. Sitting in his home, waiting for the world to see his strength, poise, and stature, he wished only to gain the respect and trust of his peers. What he got instead was Starcraft, and it was better then all that other shit. " - LoZeR-X's The First Battle Report by LoZeR-X

I was to go to the world of Volcanis, and fight a battle against a zerg cerebrate who was supposed to be inexperienced. I was not too experienced myself, so the high terran commander obviously thought that it would good for me to trash this zerg. I don’t no what was wrong, but there was something inside me screaming ‘NO’!
We now descended down through the clouds of the world lying bare a small area with minerals and gas. Reports said that the zerg would be south east of us, due to the fact that there was another area just like this very suitable for a base. The retro flare on the Command Center, bringing the mammoth building down to a soft landing. The landing bay at ground level swept open and 4 Space Construction Vehicles can hover down and toward the minerals located besides the building.
I sat down on the command chair and leaned towards the screen to see tiny symbols moving back and forth gathering minerals. I brought out the keypad and I ordered that more SCVs be cued up. After 4 new SCVs were made, I tapped on one of the SCVs. This opened up a small screen at the bottom of the screen.
“Chalmers reporting.”
“Build a Supply Depot just below those crystals there.”
“Yes sir.”
The symbol moved down and started welding pieces of metal into place. I checked with resources and we had very little minerals left. That was soon fixed as SCVs constantly brought in more minerals. Soon more SCVs were queued up. The Supply Depot was finished now, and I ordered that very SCV to build a barracks.
Minerals were rolling in. I reflect that we should scout the enemy soon, but I thought ‘What the hell, he shouldn’t be too experienced.’ Then my heart stopped for a second. One word popped into my head.
Rush.
I stood out of my chair and ordered a 2nd SCV to build a second barracks right beside the first. I looked at the status of the building. The green bar was slowly sliding towards completion.
“Sir we are under attack!”
I looked down to the main screen. 6 creatures ran into my base on all four legs. The started ripping at the SCVs making the barracks.
“SCVs, attack those zerglings!”
They moved into position. Small sparks of electricity flew from the tips of their suits, searing flesh. The zerglings were not too kind to this. They turned around and with large sweeping slashes. The zerg furiously ripped off the arms and legs of SCVs. I rose from my chair. SCVs were being killed rapidly.
I checked the status of my barracks. One was 90% complete, with the SCV making it killed. The other barracks was around 40%, but too, the builder was killed. Damn, no marine support today. Half their zerglings exploded into blood. I ordered up more SCVs but it was hopeless. Extra zerglings ran towards my base, exterminating the lives of the rest of my SCVs. I slammed my fist down.
I reached across to another console. Pulling levers and hitting buttons, a deep roar came from within the building. The landing legs retracted into the building. Slowly, the building lifted into the air. I pushed the main stick all the way forward and the command center took of to the east.
The main console beeped. Rolling the chair in that direction I hit a button. A message screen opened up, revealing a page of text.
“Where did this come from?” I said out loud.
I skimmed through it. It said… It said… It said…
‘My dear dear terran, you have been lured into a trap. I am so sorry. You have met Yamarch, the zerg cerebrate , awarded several times by the overmind. Too bad. So sad. Good bye.’
My brow furrowed. Intel was wrong!.
I slide the chair back and I spotted a resource spot. I turned to land there, but I thought of something else. They will rip me to shreds if I go there. I turn to the center, hoping that there would be something there.
It came onto my main display. The high mountain of ashen lava. Cooled lava streamed down the side. Using a zoom lens, I spotted a patch of minerals, and 2 gas sources. Yes, that would do. I directed the building down onto the side, in between a patch of minerals and the gas source. I checked with resources. They reported that we had 243 tons of minerals, and no gas. The legs extended out of the Command center and the altitude dropped. The building slammed onto the ground, shaking loose dirt down the side of the volcano. I immediately queued up a SCV, and thought, ‘what now?’
The volcano was steep enough that no ground units would make it up. So the obvious answer to killing me was either mutalisks or dropping. I expected mutas more so though. “Okay lets make this work.”
4 SCVs were done now. They were all happily mining away. I clicked on a SCV.
“Chalmers reporting.”
“What? How did you survive.”
“Lets just say this. It was hard to find a hand hold on the Command Center, but I did.”
“Err… okay. Make a supply depot.”
“Roger.”
I kept on ordering up new SCVs. Chalmers reported the supply depot being done. I ordered him to build a barracks. I queued up more SCVs. When I counted 8, I ordered up 2 more and ordered one of my SCVs to build a refinery onto of the geyser nearby.
I was quite happy with myself. I have held of death for at least awhile now. The refinery and the barracks finished, so I ordered up another supply depot, a barracks and a academy. I transferred 3 SCVs from minerals to gas. Money was rolling in.
I checked the mission log so far.
“After my main base was destroyed, I flew my Command Center to a volcano and landed there. Using stored minerals, I rebuilt my economy. Currently I Have: 12 SCVs, 2 barracks, 2 supply depots, an academy and a refinery.”
I ordered up 2 more supply depots and trained some marines. I noticed zerglings trying to climb the volcano. An overlord flew over the volcano at an extremely slow speed. The marines ran into position, and filled it full of lead. The creature died, and fell, crashing into the ground. I ordered a few SCVs to drag it to the edge of the volcano and throw it down the hill. The corpse went rolling down creating a minor avalanche, forcing the climbing zerglings down off their position.
“Heh Heh.”
I ordered up more marines, as well as a comstat attached to my Command Center. I also ordered up a factory. I had about 6 marines now, so I switched production to medics. I built 4, then I built a Starport. I built 4 more marines, 4 more medics, then 6 more marines, while attaching a control tower onto my starport. I built 3 dropships and I got both upgrades for my marines from the academy.
A small transmission was sent.
“That was a nice stunt you pulled.”
“It was no stunt, as you are about to see.”
I loaded up the dropships with all of my infantry. The engines on the dropships ignited. The ships went straight for the zerg base. They ran low over the resource line, and ordered the dropships to drop their ramps. 16 marines and 8 medics poured from the ship. I ran the dropships away. The marines used Stimulants, while medics healed the tissue damage. In seconds I killed all of the drones, and moved onto the buildings. All the enemy troops must have been surrounding the volcano, because no enemy icons showed up on the display.
For the second time today, I heard a message.
“Sir we are under attack!”
I looked back on my base. 10 mutalisks poured in and started attacking buildings. Mainly my Command Center. Their attacks rocked the entire structure, and I considered pulling back my troops. Then I remembered a recent article I read by A3QD where he pressed the attack, destroying the enemies base before his own base fell. My base was holding, his was being slaughtered. I held firm.
Soon the last of his buildings fell. The mutas suddenly dropped out of the sky. Their bodies dropping into the abyss that was the lava in the center. I had won. The zerg were destroyed. “Awarded my ass.”
So, how do you like my new style. Hope it is more successful then my previous ones. To clarify, this was a 1on1 newbie game (I consider myself a newbie.) in which I suspected a newb killer. This guy said. “SC, whats that?”. So I kinda knew what was coming. But I fought on and in the end I kicked his ass. Anyway, I posted because I was pleased with how the game went, and to try out my new style. Thanks for reading.
I hope I fixed everything.
