Hammer vs. Mad_Dogg
Part 1:Showdown

I was passing through battle.net and was in the search of a game or two. I played
a temple 1v1 and was feeling good after a victory. I was intrigued by the battle plans of
two players. Hammer and Mad_Dogg were talking trash and offered to play a best of
three. I offered to BR for them and they accepted. The first conflict was to occur on the
barren deserts of Showdown. Both players elected to lead a rag tag terran fraction onto
the field of battle. Hammer landed a center in the north and the Dogg landed to the south.
Let’s go to the action...
Both generals began mass peon production and played it conservatively. Hammer
started with a barracks and a depot with Dogg going barracks and marine pumping upon
completion. Soon both players had a bunker at the choke and a marine out scouting.
Neither marine got far as they engaged each other until retreating. (Peon Sanders they are
not. : )
Hammer trained four more marines and then saved the 400 minerals for a CC.
Dogg went for gas and a bay. Just as Hammer’s CC completed, Dogg had constructed a
factory and was building a shop. Hammer landed the CC on his island and built a
refinery. Dogg sent a vulture and a few marines marching north to draw first blood. The
small raiding band arrived at Hammer’s choke just as a second bunker completed. The
choke held and only an injured vulture was able to limp back to Dogg’s main. Hammer
soon began a building boom of a bay followed by two factories with matching shops.
Siege mode research was completed just as Hammer’s two new tanks came online.
Dogg had built a new bay and had researched siege mode as well. His first three
tanks was posted at his choke and he began construction of a CC to float over to his
island expansion. He also set up a few turrets to protect from air. These would do little
good for the marines and tanks that were headed south. Fortunately the tanks and
marines stopped at the nearest expansion and sieged. A few scv’s arrived and built
bunker and turret defenses. More scv’s were built at Hammer’s island expansion and
began production of turrets. Hammer also built a new starport and an armory.
The action lulled for about ten minutes while Dogg built three new starports and
two armories. Dogg made two dropships and ferried scv’s and four tanks to the center
cliffs. He then built turrets on the center cliffs with tanks in siege mode. His plan to
dominate the center would pay off as a small marine tank army came under heavy tank
fire.
Hammer had a third expansion as his new CC came online. He built another two
starports and a science facility. His factories were now pumping out goliath’s and his
control tower researched cloaking and all three began wraith and science vessel
production. When he had twenty wraiths and five vessels he headed south. Dogg on the
other had spent a lot of his money on expansions. He now had three expansions and his
main. Defense included tanks, turrets and a squadron of about ten wraiths with cloaking.
The center cliff turrets were soon attacked by the incoming Hammer squadron. Hammer
destroyed the four turrets with only three losses and killed all four tanks on the cliffs.
Wraiths from Doggs base arrived just as the last turret was destroyed. Hammer had
science vessels and Dogg didn’t and the disadvantage was staggeringly obvious. Dogg
retreated his wraiths but not before Hammer’s wraiths were able to kill five Dogg
wraiths.
Both main bases had mined out and scv’s were transferred. Hammer’s were
ferried over to his island, but Dogg elected to move them to his expansion towards the
center. In a brilliant move, Hammer had used a comsat and happened to see the scv
movement. He sent wraiths in an obvious ploy to kill the scv’s. Dogg responded with
wraiths, vessels and goliath’s. Dogg also stopped the scv’s from moving any farther. He
believed he had the situation well in hand as Hammer’s wraiths were getting seriously
owned by Dogg’s forces. What Dogg didn’t see was the pack of seven vultures moving
in between the path that connected the main and the expansions. Hammer then preceded
to mine the entire area and pulled the vultures back to his own expansion. He then
retreated his remaining wraiths and watched the fun. The scv’s continued on their way
and were soon popping like corn in hot oil. Fifteen scv’s had become the terran version
of goon soup. Dogg responded with language not permitted on a PG rated BR like this. :
)
Hammer soon routed his brand new wraiths straight for the main of Dogg. Dogg
was able to turret the front of his base with at least ten turrets. These were closely packed
together and provided a good defense up front. Dogg however, neglected to turret the
rear of the base with such diligence. Hammer split his enormous wraith squadron into
two groups of twenty. The first group headed for the northern most expansion of Dogg
and preceded to lay waste to it. The size of the attack made all available wraith pilots to
head for the expansion a.s.a.p. The second group cloaked and headed straight to the heart
of Dogg’s main. They flew past the turrets taking minimal damage and immediately
went after goliath’s and the comsat station. A second comsat revieled the position of the
wraiths but there were no troops to fight the air invasion. Hammer’s pilots got the a-okay
to rape the poor undefended main. The three starports went first. They were followed by
two factories and a science facility. The barracks were able to air lift to Dogg’s island
expansion. The brutal assault carried on for about five good minutes until a force of
goliath’s arrived. They were the last metal troops from Dogg’s operating expansion
factories. Unfortunately, the hand of fate decided to slap poor Dogg around when half of
the goliath’s died to the remaining mines still left from his earlier vulture raid. Finally
the remaining goliath’s and the last of Dogg’s wraiths arrived to drive the enemy off.
Total casualties:Hammer = ten wraiths
:Dogg = Three starports, two factories, one science facility, nine wraiths and six
goliath’s.
Judges? It’s unanimous. THAT SUCKED.

Dogg had two mining bases left and now needed to mount an offense. He
preceded to build a huge army. His two factories and three barracks now were pumping
as many marines, goliath’s, vultures and tank he could buy. The army consisting of at
least sixty units approached the outskirts of Hammer’s expansion. Just as the tank began
seiging a huge salvo of missiles lunched from nowhere. Lockdown hit almost every tank
in the first wave. The second wave struck half of the goliath’s. Siege fire rained down on
the helpless army as the marines ran around in vain getting blown up and making the tan
brown earth a deep red. The tanks exploded in wreckage as wraiths and science vessels
flew overhead. With his economy mined out and his army in ruins, Dogg concedes the
first game to Hammer.

Your Winner
Hammer
