BGH Strat of the Day (How to toast your opponent)

Welcome to the fourth installment of my BGH Strat of the day series. To check out previous installments, click here and type Drefsab in the author text box.

Prologue:

One of the oldest forces on Earth is fire. Humans have been using it since the first glimmer of intelligence appeared in our ancestors. However, as more and more humans start to move to BGH land, that glimmer is starting to fade, and with it fades the knowledge of fire. However, I would like to rekindle our flaming friend and show how it can be useful, even in a place like BGH.

The following game is a 1vs1 against ZergKiller85.

The Game:

The game began with me in the bottom middle as terran, and ZergKiller in the middle left as protoss.

Now my strategy for this game was going to be simple, I was going to burn down his entire base.

I sent my scvs to their respective mineral patches and had just started mining when a message flashed across my screen.

"No rush?" ZergKiller asked pitifully.

I sighed.

"No rush," I replied.

Now protoss bases and units are made out of a strange substance. In order to burn it, you need a lot of fire. To do this, I used a build order that was geared directly towards firebat production. I went depot, rax, rax, refinery, depot, academy.

Now the way this build order works is that once you are able to build firebats, you make sure that you have 1 firebat in the queue of each barrack at all times. When you have 8 supply left, you build a depot. If you don't need a depot, all the rax have a firebat building, and you have 150 minerals left over, you build a barracks. When the academy is finished, make sure to research stim.

Using this simple technique, I soon had 6 barracks and 36 firebats ready to toast something.

Now the question was, what would I have to toast? I had sent my 13th scv on a scouting mission and after scouting counterclockwise, discovered his base at the middle left position. My scv discovered that he had expanded to his natural, but there were no cannons for defense.

I grouped up my 36 firebats and asked them, "Wanna burn something?"
Firebats ready to burn

They replied by charging into the protoss expansion.

They met no resistance and within seconds, there was nothing left of the protoss encampment but a smoldering ruin.

My 36 bats were pumped now, and they hadn't even used their stimpacks yet. Bats > GoonsThe momentum was in their favor and they charged towards the protoss main base. Nine dragoons stood blocking their way. I chose that moment to stim. 36 flamethrowers tore into the goons and before you can say Blue Goo, 9 dragoons lay dead in the path.

With the toss defenders lying in a pile of goo, my firebats charged uncontested into Zergkiller's peon line. Before you can say, "barbequed probe on a stick" every single probe got fried.
Bats > Probes

One pylon was supporting 3 of the gates and I quickly destroyed that next before more goon reinforcements could arrive. 3 dragoons popped out of the other 3 gateways and my bats made short work of them.
Everything's on fire now baby!!

After destroying the gateways, I started burning down the Nexus.

ZergKiller was not too pleased with the way this game had turned out.
Oh that's right, my bad

A sickening feeling went through me. ZergKiller was right. I had to agreed not to rush. Obviously, the 36 firebat rush that I had used was totally against the ground rules that we had set up at the beginning of the game.

"I'm very sorry," I said and left the game.

The Scores:

I have more points than him!!

And that my friends, is how you toast an opponent. Nothing like a burning protoss base to make you feel warm and cozy inside.

Thanks for reading, and we'll see you next time on the BGH Strat of the day.

Until then, Happy Huntering,
Drefsab
