Prologue:
Welcome to an encore presentation of the popular BGH strat of the day series...
Ever since the release of Brood War approximately one year ago, there is one protoss unit that has fallen from a once powerful air unit that no protoss player could do without, to a very specialized unit that is only necessary in very rare circumstances. This unit is the scout.
In today's strat, I am going to show you just how effective the Scout can be as a protoss weapon of war.
The following is a 1 versus 1 game I recently played on BGH. My opponent's was DUDG (sounds french to me)
The Game:
I chose protoss as my race and started in the bottom right hand corner of the map. DUDG started in the left middle part of the map. Both of us chose the noble protoss race.
During the early game build-up we had a chance to discuss game etiquette. First, DUDG asked me if there was rushing. I told him that I didn't care.
"Do you have any D?" he asked.
I looked at my base. My build order had consisted of pylon, gate, assimilator, cy core, pylon, stargate, stargate. I had just started work on my first scout when he asked me if I had any defense.
"No," I replied.
"Good," he said, "I'm going for dark templar."
I sighed with relief. No early zealots would rain on my parade.
When I had 3 scouts, I sent them off to scout the map. Because of his dark templar threat, I constructed 3 cannons strategically around my base. I started my air weapons upgrade. I also started work on a 3rd stargate and a fleet beacon.
I found DUDG in the 3rd place that I looked scouting clockwise. My 3 scouts noticed that his peon line was ripe for attack, but there were cannons warping in and a dragoon started to move towards me so I decided to come back when I had saftey in numbers.
"Where are you going?" DUDG asked as I flew out of his base.
When my 3 scouting scouts returned to my main base, there were 6 additional scouts there to greet them. Also, my site range and my weapons upgrade had just completed. I sent a probe out to my natural to begin an expansion since I was consuming a lot of gas, then I sent my 9 scouts out to see what kind of havok they could wreak.
To my pleasant surprise, I found that he had constructed his cannons on the south side of his base, and none of them were in range of his mineral line. I flew past the cannons taking only a couple of shots and then held position over DUDG's mineral line.
Unfortunately for our fine friend Mr. DUDG, his entire mobile anti air defense consisted of 1 dragoon. The rest of his army was invested in zealots, cannons, and dark templar.
The dragoon was quickly popped and then I proceeded to shoot down his nexus.

I knew that DUDG would not take losing his nexus lightly and I was right. A strong counterattack of 1 zealot followed. Luckily my scouts at home were able to handle this threat.

I sent another group of scouts out to his main base bring my total offensive force to 16 scouts. I decided that this force would be suffiecient to take care of his cannons. I focused fire on each one and was able to take out all the cannons without losing a single scout.

This was when the cow poopy really hit the fan. Back at home, my stargate total had reached 5. 1 of my stargates was out of cannon range as well as one of my pylons. When the klaxons started to go off and I saw the red lights blinking in my base, I clicked back to see 6 zealots and 2 blurry objects assaulting my base. My God! How had he gotten that dark templar rush to my base so #$@damned quick. I hurried my 16 scouts back to my base and made short work of the zealots. However due to my lack of mobile detection, I had to wait for the 2 dark templar to come into cannon range before I could blow them away. He lost 6 zealots and 2 dark templar. I lost 1 pylon.
With his only nexus destroyed and his offensive a complete failure, DUDG did what any normal man in his situation would do. He asked me to ally with him. When I refused, he made an offer that I almost couldn't refuse.

However, after pondering for 2 milliseconds, I decided that having a G on the end of my name wouldn't look very good. DrefsabG, I don't think so.
So I sent all my scouts, which now totalled 24 back to his base. As I was razing the now defenseless structures, I realized how he had gotten those 2 dark templar to my base so quickly.

The patented 2 templar archive dark templar rush. I was definitely impressed with my opponents knowledge of the game.
As I was destroying his final pylon, DUDG issued one final threat that sent a shiver of fear down my spine.

I tried to pull my scouts back in time to save the pylon, but it was too late and the plyon exploded. The words, "DUDG has been eliminated" floated across the screen.
I tried to message him after the game, but he wouldn't tell me where his clan channel was. He obviously decided that I wasn't "Upper Case G at the end of your name" clan material.
Final Thoughts:
Well, another day of BGH strategy has come and gone. The power scout build was definitely a success and I suggest that you all try it for hours of BGH fun.
Thanks for reading and stay tuned for future BGH strategy discussion.
Until then, Happy Huntering,
Drefsab
