I played a couple of good ladder games today and decided
that I'd go ahead and post my (first-ever) BR. I'll be
reporting 2 ladder games on Lost Temple (the first was my
zerg vs. terran, the second was my toss vs. terran). Is it
just me or is terran getting more popular? (this is a good
thing) This is a text-only report being my first outing and
I may have some particulars wrong as actually writing this
report was kind of spur-of-the-moment.

Game 1

Map - Lost Temple (you don't really need a picture do you?)

AngylOfDeath (me!) - Random Zerg
Opponent (ASCII stuff) - Chosen Terran

I spawned at the 12:00 start while the terran got the
choice 3:00 position. I say choice because he can siege the
choke at 12:00 from the high ground, thus supporting the
inevitable tank/infantry push. I wasn't too worried about
any quick rushes out of the terran guy and so I built my
second hatch near the choke by doing the extractor trick.
About the same time, my overlord flew over his base finding
double rax going up at the choke. I quickly flew his blimp
ass out of there and left him near the geyser so I could
see when he started on gas. Meanwhile an SCV started laying
the smack on my choke hatchery. I figured it couldn't do much damage all the way out there so I ignored it and built
three new drones after my overlord popped out. Actually, I
forgot to mention that I built my spawning pool prior to
morphing the overlord. Any way I sent the new guys to
minerals and hatched a pair of lings to deal with that SCV
that was still pounding on my hatchery. That SCV actually
managed to whittle the hatchery hp down to about 800 by the
time my lings showed up (so I guess it did lay the smack
down pretty good for a peon).

At about the same time 2 marines show up and also attack
my poor hatchery (which is just about done now). The two
lings attack the scv but only end up getting themselves
killed by the marines. My creep colony at the choke begins
to morph and I start 2 more zerglings (4 I guess...depending
on how you look at it). Meanwhile I start gas as I intend
to go lurkers. Finally the sunken finishes and the marines
are sent packing, losing one of their number as well as the
SCV. I give chase with my 4 lings and run down the other guy who got stuck in some minerals. 5 more marines along
with another scv come to try and bunker me again. Damn.
More lings are ordered up as I begin morphing a lair. I
start the hydralisk den about 1/3 of the way through or so.
While getting another 8 lings and staying on top of drone
production. I attack while the bunker is being built and
am able to kill the SCV. I lose a bunch of lings but have
stopped the off bunker for now. At this time I start on
lurker tech and build 4 hydra. I send a ling to his natural
to see what he's up to, but the ling dies without seeing much except that the rax at the choke moved back, supposedly
to allow a tank through. There is also a turret at the
choke. So this guy's on top of his game. I decide that I
can run my 4 lurkers past his choke and maybe get some good
kills at his CC. At this time I expand to my natural. I
send about 12 lings and 4 lurkers at him and run into 2
tanks and about 10 m&m. I burrow asap, but only manage to
get some infantry and a tank losing all but 1 lurker. I
decide to use the lurker along with 2 fresh ones to delay the push, knowing that he only has 1 comsat and he's already been forced to use it once. I build drones at my
hatcheries and send them to my natural which comes on-line
soon after. An eng. bay floats over my way and I start
morphing hydra while working on the speed upgrade. I get 6
or so along with 12 lings when the tanks come knocking.
Damn. He must have expanded because 2 of my lurkers are dead
and I don't see any science vessels. He promptly builds a bunker and a turret and sieges one of the tanks. I decide I
might as well attack now and have the lings attack the
seiged tank while the hydra get the other one. I get them
but lose all but 3 hydra. I decide to morph another sunken
at my natural and start mining gas hard. Two more tanks
show up and start ripping on one of my sunkens at my
natural. He also has a tank on his cliff that is owning my
hydra and lings when I kill the tanks to stop the push.

At this point I wonder what the hell I can do,
because sooner or later he's gonna be able to keep me from
raping his tanks and running away. I keep him busy with
lings and the occasional hydra and start a spire in a remote place in my creep. A wraith attacks my overlord that
was hanging out near his base too. At this point another
eng. bay shows up and he starts seiging my sunkens on the
cliff. The 12 or so lings I had decide they want to die and run down the ramp and promptly die to concentrated marine
fire. Meanwhile I'm secreting muta at my base and have about 7 or so. I decide that it's time to spring my trap
and send them towards his mineral line at his main. I tear
down the lone turret at his CC and rape a random marine.
Then I start on his SCVs, killing a bunch before he runs
them, presumably to his natural. I attack his CC and am able to kill it before the marines & medics that were at
my door run back home and force me to run away.

I'm feeling pretty good about this attack when I notice
that my expansion is gone. Damn. Stupid roommate was
sleeping and so I had my sound way low. Didn't even notice.
I think what happened was that at about the same time as I
hit his minerals he was attacking my natural. Since the
siege is over I run a drone to the 9:00 start and begin a
new expansion there. During this time I have expanded my
muta squadron to about 15 or so and hotkey them into two
groups, hoping to do some serious harassment. I send one
group towards his natural and another waits near his main.
I find about 30 SCV crowded around the small cluster of
minerals along with a turret or two. I kill the turrets and
then start working on the SCVs. He has a bunker near his ramp that one of my muta dies to and then about 12-14 m&ms
and a science vessel show up and shoo me away.

I sent the other group during this attack and took out his
academy for fun and almost finished a supply depot before I
had to run. After getting my expansion going, by producing
drones at all my hatcheries and sending them there I start
a queen's nest and hive upgrades, looking for guardians. I
scout out the island expansions and other positions as well
as picking off what I can at his main. I manage to kill a
science vessel before those damn marines and medics show
up again. I also notice that he has started a new command center at his main. At this point I'm pretty sure I'm going
to win as long as I don't slack on unit production. So I
built about 24 lings too, just in case he decides he wants
to push again and upgrade their speed. My greater spire
finishes and I promptly morph 10 guardians leaving about 7
muta. Game's over folks. Well almost. Three valkyries show
up as well as that wraith that killed my overlord before
and rape a few overlords while all my stuff is morphing.
Seeing the valks I decide to let him have his fun and start
a few devourers too. Feeling ballsy I take the 6:00 start
too. The guardians rip into his main and a brief fight between my devourers and muta and his valks ensues. He
leaves without saying a word.

Analysis: The muta definitely surprised him and were able
to keep him from mounting an effective offensive against me.
The muta harrassment was very effective and was able to
remove some key structures as well as forcing him to invest
in more turrets as well as bunkers by his command centers.
His lack of scouting also hurt him as I was able to expand
at will. But, I feel like I was dead if he had just ignored
my muta and attacked my base, seeing as I only had about 7
buildings compared to his 20 or so. This one could have gone
either way.

Game 2

Map - Lost Temple (again)

AngylOfDeath - Random Protoss
Opponent (damn I forgot his name too) - Chosen Terran

Well my rank is 1079 now. I'm feeling pretty good about the
last win and no one in NoHunters is responding to my
incessant appeals for a 2v2. So, I go looking for some
more public ladder fun. I find a game (he's about 108X if I
remember right) and we get it on.

I get toss this time; again at the 12:00 position. Guess
what? Yep, he got the 3:00 too. Now after reading all the
BR of terran vs. protoss and how the toss is always getting
owned I'm a little scared. Toss is typically a pretty strong
ladder race for me and so I decide I'll open with the
standard 2 gateway build (though I was seriously considering
1 gate with a quick cyber for ranged goons). I scout him out
with the probe that built the pylon on 8 (gates on 10 and 11
btw). What's this? No wall-off. Ah double rax with bunker
at CC. Guess he was scared I might have got zerg (I love
random). I send my first zealot towards his base to see what
might be out of range of the bunker that I can beat on. He
runs into 2 marines and we begin a dance that goes on for a
good 3 minutes or so. I send my zealots to his base as they
are produced while teching to dt. With 3 zealots I kill an
SCV who was trying to start a bunker at the choke and he
cancels the bunker. About 5 marines (no meds = tanks) show
up and shoot up the lead zealot. I kill one of the ranged
bastards and run into that damn bunker again. I notice a
factory being built out of range as well as an academy. I
start beating on the factory while marines take potshots at
my bad boys. Two more zealots join the fray bringing me to
4 (one guy died chasing marines around, bastards). He lifts
his factory (in the yellow) to a position closer to his
bunker and busts out with a pair of firebats and a medic.
He promptly smacks down my zealots with his marines as I ran
around chasing his shit. By this time my dt are ready and I
have 2 that are headed straight for his base. Being a moron
I send both in at once and they both die to a single comsat.
I notice that a tank is out and an engineering bay is going
up though.

So I think my zealots threw his build out of whack. I start
on goon range upgrade and take my natural while building a
pair of goons. I think the game would have been over if I
had done this rather than dt, but oh well I won anyway. I
send them to his base to see what's up and start researching
psi storm and adding another gateway. I build probes at my
main nexus and rally them to my natural and have 5 waiting
when my nexus finishes warping in (I keep this up until
they minerals are saturated and then add an assimilator).
My goons die to tank fire and I see him unsieging after my
goons die. So the tank push is finally on. I have about 5
dragoons and 2 templar. I start a robotics facility knowing
that turbo newbie is coming soon too. I think he expands
around this time too. I send my goons and temps out to meet
the terran force and catch them enroute. I lay down a storm
killing a tank and a couple marines, but didn't really get
a great one off due to lag. He high-tails it home with my
(now) 8 goons and templar following. But, the 3:00 ledge owns my stuff as his 2 tanks are able to massacre my goons.
I storm his SCVs at the natural killing a few as well as a
tank before retreating to a position outside. I lost about
4 goons during this "attack". I go back to managing my base getting a reaver and a shuttle as well as 2 dt to stop the
imminent turbo newbie. The shuttle is done first and so I
drop a probe off at the upper left island and begin another
expansion. I also add another robotics facility at this
time. The turbo newbie comes and starts banging on my
probes. I send them back to my main and grab the reaver and 2 dt. Fortunately for me he has no bunker, just 3 marines a
tank and a turret. I drop on top of the tank killing it and
the marines, but losing my shuttle. Two more are queued up
in my robos. I've been producing zealots now and added 2
more gateways, bringing my total to 5. I decide to use my new shuttles to go on a psi raid and land 2 templar at his
cliff above the natural. I storm his minerals killing many
SCV but lost them both when a science vessel showed up,
irradiating one and allowing a tank to snipe the other.

Ah well, it was worth it. I get about 16 zealots or so with
leg enhancements and decide he needs to die. But first I
notice a drop on my island base. This time 3 marines, an
SCV and a tank unload and start killing probes. I grab 4
zealots (btw upgrades are at 3-0-1) and a reaver and
quickly quell the terran threat. I decide a couple cannons
are in order and start a pair on the island in case wraiths
come snooping around. So now I have 20 zealots which I
hot-key and patrol into his choke defense. Unfortunately the
3:00 position owns and I'm taking hits from about 7 tanks
the whole time before running into a pair of bunkers at the
choke. He holds, but loses the bunkers and a pair of tanks.
He tries to expand to the natural at the 9:00 and I drop a
trio of reavers forcing him to lift off. I have another 16
zealots or so again with an additional armor upgrade now.
But this time instead of being gay and losing them all I
drop the reavers on top of the tanks on the cliff and take
the rest of the crap out with the zealots. He leaves soon
after.

Analysis: I suck. This guy should have died in about seven minutes to range-upped goons. I opted for templar instead
because I feel like they're the safer choice, because he
had double rax and I wanted to stop the push before it
started. I was really on top of my pylons and gateways this
game, something I tend to forget as toss. I probably could
have just gone carriers and owned him, but I don't like
carriers. They're nearly as gay as corsairs =P.

Wow, this is kind of long...I hope people don't get too
bored reading it. So tell me what you think. Report-wise
and also strategy-wise. I generally random when I ladder
btw.
