VeNoM~Sage TERRAN Top
Planetoftheapes (somethig like that) PROTOSS left
I've been practicing with Terran lately. I'm good with Zerg and toss, I've been 1200+ ladder before, but something about Terran just interests me. I choose Terran, he then chooses toss and we're off.
THE BUILD UP
Heavy Metal >:). It just owns. It is probably the funnest Terran strat there is, mines are just cool. This game starts off REALLY weird. His scouting probe enters my base around my 8 control! I figure he must be at the right position and scouted early. Off cannons ae a serious situation here, so I send an SCV to attack the Probe. Probey starts a Pylon, but probey dies =). Unfortunatly I have a pylon near my CC. Anyway, I start walling off my ramp when the probe enters, and finish things off with a rax and a 2nd depot. 3 Zealots come. Marines CAN beat Zealots, it just has to be in the right situation (e.g. Marines behind a protective wall, unable to be hurt). Now I start a Factory, followed quickly by another. I build a Vulture in one and then make machine shops on both of them.
THE EARLY-MID GAME ENCOUNTERS
I get mines and seige tech, and make the tank/vulture combination. Meanwhile, scouting I see he has 2 Gates, a forge, a few cannons and a warping cybercore. What really surprises me is that he is at left! He mustve sent out one of his original probes to scout. I mine the back of my base, my ramp, and a few places between our bases. When I get my first 2 tanks, I see cannons warping in below my ramp. Will these cheezy people ever learn? Seige up and blast em, no damage done by him, hes just behind in minerals. 5 Vultures and 6 tanks is my assault team. Although he went fairly hard with units, mines used correctly will get me a few kills. I meanwhile have started Starport, 3rd factory, and another CC. An ebay is also coming online. I seige up right outside his expansion. Zealots run in, and are killed by mines. A few goons come, and they are turned into quivering piles of blue scum by tankfire. I scan his main, he made a SCOUT. OMFG and I'm not ready for it. Well, 1 scout aint much to worry about. I seige below his cliff, make 2 turrets with an SCV, and start an Armory at home. I also get a convert ops on my science fac, and Maynard transfer about 10 SCVs to my natural. I also send my first sci vessel to my seige position.
CHILDREN, SCOUTS ARE BAD, M'KAY?
I get some goliaths, a 2nd rax for ghosts, and lockdown at home. It is a known fact that 99.9% of people who try offensive cannons and actually make a scout on a land map will try carriers. I scan 6:00. DOH! He has a fully running expansion with 2 stargates and a fleet becon. I will start pushing up to his main once my first 4 Goliaths pop out of the factories, and they do. I send them along with 2 ghosts to my seige on him and start pushing again. Meanwhile, I expand to 3:00 and make another factory and starport. I hate 12:00, BTW, no addon at Natural. Wraiths are coming, and my facts are making a slew of mechanical units. I have him at this point. He attacks my lightly defend 3:00 expansion with 3 Carriers. This is what I hate about Terran. I send Goliaths from my attacking force alng with some ghosts to help out. They take an hour to get there, but I kill the carriers. I scan both islands, nothing. His main is a thing of the past. My push on 6:00 is a thing of the future.
THE FINAL PUSH
I head for his 6:00 Natural. I intercept a group of 6 Carriers on the way there, and lock them down before they can use cliffs to their advantage, which is something my opponent showed skill with throught the game. The Carriers are destroyed. Somewhere around here, he drops my drained out main, and has a DT, Templar and Reaver kills by tanks and mines. Fun fun =). I push up his cliff, and raze his final base. He leaves with a 'gg', something I have grown to respect after playing the "F*ck you, you F*cking suck" ladder players :).
Things to add to the VeNoM~Sage notebook of learning Terran:
-This is not Zerg, micro your troops.
-Carriers are gay (knew that, but it never hurts to remind myself) and Terran doesn't have an easy answer to them.
-Having 8 Facories is fun
-Destroying drops without looking is fun
-I'm still not good with Terran, if I was any other race, this guy wouldn't have given me much of a game, but hell, it was fun.
Please comment me on what I did right and wrong, Terran tips would be EXTREMELY helpful. |
