ended up playing some guy called ~~iridesc288ence~~. weird name, good player. we went through the usual pre-game smack talking, then settled down to the game. he chose zerg, i chose protoss. i'm not really good with em, i just like em.
a slight disagreement ensued as to which map we would play, and it ended up being once-lost-but-now-extremely-popular Temple. i don't think anyone needs to see it....~~iridesc288ence~~ (irid for future reference) was at 9 oclock, i was at 3 oclock.
i began with a normal 4 gate, going light on the zealots and hard on the resources. i d-temp rush a lot of the time, but i'm open to whatever-the-heck comes into my head. i decided to go d-temps and reavers.
one of my probes went for its secondary programming and began scouting, first to 12 oclock, then counter-clockwise around the map. upon reaching the 9 oclock platform he was ruthlessly murdered by an adventurous bunch of zerglings. swearing revenge for the little robot, i sent out my first expansion group, heading for the ready-made spot south of the plateau.
about this time i began wondering what in Aiur was keeping irid. i sent a zealot to find out, and met a roving band of lurkers. figures. i hastily drew my defenders into a cluster near my photons, preparing for a nice little fracas....
and so it proved to be. the sallying zealots and dragoons managed to kill off the offending control group of lurkers, though they were a little pissed because many of their comrades had fallen as well.
enter my d-temps and reavers. i placed a group of six d-temps at the exit to irid's ramp, eliminating any further suprises from outbound troops. the reavers i brought around in their shuttles to the probe line, where i began the work of killing off irid's drones, keeping the reavers from most of the potential harm by persistent micro in and out of the shuttles. this was all well and good, except for the fact that i had missed seeing a mutating spire en route to the drone line. this i regretted quickly as my entire force of shuttles quickly fell to the rescuing mutes. at this point i decided that upping my production of high temps would be wise....
scouting zealots found the obvious expansion for the 9 oclock starting location and another forming at the 12 oclock. determined not to lose the resource battle, i rushed my d-temps to the undefended 12 oclock expansion, rejoicing at my opponent's stupidity.
at this point several things happened at once. my forces laid into the 12 oclock expansion, beginning the tedious ripping work with a will. a veritable horde of mutes charges my main, and were met with the full fury of psionic storm, falling quickly. two control groups of hydras made a diversionary assault on my expansion drawing forces away from my main. my warping stargates finished, and my forces in the middle were assaulted by lurkers.
nearly overwhelmed by my opponents multiple attack points, i began to doubt his ability to defend himself and attack at the same time. thus it was that my d-temps advanced on a completely undefended main. they tore into it with a will.
the mutes dispatched, i drew the rest of the defenders down to complete the destruction of the diversionary hydras. i then sent them out to the middle of the map to deal with the lurkers, who had caused my forces to retreat from the center position. my newly embarked forces were aided by observers, fresh from the robotics. they flushed out the lurkers and quickly delt death blows. the d-temps, by this time, had overwhelmed the defending sunkens, depite their loss of invisibility due to overlords.
after offering a few choice words to me, irid admits defeat. i smile inwardly, though it wasn't much of a win. hey, i'll take em where they come |
