Well... it's been months since I last made a report, but I just departed from a interesting game. I had quit playing SC for a long time, and allowed a friend to borrow my BW CD. Today however, I was rather bored, and decided to go on B.net... Vanilla.

Well, the average Vanilla player sucks, and its for obvious reasons. If they're playing regular SC they're probably very new to the game, don't play it that much, or don't even care about most computer games in general. However if you hitch into the ladder games, the average skill level drastically increases.

I went into one of these... ladder games.
Game Name: FFA, all welcome!!!
Game Map: Polaris Prime
Players: (well i dunno they're names... but)
Blue-Toss
Brown-Zerg
Orange-Protoss
and me Red-Zerg

All the other players chose they're race, as most people do on a game with ladder implications. I however stayed vigilant in my randomness and drew Zerg. It was quite depressing when I discovered this. I despise playing Zerg in FFAs with more than 3 people. The problem is, you usually wind up filled with money, and at your supply limit. With Terran you can nuke... battlecruisers... and with Protoss you can use Carriers and Arbiters with recall. However with Zerg your options of extreme late game shtick usually revolve around defilers, guardians, cracklings, and hydras. With drops or some such involved. Its even worse on islands too. Because with Zerg i'll usually wind up with little to no gas all game, and zerglings dont do much to fight the high tech units.

Regardless of all that bull, I wound up in the 3 o clock position. With blue protoss two islands above me. The other two, brown and orange, were on the other side of the map, and don't contact me for a very long time.

When I scout blue, I notice hes building cannons around his whole edge, getting 2 gates, and not much tech. I decided to muta rush him out of two hatcheries. It winds up failing, but I don't lose any units. He has finished his fortification. I expand to the isolated island, that is a start spot, two islands below me. There I don't have to worry about any large land attacks easily hitting me. I've also begun my attempt to contain blue for the time being. There has been no contact with either orange or brown yet, and I can only assume and hope they are fighting each other hard.

Eventually I take the third expansion, between my starting place and my previous expansion. I get queens, and hive, and all other zerg tech, while steadily upgrading everything and maintaining a large army of mutalisks, hydralisks, and zerglings.

Now blue has not even attempted to expand yet. He's harrassed me with scouts, and thats the extent of his action. I decide to not even bother him, with the exception of containment, and send my queens out to parasite the enemy. I come into a couple clashes with the other zerg and see he has created a gross amount of spore colonies at the edge of his original platform. I attempt to Nydus Canal him, but to no avail as he kills it with his mutalisks, but I in retun kill those mutas. Then screaming sounds invade his base.... its the protoss with a nice fleet of carriers and an arbiter. My mutas briefly clash with him, but retreat immediately. I parasite his carriers and arbiter so as to watch him destroy the other zerg. Well this makes me sort of happy. I already have the defilers and such ready.

Quickly the game chimes in to tell me that the other zerg has been elminated. That zerg's parting comment is a compliment to orange's massive skill. Now the carrier loving protoss turns towards me. He tries to strike my original expansion, and successfully knocks out my nydus canal before i notice. He lays every building to waste there, but I burrow all my drones and hydras positioned at that expansion. He moves on to my second expansion, but i have defilers there, which plague his carriers, dark swarm the ground, and burrow. My hydras cannot kill his carriers, but the mutalisk/scourge reinforcements do.

Now Orange and I beging to constantly trade blows. I rebuild my original expansion and build a 3rd expansion at the very southern middle site. That site gets trashed a couple of times, another carrier fleet goes down, and I even strike at Orange's only expansion only to find it has been mined out. At this point... blue who has done and said nothing the whole game mysteriously leaves. I even check his base to find a gazillion cannons and twenty or so dragoons, but not a single shuttle or robotics facility.

Orange now expands again to the very northern center site. This will be key as I know if I can hold him to only having used two mineral/gas sites I can easily beat him. He gets a little wiser, taking a liking to storm all of a sudden, and I try to counter with broodlings. Several times I send an attack force right outside of the expansion, but he picks some mutas, hydras, zerglings, or defilers off when they're seperated. It pissed me off, and I send in overlords to try to find his observers which must be charting my progress to his base. I also need those lords to spot his arbiter cloaking. He then quickly has another carrier fleet, and is able to kill my newest expansion with carriers, and recalled dragoons. I dont sweat it much, burrowing the drones there, and I have about 3000 minerals, and gas coming in from 3 depleted geysers.

Now I'm not finding the observers... and I get a little suspicious, which is normal in any ladder game you are losing. But my suspicions are settled when I send a tiny force of 6 hydras and about 8 scourge to his expansion in an attempt to kill some previously plagued carriers. I burrow the hydras while waiting for the scourge to arrive. When they do, I notice a templar, which is being spotted by a parasite within an arbiter, walking towards the scourge. I move the overlord around there to search for an observer, and find none. He psistorms right on the scourge and kills all of them. I wait about five seconds, uburrowed 4 of my hydralisks... and a few seconds later i see the carriers coming at them. When the hydras start taking shots I burrow them... and lo and behold the carriers stop shooting completely!

I immediately ask the guy if he is map hacking, and get no response. I know he is not korean or some such, because his name had english letters and he talked quite a bit of english in the chat room before the game. The game wears on silenly, he's able to succesfully contain me, and I knock his nexus at the expansion down only once. I know the game is lossed... and in my bitter rage, I spout off quite a bit of accusations and evidence of his cheating. Well, he responds eventually. He states that I was teamed with brown zerg. Which is totally ridiculous... and he makes many other comments, none of them stating whether or not he map hacked.

Well I take the loss with a bitter taste in my mouth. I suddenly remember why I stopped playing starcraft, and allowed a friend to borrow my brood war cd.

Well most people do lessons here. I suppose I should do the same? Lessons... well here goes.

-The bullshit piles up so fast in Battle.net you need wings to stay above it.
(now what movie is that a spin from?)
(and the title whats that from?)
