Sorry guys :(
The day began when I was surfing b.net trying to find a game of 2v2. I found exactly what I was seeking in NoHunters, but alas, there were 5 players wanting to play. I cheerfully piped up that I would obs. The teams were decided in the good old fashion, top vs. bottom :) Purple {t4r}kronosIII and yellow Mercurios vs. white nosegobling and teal ErroR15
THE PLAYERS
White started top left with terran, in about the 11 o' clock position. His ally, teal, started top right, in the 1 o'clock position, and warped in the nexus of the Protoss. Purp started in midright at about the 4 o'clock, also as terran, with yellow zerg directly below him.
Teal began with a pylon/gateway/assimilator/core build, lookin for a dt rush.
White began to do a standard terran wall at his ramp, but then surprised my by making another barracks.
Purple did built a barracks, then refinery, THEN a depot, and continued on to factories and heavy metal.
Yellow built a hatchery at his main, followed closely by a pool and an extractor. Again, another surprise, as he started to build several sunkens guarding his ramp.
THE BATTLE
Initial scouting forays by both teal and white turned up "a slow ass terran" and my roaming scv. Deciding to take out the zerg first and foremost, since purp was teching, teal and white converged in the middle. The forces including a squad of marines and a couple zealots respectively. The army then began the march down the middle of the map, toasting a couple vultures along the way. The men were fought off though, by a 3 sunkens and a lot of zerglings, with minimal losses to yellow.
Back at home, teal was indeed going for dark templar. He had added a third gateway by the time his archives was done. White had added yet another barracks, and started teching to wraiths. Purple finally had 2 factories up, and instead of building units, he expanded to the middle. Yellow began the process of mutas, which with he hoped to turn the tide.
Yellow sent a small force of zerglings at teal, in hopes to catch him unawares, but teal had dts out and waiting. Needless to say the lings were slaughtered.
The next thing of note was I ran my scv into one of purple's many mines he had laid around his expansion. I got this neat pic of it exploding, but I can't put it on. Oh well.
Not wanting to be left out for too long, white took a handful of marines and medics down the middle again, this time running into purp's expansion attempt and the vultures guarding it. Needless to say, the vultures were overrun by the superior forces of white.
White and teal again decided to double team the zerg, this time with dts instead of zealots. The marines got there first instead of the dts, and they were slaughtered, but also managed to get in the way of teal dts while they were at it :) This battle brought up an interesting combination: d. templar and medics. The combination didn't work against yellow's many sunkens though. Sunkens > medics.
About this time yellow's spire finished warping and he expanded to the bottom left main.
The remains of the force attacking yellow, consisting of about 3 dts and a few marines, pulled back, and instead hit purple. He was completely unprepared for the devastation dts wreak upon hapless marines, and his base was smashed. For some reason, the only thing he lifted off was his cc. Not his rax, and neither of his factories went with it. At this point purp was pretty much out of the game.
Yellow was not remaining idle during this time though. He had completed a force of mutas, and sent them to ravage teal. At this point, teal was just beginning to build cannons, and had no other anti air available. Had he not teched so hard to dts, the mutas would have easily been vanquished. Instead, the mutas owned the protoss buildings until a force of about 6 wraiths showed up. The mutas get owned by the cloaked wraiths. Yellow quickly retreated them back to his base. He would not sit idle for long though, and quickly resent his mutas back to teal's base, this time with ovie support. In an interesting display of micro, yellow kept dancing his mutas back and forth between white and teal, staying one step ahead of the marines tracking the flying beasts. Teal was pretty much out of it too, but he had a single pylon and 6 dark temlar still remaining.
Medic backed dts try again, but the result was the same: dead dts, live zerg. Yellow must've got really pissed, cause he launched a massive counter attack, and pretty much killed white.
A round of gg's were exchanged, and "rematch" was heard. Kronos had to go though, so there was no "rematch."
Lessons learned:
Mutas > missile Towers
Micro > macro
Sunken colonies > dts
And the number one lesson learned: Don't trust the observer :) |
