Introduction

This game came about by sheer chance, and with some great memories. Scrolling in the "Join Games" section, I came across a team game. This is usually a bit...unexciting, I mean how many people make team games on b.net anyways, right? But I then noticed who the creator was: Sexy-Peon, aka Big Loother, aka Culliflower, aka MacFreaked, aka my old buddy I hadn't spoken to for 4 months since our Warcraft2 days. Whew! Needless to say, we were surprised and happy to see each other again.

__________

Sexy-Peon: Kaos...that you?
KaOs[-gF-]: Yup. Whats up, man?

...pause....

Sexy-Peon: Kaos...from Warcraft2?
KaOs[-gF-]: Yeah, good to see you again.

....another pause....

Mike: Who?

_____________

Well, needless to say, the game had begun auspiciously but I was happy to see my old buddy again. :) Still, we had the task ahead of us of taking on three people who had come in, and soon the countdown had begun as I planned out our game dominating strategy...hopefully.

Warping In

I had chosen my fav race, Toss, and began my usual build order (although looking back now, it doesn't really work in team games) of 8 pylon - 9 gate - 10 forge. As I did, Sexy-Peon informed me that he had brought over his dreaded Footman factory over to SC in a new incarnation: the Marine factory. I replied with a most enthusiastic: Kewl.

As my buildings were warping in for the upcoming war, Mike had 6 pooled and was beginning to rush Blue who was at 6 o'clock. His rush failed however, and soon Blue and Teal had rushed back and taken him out with a deadly force of marines and 'lings.

Mike: Damn.
Sexy-Peon: Dammit. He got rushed.
KaOs[-gF-]: A 2x3...just like the good ol' days in WC2 eh?
Sexy-Peon: Hehe.

...Mike was eliminated....

Sexy-Peon: Damn.
KaOs[-gF-]: You can say that again.
Sexy-Peon: Damn. ;)

Building up and defending

With the early loss of Mike, I was enchanted by the precense of Red's small force of Zealots. By now I had 6 cannons protecting my choke, and two gate's pumping out zeal's. His forces were badly beaten down, as I shouted out in victory and Sexy-Peon noted, "Thats some good stuff down there."

I was a bit undecided on what to do now. Being outnumbered I knew we had to hit someone fast to try and even out the odds, but I had little time to make up my mind. I decided to go carriers, and hopefully catch them off guard. Hey, some people like to go all zeal's...who needs goons, right? ;)

A few minutes later, a three man charge appeared towards my choke defense line. Zeal's, 'lings, and marines stomped towards my cannons which were now beginning to charge. As my own zeal's were taken down, my cannons made up for the slack and pounded the invaders who dared take down this protoss encampment. The victory was well-earned, and greeted with hearty congrats from SP, but now my defensive line was heavily damaged and I felt trapped. I hate being defensive, but if they continually triple teamed me, I knew I had little chance to ever go offensive. I told SP that I needed a diversion, and he responded, "I got one right here..."

Stimmed up marine factory

After stopping a firebat drop gone wry, SP sent 30 marines towards Teal's base. I was in awe of the raw number of marines that he had also smartly equipped with stimpacks, but could not stay idle for long. I wiped the tears I had shed for teal, and began the defensive build up again, this time having enough minerals to begin two Stargates. By this time, SP was having fun tearing apart Teal, but I had become suddenly wary.

KaOs[-gF-]: Where's the noise?"
Sexy-Peon: I'm making some noise here! hehe.
KaOs[-gF-]: I wonder what they're up to..

I ordered a lone zeal to explore outside the confines of our base. Although the zeal gave me his assurance that he was glad to find someone to fight, I knew it was a suicide mission, and I was quite right.

I hate being in the middle

My zeal realized the horrible plan that had been concocted by the threesome: middle base. The entire middle area was filled with cannons, and supported with tanks and assorted ground troops from zerg and toss sides. I let out a heavy sigh, as I now knew that carriers would just be a waste of time now. I put up two more gate's and began the endless production of ground troops to somehow break this "threesome" up. I also brought up a few templars for storm, which I undoubtedly knew I would need.

At the same time, SP had been beaten back my Blue's hydra's. SP gave me his thoughts on the game: We're screwed. I agreed, but I told him that we should try to pull off one more assault. He agreed, and then we built up the endless armies we would need to rbeak the threat.

I'd rather be in...

The time had come...oh yes, it was here now. Marines from the north and zeals, goons, and storms from the west. The initial assault went bad, with many of my zeal's going down from the awesome might of the tanks, and cannon fire. A few well-placed storms had taken out the tanks and streamed out a few of the other random ground units. As they scattered in fear of my templars, the marines made a miraculous break through the north. Hydralisks could not hold up to the slack against stimmed out marines, and soon we were assaulting the two nexi lying in the center. As we polished off the center, I grim future began the long trek up towards the middle.

Toss and Zerg heavy reinforcements came in, bringing the ruckus with them. In the face of these odds, perhaps most people would retreat...

Sexy-Peon: bang'em...
KaOs[-gF-]: ...right behind you.

A few minutes passed, and the landscape was littered with the bodies of my fallen armies. I half-heartedly began the build up once more, but now a saving grace had come to end the battle quicker. Cloaked wraiths assaulted my probes, and soon had overwhelmed my base. I gave in, and congratulated the threesome for a good game. SP also did, knowign full well that the game had swung in a 360 degree angle back in their favor.

Final Thoughts

This was a memorable game, and playing it with a friend made it a lot more fun. Things that definitely went wrong was our strategy. Obviously taking out the center was a strategy well worth taking, however, perhaps dropping behind their bases or sneak attacking their mains would have been more effective. All in all, it would have take a lot of micro and macro to win this out, and I just didn't have it. However, in game two we would redeem ourselves...and that was another game in itself :). Thanks for reading.
