Me: Zerg (top)
Him: Terran (Bottom)
Early game: Needless to say I was really scared of the old tank push that is done so well by Terran on Zerg...so I had to delay this. I was going for lurkers with a hydra drop on the side of the base that is usually lightly defended. I made more drones than normal....because I had to win the mineral war at all costs. If he was going to tank push...he would meet up a lot of lurkers along the way...thus forcing him to tech to SCI-V. This would buy time.
My plans were changed somewhat...when I figured out he was a serious turtle (with an early 6ling rush). He did'nt defend his choke point....but his base was real tight with bunkers inside it...grrrr. I then formulated a 3 wave plan.
Mid Game: (wave #1) Sent two lurkers down to raise some hell. When people turtle in like this....lurkers are the right choice. Through multiple manuvering around...I finished a bunker, supply depot, stopped his gas income and killed a few scv that were mining gas. He was repairing the refinery like mad, but I did'nt care as this would help to deplete his mineral supply (he must have had quite a few scv working on that badboy as my lurkers were really giving it a pounding). This also took away from the scv that were collecting minerals. Plus due to the turtling strat, a poorly placed depot made his scv run the wrong way around the refinery (Right into my lurkers).
wave#2: Time for the Hydra drop. They were totally unupgraded (Due to lazyness on my part)...but I did'nt really care. I dropped them to the right side of his base and took out the dreaded factory, barracks...one bunker and scv before they died and he had to lift his CC. He must have been hurtin at this point, but he never gave up and he said nothing....which scared me. I began to look for expansions.
Late game: Started making mutas and going for guardians. I still had'nt finished his base....I probabily could have but I saw no reason in killing off my Hydra to attack his remaining bunkers. When he lifted the CC...I could'nt find it. I expected an evac...but I was wrong. All the while my mutas flew the map to find no more turtle expansions...whew. I flew in about 12 hydra back to his base to discover his cc had landed and he was mining once again (no gas though). I killed a few SCV with them until a turret started pounding on them. I decided just to pull back. I upgraded to gaurdians and the bombing commenced. I destroyed everything...except for the cc which slowly flew away...I put 3 mutas in charge of bringin that down. He never admitted defeat and even tried to land the cc on the nearby island...it landed and blew up. I think he was pissed because he never even said good game. I tried talkin to him, Oh well.
LESSONS LEARNED:
*Lurkers are the best for the old terran turtle mid game.
*Sending down to Lurkers to trash stuff whitout the chance of them getting killed is a real time buy for you. Even though my lurkers were only destroyong a bunker and depot, I could put focus back on my base resting easy...knowing that I was on the offensive. I could prepare my next attack, without having to manage my lurkers while he had a lurker prob on his hands and had to devote time for that. This move gave me time to prepare the old hydra drop.
*When a guy is down...keep kicking him. This was a guy that would'nt quit...most people would have given up long before the guardians arrived on the scene...and people can get back alive. I kept close watch with my mutas while getting guardians.
*When in battle...keep pumping the troops...don't forget about them. I should have upgraded my hyrdas, but I only needed them to slow him down for the guardians to arrive. |
