The SCV who Could
It was a quiet day on the Lost Temple. Too quiet.
"Private Doogie had been out scouting the terrain as previously ordered, when suddenly he recieved a garbled message from the computer intranet link."...personnel! Repor...base is und...by...erg".
" Doogie was almost 3 kilometers South of his base, but the message sounded urgent. As quickly as possible he hovered back to his base in the northeast sector. When he arrived his heart sunk. The base was in ruins, with only a few remnants left of the former Terran outpost. Suddenly, a voice sounded behind him, and he turned around to see the face of a horribly disfigured marine."The zerg! They... they killed em ALL! GOD WHY!?!??" And with that the marine ran off into the distance.
Doogie was ready to give up hope of survival, when a bright flame caught his eye in the distance. It seemed that one of the supply depots had not been totally destroyed. If he could repair it, then the hominh signal embedded within the structure would give him hope of being found in the case a dropship passed nearby. He ran to the nearby mineral patch and broke off a piece of the crystal. Using it to repair the damanged depot, Doogie fixed the interior and exterior pipes that were causing the fire. In the rubble nearby he noticed a building thruster, and an abandoned comsat station that had once belonged to the command center. Although not standardly used, due to the extra minerals required, Doogie knew that he could attach the thruster to the depot and give it flight capabilties.
Although the colony was decimated, it appeared that the Zerg had lost many of its zergling infantry in the attack. The ground was soaked with the acidic blood of the vile creatures. Scavenging the battlefield for more spoils was a grisly task, but Doogie knew that he needed every single resource available. Among the shredded bodies of his former friends and crew, Doogie managed to attain a gauss rifle, a medical kit, 2 spider mines, and the late commanders thruster remote control.
Doogie knew that he would need better recon, to see where else he might hide until a rescue mission arrived. Suprisingly enough the old comsat station was still operational, and so he began to scan the area. First he scanned the Southwest area he had been heading to earlier. Nothing appeared to be inhabiting that sector. Then Doogie remembered hearing something about 2 small islands at the northwest and southeast sectors of this region. Realizing that it would probably be easiest to make it to the Southwest, he scanned that area, and sure enough a small island with mineral clusters and a vespene geyser appeared on the recon screen.
Suddenly a rumbling sound began to echo from the distance. As it grew louder and louder, Doogie thought it would be a good time to evacuate the base and head for the island. Doogie noticed that it seemed a little darker when he stepped outside. . . but then he realized he was just standing in a shadow! Right over him was a huge overlord, who's eyes stared blankly down upon him. Doogie then turned to the ramp, just in time to witness hundereds of zerglings pouring into the area and heading straight for him!
As quickly as he could, Doogie ran for the supply depot and climbed on top. He hoped the thruster worked, as he pulled out the remote control and gave the command for the depot to lift. It worked! The supply depot began to take flight towards the south island, and soon Doogie was far out of range of the ravenous zerglings. Taking out his gauss rifle, Doogie started opening fire on the defenseless monsters, laughing all the while. His victory was to be short however, as suddenly over the horizon two mutalisks began to chase him and his flying depot! As the zerg flyers began to close in on him, he realized that the rifle would never kill the creatures in time.
Any normal person would have started to say his last prayers, but Doogie had a plan. The projectiles began to slam into the depot, but he managed to dodge the first couple rounds with amazing micromanagement. The mutas began to get even closer to Doogie to make him an easier target. They flew closer, and closer, and closer. . . right where he wanted them. Doogie took one of his spider mines and threw it onto the middle mutalisk, and before it could even react, the mine triggered and splattered him. The other two mutas had their wings clipped by the intense explosion, and plummeted down to the jagged mineral patch below, where they were impaled.
Doogie began to set his eyes back towards the horizon, and kept his course towards the island. Soon enough he would be safe. However, what Doogie did not know, is that a small Protoss colony had been started on the island during his battle with the Zerg. And a shuttle was coming straight at him. . .
