The map was astral planes, a small map for 2 people. My opponent was B.C.55. We both chose random. I was placed in control of a ravenous Zerg brood, hungry for blood, and spawned in the lower left corner. BC drew Terran and spawned in the upper right corner. I proceeded to follow my standard Zerg build order, going 9 drones then making and canceling an extractor for the benefit of an extra drone. I went double hatch and made a spawning pool soon thereafter. Somewhere in there I send my ovie to the only other spawning place to get a feel of what race BC had drawn, and see what he was up to. I found a terran following a fairly common BO, depot, rax, rax. I saw the flickering lights of the Terran rax, a telltale sign that a marine would be out in short order, so I packed up my ovies stuff and revoked his visa, ordering him home.
I decided to hatch a few lings and research burrow to keep an eye on expansion. I also rushed up to lurker tech. I had about 6 lings, 9 hydras, and 3 lurkers positioned outside his base. I suicided a ling to see what kind of defenses he had and much to my dismay he has 2 tanks already, but no turrents. So I rushed all of my links hoping to distract his tanks, and then moved my lurkers into position. He had lots of comsat energy cause after a few scans, all of my lurkers perished. I moved my remaining 6 hydras into a corner of his base and morphed 3 more into lurkers. While that was going on I got into the air, building both a spire and a nest. I researched spawn broodling and hatched 6 muties and 3 tank-killers (AKA Queens). I also expanded. Taking Ares’s advice, I fortified this expansion in with 3 sunkens and 2 spores.
Ohhh what’s this? The beginnings of a terran expansion? We cant have that. I sent 8 hydras to tank care of that. But alas, a scouting wraith saw my attack and instead of fighting for it, by the time I got there he had canceled construction and ran his scv. That very same wraith found a lonely ovie keeping a vigilant watch over an unclaimed expansion. The wraith attacked my poor ovie, who by this time had a speed upgrade. My ovie led the offending wraith to my squad of hydras, who I left out if the field to squash any expansion attempts. The wraith couldn’t hit the brakes fast enough as my hydras brought the ship down. All the way at the lower right corner of the map another wraith attacked my poor defenseless ovie. This one was not so lucky. He fell to a barrage of Gemini missiles. I see a glimmer of green on my minimap, just above my base. What’s this? A DROP!!
Bummer, he brought 2 drop-ships loaded with 1 tank an scv, and mnm’s. He had started on a bunker and his tank was sieged. I had about 12 hydras and a 5 muties. I rushed all of them forward and went for the tank (Please don’t wonder why I didn’t just use my queens. That’s the moral of this story, USE YOUR QUEENS. I totally forgot about them, which is prolly why Kyro and Ares always beat me, because of mental lapses like that) anyway, as soon as I saw the drop I hatched 9 hydras. I got the tank with my troops, but he still had about 12 mnm’s. I had started morphing 3 lurkers and hatching a batch of lings cause he tend to hatch fairly quickly. Just as his smacked-up marines took out my refinery, my lurkers shattered there eggs with a roar! I moved my lurkers right in my mineral lines and moved my remaining hydras on-top of my lurkers and ordered them to hold position, I send a few lings to lure the marines to their deaths. After the attack was halted, I send an ovie loaded with 2 drones to the corner expands. I also rebuild my refinery and hatched a batch or 2 of drones to replaced the ones who had been mercilessly slaughtered by the evil terran commander.
I hatched a few scourges and suicided them into the terran base. I didn’t notice any air or sci vessels, so I felt confident with continuing to make and upgrade hydras/lurkers/lings. I also noticed that there was a little blip of green at one of the gas and mineral expansions by my burrowed ling. We cant have any terran expansions, that just wont do at all so I ordered 3 lurkers to the expansion and moved them into that expansions mineral lines where they were met with a bunker full of pissed off marines. I retreated them and started a squad of 12 hydras for back up. That expansion fell to the hydra/lurkers with only 1 or 2 casualties on my part.
At this point I had 4 bases 2 running at full speed ahead, and the other 2 were fortified and I was just beginning to reap the rewards of an economy that rivaled the DOW Jones. I could sense that I was starting to pull away majorly, and my opponent must of though the same think, because at this point he conceded a good game and dropped. I am really sorry I didn’t get the stats like Kyro does, I will remember to take some screenshots of the stats screen from now on.
