Here's the mofo in it's entirety:
I was wondering why Fox^1 was made a rater, ( maybe he begged long enough hehe) so i wanted to see what reports he had made, quite a few in fact, so I read the report with the highest rating, and it was games of zvt and zvp vs Mark4 & JV too! so I go bout reading them and hey man, those reports were good, and Fox^1
Just wanted to say to Fox^1 that , I have also been having problems figuring out the game play for zvt cause I am also 50-50 lately in that match up vs good players. In those zvt games, it seems like hydra or lurker dropping works best if u didnt expand early as I saw it confirmed when Fox^1 nearly gets JV before he tank rolled into his main. Lurker rush is good to contain terran too, I feel.
The one big problem I have been trying, is to get that quick expansion attempt to work vs terran and i think i'll try to just go mutas and speed lings rather than just mass hydras and sometimes quick gaurds, cause mms and tanks just waste their asses.
One more thing to Fox^1 (see if this might help him), I have played vs Mark4 zvp, he is really good and an amazingly quick thinking player.
Heres the brief battle report on the forum page hehe,
Map: Lost Temple
HIGHANDRY was zerg at 3pm
Mark4 as protoss at 9pm
After seeing Mark4 use a probe scout to see my quick expansion attempt, I knew he would either try to do a quick expansion as well or straight tech to dropping reavers. So instead of powering I made 14 zerglings from my 2 hatch within 5-6 minutes and attacked him hoping to catch him with his pants down.
I caught Mark4 making a nexus at his natural and had 4-5 zealots there, but i overwhelmed them even though he tries to use 3 probes along with his zs to defend his natural expansion, all his forces die or run back to his main at the cost of half my ling force and the remaining dozen or so lings die to his probes at his main and his 2 zealots. I didnt think i could do much anyways at his main, but i did enough to get an edge.
I left Mark4 alone for a while powering my economy from 2 bases and going straight to mass mutas with weapons teching. This is where my mistakes start to amount, I am amazed to see his natural with close to 24+ zealots and a fully functioning expansion. My 12 mutas start to pound on his 3 quick cannon attempts. Thinking my mutas are causing havoc, i send all my lings to attack as well , but most of the lings get slaughtered by his zealots due to the fact he had as many (in power) to kill the mass zerglings and the lings ran in a single file.
I take out Mark4's 2 goons and 2 cannons at the cost of only 4 mutas and he is still making 3 more cannons attempts with 2 more goons coming to take on the muta onslaught. Here comes my 2nd mistake where, I was worried about Mark4's temps lying around in wait to waste my clumped mutas, so i keep moving down to his main to see if there are any temps there, I see only templar archives but when i run my mutas back to his natural, i see his 3 cannons and 4 goons already in place. Doh, so i run my mutas back, and start teching my lings with 1-1
I had already wasted more then 3 control groups of lings doing little to kill off his mass zealots, so I did not have much troops left. I try to send drones to the 12am location to expand, but while teching and building, I keep noticing every ling or drone scout disapear when they get to the 12am location and 6 pm location, exasperated, I waste one muta flying straigt to 6pm to see Mark4 making cannons in addition to his already 4 cannons and a templar defending a just functioning main!! At the same time, my 6 lings are being wasted by a dark templar at the 12am location.
The thing about the dt is that, in these 1v1 match ups, anything that slows you done really affects your game play, and although i take out the dt when my slowly lumbering ol make it to the 12am location to sight him, my critical 3rd expansion attempt was made after Mark4 had already made his 2nd and 3rd base as well.
INTO THE MID GAME:
I send my 3 control groups of mutas and 4 groups of cracklings to Mark4's 3rd base. As I sent them, I see him send his 3 Archons and zealots and goons to my 12am 3rd expansion effort as well. This is where Mark4 is able to clinch his victory, as he stops my 3rd base attempt denying me critical resources to continue powering, the protoss base where all my zerg forces attack is filled with cost effective defense. Although I am able prevent losing too much mutas to his storms, the mutas die mostly to the nearly 6-8 cannons surrounding his nexus.
Having hoped that my mass crackling would have been the ones taking out the mass cannons before my mutas start to get wasted, they are yet again massacred by a number of dts lying in wait there, and for the time it took to get my slow moving ols to sight the dts, while i tried to control the nearly 5 control groups of lings, more than half of them die needlessly.
After those attacks, I had lost my 3rd base easily while most of my zerg forces were wiped out in taking out mark4's 3rd base. Mark4's small force of archons and mass zealots take out my mineral only base and they were only killed at the cost of my remaining mutas and lings.
Initially, I had already sensed that Mark4 would continue making mass archons seeing my mass lings in mid game, but like a dunce, instead of switching to hydras right away, i conitnued to go mass cracklings cause of having invested in them with 2-2 upgrades and they get wasted easily to his force of a dozen archons and mass zs, whenever i try to stop him expand to his mineral only base.
LATE GAME:
I finally switch to mass hydras at the expense of not expanding at all, and with only one mineral base running, I try to take out Mark4's mineral only base as well, I take out his archons and zealots but by the time i get to the nexus, he has a fresh crop of zealots coming with storms being cast everywhere.
Knowing that having the same amount of bases with a protoss, is not good, I make 8 lurkers and try to save up more for a few more hdyras while trying to hold onto my 3rd base, since I did not have enough to expand again without engaging the speed zealots, archons and temps.
Mark4 cautiously approachs closer and closer to my main, while making sure his troops are bunched together with templar protection, using his probable observer, he takes out my 8 lurkers slowly with storms, and with the lurkers gone, my few remaining hydras are taken out along with my only mineral running base. Mark4 is even cautious in going to my main and natural, but there was not really that much to prevent him from rolling it over.
In later weeks, I read the infamous BR of Mark4 vs that [9]NTT and his makes good work of using dts to defend in critical places of the map, all I have to say is that to beat Mark4, you have to always change your strategies in response to what he does,
FOR EXAMPLE:
Going quick ling attack knowing that he will counter the quick expansion attempt with a quick expansion of his own or quick tech.
Going lurkers vs his mass speed zealots, speed ols for dts, switching from crackling when marks responds with archons to hydras and never pause in expanding.
Anyhow, what really threw me off all the time, was being aware of Mark4's reputation in his use of storms, damn him. Maybe i shouldn't of been so hesitant in finishing off his natural.
Anyway, make more of the text reports Fox^1 , they were great to read, and to the admin here, yes I am doing my part in clicking them banners to feed you keke, keep up the good work on this site, i really do in fact feel that you guys do care much about this site and the users of it.
...better get back to working or I'll get fired...:P |
