The Battle Has Begun

It all started on a Sunday night after I got done watching Addity-X beat down upon -=Krone=-. The game was alright, except for the fact that Addity completely dominated.

Anyway, I came out of the game and saw Mark4 sitting in Nohunters. I say hi and he tells me to go meet him in a different channel. I go there and sit for a few seconds while I wonder why Mark isn't responding to me. Well, he finally says something along the lines of that he is getting Arkons to play someone for our enjoyment...hmm...Cool?

Yeah! I get to watch a game that I don't have to beg for. Anyway, Arkons comes in quickly followed by Gen~Khalsa. If no one knows, Gen~Khalsa recently took 3rd place in the i2e2 in New York and is a top Kali player. I am sure most of you know who Arkons is due to the fact that he was in the last Mark4 report. For those who don't, he is known and loved by all and hs made a name for himself in many different games and frequently posts on tao-of-gaming. They quickly start the game up due to the fact that Khalsa has to go soon and they chose The Lost Temple for their battlegrounds. They both go random as the game clock ticks down.

Here we go!!

As Mark4 and I enter the battlefield we are greeted by one protoss player, Khalsa, starting in the left position, and the terran player, Arkons, starting in the top position. Each player starts off with building their supply buildings first with Arkons electing to build his at his ramp to signify a wall-in. After Khalsa's probe begins to warp in the pylon it takes off counter-clockwise to scout finding Arkons in the first place it looks. Khalsa tries to harass the scv building the depot, but runs it away as another one of the mechanical beasts comes to help destroy the little bugger. Knowing Arkons race, Khalsa starts construction of one gateway...wait, he stopped building it. OMG!!!! He is going for a double nexus probe rush...err...yeah. Well, he starts a nexus and pylon at his natural with a forge inside his main. Let's see if this gamble will pay off.

Arkons decides to go heavy metal at the site of the protoss probe and gets two factories a.s.a.p. When Arkons scouts his enemy and finds the warping expansion he is pleased, to say the least. He takes the forces he has at home and brings them to the mineral natural of Khalsa. The force consists of 4 vultures and 2 tanks with another 2 on the way. He sieges the force just outside of the lone photon cannon there and takes it away using the superior range of the tanks and soon starts base demolition. The natural falls easily as Khalsa does not take the zealots he has to try to defend it. Khalsa only had a couple zealots, so any effort to try to stop this probably would have been futile.

The Natural Did Not Die in Vain

The natural nexus was up and running with some maynarded (that isn't a word, is it?) probes for a little while before it was taken down and Khalsa was able to tech to templars and get shuttles. Not to mention the 5 gates he had in his main.

Arkons was not idle at this time either and had a contingent of tanks outside of Khalsa's front door while building an academy, engineering bay, and starport at home.

Khalsa knew that he had to do something to even up the game and took the 4 zealots he had in his main in his new shuttle. He took off for Arkons main and dropped them on the lower left edge of Arkons' main. The zealots went uncontested to the scv line and reeked havoc there for awhile. Mark and I were extremely surprised that Arkons wasn't doing anything. Uh oh, where did all the scv's go??
This attack hurt Arkons economy pretty bad but wasn't game ending, especially when he still has all his force knocking on Khalsa's door. Arkons used tanks on the low ground to help support the tanks and vultures on Khalsa's plateau. Arkons put a bunker and 2 missle turrets there too to add some more strength to the push.

Well, when Khalsa's shuttle came back home, Khalsa had 3 dts and 1 zealot ready to go for another trip across the land. He took those forces and went the roundabout way this time crossing the middle and landing his forces on the leftside of Arkons main. Khalsa also dropped one dt at Arkons' natural to take out the scv building the command center there. The strike force that Khalsa dispatched easily took out the firebats and vulture offering resistance and headed straight for the comsat in an effort to take it out.
The effort to take out the comsat was unsuccessful due to the many, many scv's repairing it. Khalsa was able to kill some SCV though after he targeted them instead of the comsat. Arkons was able to quell the threat with some new tanks. He then chased the last dt around until it went into the range of a turret and a bunker at the ramp killed it.

Will Arkons do something???

I think Arkons thought enough was enough. He took his containment force and moved it closer to Khalsa's main.
He also took the vultures that he had and went behind the mineral line of Khalsa, but the goons, dts, and zealots that he had scared them away.
I guess Khalsa figured he had enough of Arkons constant annyonce. After the tanks started pounding on his outer most gateways, Khalsa attacked. I thought that this attack was going to fail, escpecially with the supporting tanks on the ground below, but Khalsa took out everything on his plateau, with a couple dark templars and zealots remaining!! The tide of the game immediately turned around. I went from being almost 100% sure that Arkons would win, to being extremely weary of his chances. Arkons never expanded during the containment period, but Khalsa was now warping in a new base at 6 and the 6 natural!! He was able to sneak a couple probes out with his shuttle. Arkons quickly finds these expansions, but was only able to harass with 2 wraiths which quickly left when a few cannons warped in. Arkons finally expanded to his natural. With these turns of events, Arkons could only say one thing...

Who will win??

Khalsa started his macroing by adding 2 gates to the bottom start and a couple more in his main. He concentrated on building zealots, dark templars, more dark templars, and oh yeah, more dark templars. He added the odd goon and templar every now and then. He also re-expanded to his natural and sent a templar and probe to the southeast isle.
His moment of peace was about to be abruptly cut short, though, as Arkons took some of his troops to outside the bottom start's natural. He also tried to cliff seige the natural, but a goon and zealot scared the dropship off for now. Outside of the bottom start's natural he constructed a bunker and turret, and placed his tanks around that. Khalsa showed his unique psi-storming skills now as he stormed the...bunker twice?? Mark give his revelation about what Khalsa just did as you can see Arkons second push. Well, Arkons was able to just dominate and destroy the bottom start's natural. He ran it over with goliaths, tanks, and vultures. He was also able to take the cliff too when he dropped the tanks behind the cliff to take out the goon and zealot, then dropped on top of it. An archon and 2 zealots were able to destroy the two tanks though. As any good player, though, Khalsa remained calm, and expaned to the southeast island. Arkons tried to push up the ramp, but was denied due to zealots and templars. Arkons took what remained of his forces and retreated back home.

Can Khalsa finish the Comeback?

Khalsa knew he had the advantage. He continued to macro out of the gates he had, still concentrating on zealots and dark templars, and also expanded to his mineral only. Arkons was in a corner and he knew it. Or did he? His natural was almost out of minerals and it didn't look like he was ready to expand anytime soon. He had one last chance before Khalsa hit the overload button, so Arkons moved all his forces to the middle of the map...where they met up with Khalsa's. A battle ensued, but it looked like Khalsa was getting the advantage. Arkons, knowing he would later need those forces to help get an expansion, retreated all that he had left.

The End Game

Was it over for Arkons? Khalsa had a large assortment of mixed troops stationed in the middle with another expansion starting on the northwest island. All Arkons had was the units guarding his main. Well, Arkons knew he had to get a new mining site to even be given a chance. He started the slow, methodical, push to the right start's mineral only expansion. He sets up shop there and starts building a C.C. Before he can even finish, Khalsa hits the over-run button and knocks Arkons out of the game.

I want to thank Khalsa and Arkons for letting me watch this terrific game. Sorry, this report took so long, but with school and work and all...nevermind, I just procrastinate. I hope everyone enjoys the report. Anyway, good game played by everyone.
