The Battleground was Fierce Ocean Combat. A much underplayed map in my opinion. It allows
up to 8 players to battle it out on the high seas. there are 8 islands. L1 through R4 going down
the respective sides of the map. I (Silk) started out as Blue orc on island L3. RAM_RALOP started Orange
orc on L4. |
I started out with plans on holding the sea, not letting him expand or get oil.
I started with a farm, mill, farm, shipyard, foundry, rig, then another yard. my peon order was:
1:farm then mill. 2:repair mill 3:Build farms the rest of game 4:shipyard 5:gold
Then I had the 3rd peon repair my yard and then threw some more on gold and a lot more on lumber.

I then started pumping juggs as fast as I could. I still hadn't found RAM_RALOP with my scouting
tanker. just as i was about to recheck everything, my tanker ran close to L4 and I caught a glimpse of
an orange farm.i sent 4 of my 6 juggs down there (i did this just in case he had sent his own ships around my isle,
probably not the smartest thing to do, but i am confident of my superior ship control skills). When i get there
i realize he teched to subs quick, but had JUST started to get them, so he only had 1. he sent that up to harass
my shipyards, but i had those other juggs up there. when he started attacking, i made my jugg "attack ground"
and it easily killed the sub. i then had enough resources built up and went hold to get fliers and eliminate
the threat from under the waves. another sub popped out and once again i attacked ground and got the sub. (the wise thing
for RAM_RALOP to do wobrd have been to move his sub right after it attacked so that
i couldnt pinpoint where it was going to be next. i brought my other 2 juggs down and went around the opposite side of the island
and saw him making another yard there. i quickly killed that and moved onto his foundry. by now i had fliers up
and was going for an expansion on L1.
At this point, i had resources flowing nicely and started on my fort after throwing up my mound. Meanwhile,
RAM_RALOP had teched to DK's and d&d and went about dk'ing my juggs so he could get off his island.
I sacrificed my juggs to take out 1 more yard so that i had time to get lust and build my army. i created a few destroyers to chase
down any trannies he got out. i finally had teched to lust and he had finally gotten a tranny. he dropped 5 ogres and
1 sap on my main. i had a flier between the isles however and saw him coming so i had enough time to lust up my own lvl 6 ogres
and easily repell this attack.
I took this opportunity to expand to L2.
at this point, RAM_RALOP had little to no resources, no expansion and no chance at
owning the sea, so he called gg and that was the end.
 |
A few notes: My build order was for sea only and I had absolutely no land defense up until I went hold, 4-5 grunts would have owned me, it's usually good to get a walled tower, but I didn't want to waste resources.
RAM_RALOP could have had much better sub control by moving them after they attacked so that my attack ground command would have been useless. This way, he could have kept his trannys and landed enough lusted ogres on my to kill me easily
Recon is the most important part of the game. If you can see everything, you can counter everything.
I made sure to expand before I ran out of resources and had to let up the pressure on RAM so I could expand. This way, it gave RAM no easy way to retaliate.
