| One on One Fierco Ocean Combat-instant death. | | | Author: | | | IP: | XXXX | | Date: | 10/24/99 06:10 | | Game Type: | Warcraft 2 | | Labels: | none | | Report Rating: , # of Ratings: 2, Max: 5, Min: 5 Lifetime Rating for AoS: 5.0000 | | Let me start by laying out my FOC death-build. First, not to gloat, but I have never lost a one on one on FOC. That should give you an idea of how potent this strategy is. It's also simple-Build Juggs FAST and then blockade your enemy on his own island! The build skips everything, even a barracks, so it is definatly not to be undertaken lightly! But onto the battle at hand, a game between myself and NAILBOMB.
MAP: Fierce Ocean Combat
PLAYERS: Agent_of_Sol Top right, orc.
NAILBOMB, bottom right, orc.
I started my build (low resources version), 8th or 9th peon build lumber mill, then shipyard. Build a destryoer, then 4 tankers. Once oil is coming in, build a foundry. By this time my destroyer usually finds a shipyard or perhaps oil rig under construction. But I found nothing. So I thought "Good, a newbie," and continued the build with a buch of juggs. He was indeed a newbie, but he gave me QUITE a scare nonetheless. Just when I had five juggs encircling his island, I noticed an ogre mound, but he only had a great hall; he had build a second out of range of the sea and ungraded it. I upgraded to stronghold and started to get flyers when three dragons appeared and leveled my fleet. I quickly built destroyers and reestablished navel superiority around his island. But nine more dragons were already headed towards my base.
They found NOTHING that could stop them, and I was unwilling to recall my fleet and relinquish sea superiority around his island. But I was out of food. Thus I had to build farms and THEN pump destryoers and axe throwers. The dragons went down, but not before razing most of my base. Nevertheless, I had the money to retake the offensive, with the words: 'very nice. But how many more can you build?'
The answer was none. NAILBOMB began a desperate attempt to build a shipyard and get off a transport. I had only destroyers, and a great deal of micromanagement was neccessary to take down his two shipyard building efforts and avoid/destroy his catapults. But in the end the death-build preservered, as it always does.
Two things-only an equal build can counter it, as no matter how great your land fortifications are the person who hems you in can expand ALL over the map. Also, this is not an advisably strategy on a two on two, because unless you can BOTH pull this off, you will hem in one opponent only to have his ally lift the blockade.
Apologies for the lack of pictures, this is my first battle report and I have no screenshots. I also apologize for its berevity, but I was writing it and my computer froze, so I retyped a shortened version.
