Science affects our lives daily. It makes chocolate just the right sweetness, beer just the right strength. It makes the world go 'round and our cars go "Vroom!" Science cannot be avoided and is, for the most part, benevolant (good). However, Science can take sides as I shall present to you in this epic battle between Upgraded_Probe and WaCk_ZeAlOt(DA).
Our good friend Upgraded_Probe was "lucky" enough to draw 12 o'clock Terran in this epic struggle for, yes, you guessed it, The Lost Temple. The area contained many mineral-rich deposits and countless geysers and would benefit the Terran Confederacy greatly. Not only could they establish a fortress and Science Facilities to create new weaponry, but countless resource nodes were littered all over the playground.
However, the area would not come easily. The technologically advanced Protoss race had also established a soon-to-be fortress in the Lost Temple region also, at the 6 o'clock position. Their Praetor was none other than Wack_Zealot(DA). Could he lead the technologically-advanced Protoss race to victory? Only time - err, Science - would tell.
As par the usual, both opponents chose to construct an additional worker and send the four workers immediately to mine the precious minerals. The minerals, rich in material value, would be later used to construct many structures and Refineries. Not only would the minerals fuel both race's war machine, it would also assist in the technological evolution of their species. In order to annihilate the other, they would need these material-rich minerals to construct warriors and structures.
Upgraded_Probe's brain instructed him on impulse to create a Supply Depot on 7. Wack_Zealot(DA) countered this with a pylon on 7. Upgraded_Probe continued making SCV's in order to gain a material advantage which could lead to his victory. He followed up with an 11 Barracks and a 12 Barracks. It appeared to be a good 'ol Marine Medic rush, but versus a Protoss? This didn't seem like a good tactical decision which could lead to the extermination of the Terran outpost in the Lost Temple region.
Wack_Zealot(DA)'s brain had been instructing his establishment to perform certain tasks, too. Following his 7 Pylon he made a 10 Gateway followed by a 12 Gateway which he tactfully cancelled after Deon the Supa Peon left his base. Deon had recently been dispatched and checked the 3 spot before proceeding to the next logical position, 6. Wack_Zealot(DA) then added another Pylon to his growing psionic enterprise.
Upgraded_Probe then adds a 16 Academy to allow production of lethal Firebats and Healthy Medics. Upgraded_Probe also begins gas on 17. Wack_Zealot(DS) begins construction of a Cybernetics Core and soon follows it up with a Citadel of Adun then Templar Archives to produce Dark Templar. This is a quick jump in the technology tree and could give him the lead he needs to contain/kill Upgraded_Probe's currently detector-less base.
Upgraded_Probe's dual Barracks'es have been pumping for about two minutes and have produced two Firebats four Marines and two Medics. The Terran forces depart from the saftey of "home base" and depart on an expedition to learn about the enemy and how they function and to possibly do some damage.
Wack_Zealot(DA)'s Templar Archives just finishes warping in at his choke point when the Terran infantry attack hits.
Set back but not doomed, Wack_Zealot(DA) holds off the attack with two Dark Templar that wared while the functioning Templar Archives was being dismantled. A quick counterattack attempt fails, for Probe has som good anti-DT defense, a good strong choke and about 5 Turrets scattered over his main.
Wack_Zealot(DA) has just added a third gate to his arsenal and Upgraded_Probe adds another Factory to his existing two Barracks'es, single Factory, with a StarPort and a second Factory producing. And he hasn't even expanded, oh my!
Upgraded_Probe sends Marines to each expansion spot to prevent construction of naked expansions. His Marines however, quickly fall to the wrath of Wack_Zealot(DA)'s berserker-raging Zealots. Looks like it's back to the single Comsat for Upgraded_Probe. This really is a disadvantage because Upgraded_Probe's Starport just finished and his Science Facility, the most technological of all Terran structures is not yet completed.
Upgraded_Probe now expands, 1, no 2, now 3 times instaneously! I had been wondering when he was going to perform this duty because his main was running low on material value. New deposits were found at his natural, hidden mineral natural, and top left island. This could give him a fighting chance compared to Wack_Zealot(DA) who just began a Nexus at his mineral natural.
Upgraded_Probe still hasn't landed a major offensive. He decides the power of Science and Technology is currently on his side and commences an attack. It consists of Siege Tanks and Marines, as well as Medics. Before Science forces me to tell you how the battle went, let's view their upgrades in this nearly battle-less battle report.
On to the battle.. let pictures speak for me.
...And the Terran forces engaged the psionic Protoss warriors in the region of the Lost Temple. Arclite Siege fire echoed throughout the extravagant landscape. Marines stimmed left and right as Medics hurredly bustled about healing the wounded. Dragoon plasma fire erupted from the center of their metallic entities a plethora of times. The psionic blades of the Zealot slashed through the Marine armor like butter. But a victor had to be established...
Wack_Zealot(DA) now adds two Forges to his existing one in order to upgrade his already impressive weaponry to deadlier states through processes of fusion and replication. A 3/3/3 rush seems to be in order. He also constructs a Stargate followed by a Fleet "Bacon" and Disruption Web research goes underway directly.
Upgraded_Probe has been using his growing income source to fuel new Factories and Barracks'es. He has a massive perimeter defense. Around 6 Tanks and dozens of light infantry units compose his defense. A Turret or three also line the sidelines.
Wack_Zealot(DA)'s master plan comes into action. With his eight (8) "Gay"teways pumping troops he is able to amass an army of Dragoons and Zealots along with an occasional Templar. Before the tactical strike on Upgraded_Probe's main, he takes out the mineral natural swiftly but surely.
Upgraded_Probe immediately deplys two Siege tanks on his ridge to dispatch the threat but it is far too late. It appears although a large battle is about to be played. This could be a "make or break" assault. However, Wack_Zealot(DA) is armed with D-Web which could turn the tables of Science - err, victory - in his favour.
The sound of Disruption Web pierced the Marine's ears. He sensed an imminent attack as the local Siege Tanks were ordered to Siege up. The looming Protoss army loomed high above him. His first target was a Zealot who went down quickly thanks to the still-functioning Siege tanks. Then he saw the ever-luminescent shadow of a High Templar. It was really quite beautiful, such a pure psionic being. He then began to fear it. Then came lightning, then dark...
The Protoss Praetor closed his weary eyes. After 31:28 the Lost Temple had been reclaimed for the psionic enterprise of the Protoss. It would aid their race in evolving technologically and hinder the progress of the Zerg and the Terran. An encampment was quickly established, but he knew another attack would come. Sometime...
