Introduction

This report is a Mark4 Production. www.BattleReports.com is available to support all your reporting needs.

This report is the third of a three game series between Season 3 PGL winner D23-Gadianton and professional gamer [9]Everlast. I was the sole referee as Metalicos, the other referee, had bad lag in relation to Everlast, and elected not to take part in deference to the players wishes. Proving Grounds was randomly selected as the map by the tournament organizer, Hone.

Early Game

Both players waited until the last second to choose zerg as their race. Everlast was blue in the upper right corner and Gadianton was orange in the upper left. Gadianton decided to use a one hatchery to mutas strategy:

Spawning Pool
Extractor
Overlord
Lair
Hatchery

Everlast chose to go with a more flexible strategy:

Hatchery
Overlord
Spawning Pool

This started the builds with Everlast about twenty seconds behind on his spawning pool. Everlast also had the misfortune to send his first overlord to check the bottom right start. Gadianton was more fortunate and checked the upper right with his first overlord. When the overlord reached Everlast’s position, Gadianton realized that his strategy is vulnerable to being overpowered by zerglings, and constructs a creep colony which he makes into a sunken.

Still Pretty Early Game

Everlast sent his first six zerglings over to Gadianton’s base to see if he could cause any trouble. The zerglings dart in, but quickly leave again when the sunken and four of Gadianton’s zerglings kill one of their number. Gadianton realizes it will be very close as to wether he gets overrun by zerglings or produces enough mutas to make a difference first and places another sunken colony next to the first.

Everlast is making zerglings continuously from both his hatcheries and massing them at the choke leading into Gadianton’s base. Gadianton begins morphing two more sunken colonies and his spire is 80% complete when Everlast patrols in one and a half control groups of zerglings, with six more waiting at the choke in reserve. Two sunken colonies and four zerglings defend against the onslaught. Thirteen blue zerglings still attack when the last orange zergling has fallen.

Late Early Game =]

Nine zerglings are left to press the offensive as the first sunken colony falls and Gadianton orders his drones to attack. Seven blue zerglings are on the field of combat as the second sunken falls. Everlast still has not deployed his reserve of six zerglings from the choke. Six orange zerglings spawn from eggs but are brutally cut down as they hatch, killing only three blue zerglings before dying. Two more of Gadianton’s zerglings hatch, but even combined with the drones attacking four of Everlast’s zerglings still remain when the last orange unit has died. Gadianton concedes the match with a “GG”.

Congratulations to both players on a series well played. Everlast is the victor with two victories and will advance to the next round. I had the privilege of conducting a short interview with Everlast after the game which I have posted below.

Thank you for reading my battle report and I hope you enjoyed it.
