Battle Report:

Brood War strategy forum Tournament

SEMI-FINAL

AP_TAKTIKS, 300+ wins expert player

Vs

~KF~, Another great Terran player

Location: The beautiful Dark Temple, allow up to 4 observers and 4 players. One of the best multi-players maps ever make. The official map for the tournament.

AP draws random as Protoss, and KF go for his best race as Terran.

Early game:

AP strategy: Turbo Expansion

AP quickly put up one pylon and two cannons below his chock point. A single probe reconnaissance at right center, and terran at lower left. A second nexus is warped in for the expansion on the right side. Additional gates and extra pylons were also added to the main base. To counter marine and medics, he warp in citadel of adun, and robotics facility. A shuttle was made to fly a single probe to the upper island. A templar archives was warp in on the right expansion. Two dark templars, and two dragoons quickly join the defender.

KF strategy: Massive troop buildup

The Terran commander start by building a barrack right next to his ramp, and training marines to block off exit ramp. After initial reconnaissance, KF switched over to heavy metal. He builds 2 factories, tech for spider mines. In anticipation of dark templars, 4 vultures start to mines around his base and below the ramp, and expansion on the right. The second factory quickly tech for siege tanks, and 2 tank rolling out the battlefield.

The windows of opportunity at 8 minutes:

AP

: main base plus 2 expansion, 2 DT, 2 cannons, one dragoon. AP lose one dragoon at early reconnaissance

KF

: One main base, 15 stim-packed marines, 2 medics, 5 vultures, 2 tanks with siege mode researched. KF lose one vulture at early reconnaissance.

The 15 Minutes mark:

AP: Due to the lack of effective reconnaissance, KF failed to take advantage of this brief and great opportunity. AP quickly build up his force. Twelve zealots with leg-upgraded, eight dragoons with range-upgraded, three high templars with PSI-storm researched. Addition to the original two dark templars.

KF: Two wraiths, four more tanks, and one science vessel was added to the strike force. Two more tanks was setup to defense both side of the terran base. Due to the lack of second barracks, only 10 more marines were also trained.

The Decisive battle

The opposing force

AP

: One of the most brilliant defense I ever see on dark temple. A trap is setup right below the Protoss ramp. One observer and one templar was on-hold 6 spaces in front of the cannons defense position. 3 fully charged high templars parked right next to the two cannon. Full group of zealots and dragoons positioned 4 spaces behind the cannon. (See mini-map)

KF

: One vulture was scouting up front, and camp right outside of the cannon range. It was within sign of AP's dark templar. If the dark templar had attacked the vulture, KF will be tips off to pull back the strike force. The strike force assemble outside the protoss main. Four tanks plus more marines and medics, one science vessel arrived.

The onslaught

Suddenly, the sky was thundering with blue lightning. The sound of screaming marines, exploding tanks echo the battlefield. The science vessel was quickly destroyed. A surviving medic desperately tries to heal the dying marines, just to be slaughter by the incoming zealots and dragoons. The high templars quickly merged into a white ball of energy. As KF quickly try to retreated his remaining force back to his main base, 5 upgraded zealots and 5 dragoons quickly finish of the remaining force.

After the battle

The victorious Protoss force quickly kill off defenseless command center on the expansion below the ramp of Terran. 2 siege tanks above the ramp stopped the protoss advance. The dragoons retreat out of range of tanks, and camp outside.

AP

: Now control 5 expansions. Leading large group of dragoons and zealots, back by 3 high templars, one archon.

KF

: With no surviving expansion, the terran force decided to defense his last base. 7 Tanks was build along with large group of marines on the ramp. Back by 2 science vessels.

The Final Assault (40 minutes into the game):

The thundering of arclite tanks bombarding the battle field, as massive Protoss warriors rushing down the ramp below the Terran base. Blue blood spill all over the battlefield. Suddenly, the tanks stop firing, and all the Protoss warriors have vanished from the field. Ghostly energy wave start to moving toward the siege tanks. Lightning bolts coming out of thin air quickly destroy the panic tank crews. The desperate science vessels launch shock-wave missiles try to disable the Protoss force, and detected massive cloaks dragoons below. Before they give away the position to the tank commanders, themselves was quickly shoot down by incoming lighting bolt. Above the sky, a fleet of 4 arbitors from the newly build startports join the assault force. Blue lighting storm again light up the sky, as Terran tanks exploding everywhere. 3 minutes into the battle, the Terran base was littered with burning building and dying marines.

The Protoss warriors force commanded by AP_TAKTIKS have once again, demolish the invading terran force, and retake Lost Temple.
