I_Hate_Medics VS. Trunks-The-Lost

The game started in Nohunters. The well known Spanish Liberator known as I_Hate_Medics was there trying to put an end to the rumors that had been circulating around the StarCraft community. Namely, 'Who inherited the Gonzales Riches?'. I_Hate_Medics had come forth and proclaimed himself the sole heir of the fortune, however, there was a contention. Trunks-The-Lost also believed that he had, in fact, inherited the riches of the Spanish mogul. There was no need to think about how to solve this problem, one only needed to refer to the Pope's own decision on how to end a conflict: StarCraft. The game was created by yours truly and soon filled with eager spectators. After some courteous comments by the others on my lag we began the game. There was no hint of lag, despite the players fears, and I patted myself on the back and ate a Reese's Cup.

Spanish Pride And Spanish Wealth

I_Hate_Medics: White Zerg

Trunks-The-Lost: Purple Toss

Map: Dark Temple ( Templo Sombrio )

With so much at stake, pride and victory, both players go with rather bold build orders. Medics gets a late pool and expands to his natural and puts up a second hatchery in his main all within the first few minutes. Trunks, however, goes for a seemingly deadly double gate build. Medics has four zerglings for defense as Trunks has 3 zealots. It seems that it could all be over, but Trunks holds his zealots at this base and allows Medics to fortify his choke with a sunken and several zerglings.

Here the builds got extravagant to say the least. Medics started another hatchery at the choke of the 12:00 natural even before his own natural expansion had 3 drones on it. Trunks started to make gateways. And he kept making them. And he KEPT making them. He had 5 when Medics started to feign with his zerglings. Medics had taken a control group of zerglings and was going in and out of Trunk's choke, sending in 2 or 3 lings a time to scout Trunk's base. He found that the Protoss had an expansion warping in and several zealots and a cannon guarding his choke. Medics quickly put up a hydralisk den and started to concentrate on Tech and getting his expansions up and running. Trunks had plans as well: build more gateways. His gateway count went to 6 and he also took this time to warp in 2 forges. With only a fledgling expansion to support his spending, he was making a bold statement about his Wealthy Heritage. Both players now entered a phase of teching and massing of sorts. Trunks went for a steady tech to High Templar and Dragoons, all the while upgrading with his 2 forges. Medics adopted a Hydralisk:Zergling:Lurker combo and started on a queens nest.

But one can only hold back his rage so long. Trunks was the first to snap. He started across the board with a sizeable force of goons, zealots, and high templar. They stumbled across a lone scout zergling, and, seeing his peril, Medic scrambled to place 10 or so lurkers in and around his base. Many larvae simultaneously morphed into eggs, contributing to the war effort. The attack came, but Medics' lurkers managed to do the business before Trunks could get his two observers across the board.

The players now entered another period of peace in which Medics expands 3, count em, 3 more times and Trunks builds more gateways bringing him to a grand total of 9. Meanwhile, Medics acts on whim and send around 24 zerglings to harass Trunk's expansion. The attack seems at first to be successful: they met little resistance, a zealot and a cannon. But, this is where 9 gateways actually come in handy. Right when Medics is approaching the expansion nexus and the delicate probes, 9 dragoons appear. Through dancing, Trunks holds off the lings till 9 more dragoons appear. They eliminate the zergling menace and move to the choke. Soon after two more sets of 9 appear and with his 36 dragoons, Trunks sets off once again towards Medic's colony. But not before Medic puts up yet another expansion, this time at the 6:00 natural. Lets count them Main:Natural:Mineral Only Natural:12:00 Choke:12:00 Natural:12:00Main:2 Extra in Main:6:00Natural: That brings us to 9 total hatcheries. He now matches Trunks in troop making facilities, but can he put them to good use? We shall see. Trunks moves his dragoons in for the kill, and, having observers, it seems that Medics will be hard pressed to defend this attack.

Medics does manage to fend the attack off with the help of Queens and some fancy hydra dancing. Trunks, knowing that Medics could seriously damage him with a counterattack has been producing troops this whole time and he already has a nice little army waiting at his base. He refuses to admit his depleted bank accounts in the open, but he does send a shuttle off to the top left corner to start a nice little expansion. Medics does counterattack after the last dragoon falls and he sends off many hydralisks and zerglings coming from all of his hatcheries. He manages to destroy a new nexus at Trunk's mineral only expansion( another discreet 'investment' ) and starts to move in for the kill. Trunks meet him with his base army, however, and a battle ensues. Trunks pulls ahead in the battle and Medics' forces are destroyed. I did get this good screenshot, however.

How nifty is that? Anyway, Medics makes another tactical decision. What should his next move be? Build another hatchery of course! He morphs this one by his lone 6:00 hatch. Trunks is now concentrating on his expansion and has but a meager force of zealots and goons at his choke for defense. Medics sends 4 queens to the ledge by Trunks' expansion and they discover that Trunks has realized his weakness of defense. He now has several HTs and 3 archons. A few quick 'Spawn Broodling's and Trunks' force was effectively diminished. Medics comes in with a large group of hydralisks this time and attacks the remaining archons. The hydras do good damage but are thwarted by a new foe. Dark Templar. The DTs manage to kill all of the hydras before one of Medics' Overlords shows up. Plague is cast and 12 lings engage the dying DTs, but to no avail. Wave after wave of DT is pumped from the gateways and they move off in search of blood. Trunks finds Medic's 6:00 expansion and makes quick work of the 3 defending sunkens despite OL presence, they move down to the natural and find another of Medics hatcheries and that too, is destroyed.

The DTs, despite their successful attacks, cannot save Trunks. Medics had taken this time to launch a full scale attack on Trunks' main. Hydras and zerglings spilled from countless hotkeyed hatcheries and soon the Protoss base defense was overwhelmed. Even as the DTs hacked at Medics main, their home base was being ripped apart. Trunks saw he had no chance of turning the tides and quietly, but honorably, withdrew from the game. Medics had proven himself as the true heir to the Gonzales Fortune. Trunks spent masses on buildings and units, but Medics, Medics had built a Bajillion Hatcheries. We all were invited to a Fiesta of true class, with Tequilla and Spanish Dancers for everyone. GGs were exchanged and we all left, never to forget our Latin experience.
