Civil War
The story so far ……
After endless hours of contemplating who should challenge the leader of the Renegade Knights, Lurker decided to represent himself and took an audacious attempt to challenge our leader, Black Raven. Lurker, a recent recruit of Clan (RK) and a respected knight with superior StarCraft skills, showed great confidence that he could be the first clan member to defeat our almighty leader, Black Raven. I was elected to observe and write about this game.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present you:
(RK)Black Raven Versus (RK)Lurker
Our espionage had informed us that Lurker had indeed form an alliance
with the Protoss tribe. Lurker had conspired to use the Protoss forces to overthrow
his clan leader and assume leadership of this clan.
Filled with a great need of power, Lurker wondered how would
be like being the new leader of the Renegade Knights ……
The Battle Map - DARK TEMPLE
Starting position - Raven (Terran) at 12:00
Lurker(Protoss) at 6:00
The starting build orders:
After landing his base at the 12:00 position, Raven quickly sent his four scvs to mine. Raven's starting build went like this:
Depot, depot, barracks, refinery, and depot.
Based on this build order, it was obvious that Raven
was using the most widely used strategy in StarCraft (TERRAN TURTLING!)
Lurker warped in his nexus and moved his probes to mine immediately.
His build order went:
Pylon first, gate, pylon, and an assimilator. It seemed that Lurker had attempt to make an apparent quick Zeolot rush and, also tech as fast as possible with this build order.
The Beginning:
Two depots were already constructed at Raven's choke point. I expected that Raven would build his barracks next to the depots but my leader had proven me wrong as a third depot was built next to the first two, which completely blocked off the entrance! However, a scv was able to get out to scout before the third depot was built. Raven scouted Lurker's base but quickly retreated the scv before the Zeolots chased it down. After the bunker was completed behind the depots, freshly recruited marines appeared at the barracks were ordered to get inside the bunker and guard the choke.
Lurker was not paying attention to his defense. His main goal was to rush as soon as possible and hopefully he could catch Raven off guard. As soon as his second gate was completed, he started warping Zeolots simultaneously warped in another gateway. After three zeolots were warped in, they quickly marched towards to the 12 o'clock position. Lurker did not scout before his attack but somehow knew where Raven was located. Maybe it was luck but I did not want to accuse anybody of using a bug.
Without knowing that Raven was turtling, the depots gave Raven a wondrous advantage by blocking the Zeolots from breaking into his base. The brave marines in the bunker were ordered to fire at will, and quickly dispatched the first Zeolot. Lurker did not back down with his two remaining Zeolots and forced his way in with two Zeolots. The attack was a complete fiasco as the two remaining Zeolots bit the dust.
At this point Raven had erected an engineering bay, and 4 turrets were built around on the left side of his base. The first turret was placed near his worker line and the rest of them were place around the edge of the cliff. A factory was built later followed by a starport. The idled scv who scouted earlier was ordered to build a depot the 3 o'clock natural with no intention of expanding there. I guess that Raven wanted to save some space at his main base. After Raven's starport was completed, I expected he would go for a tank drop, but a Wraith appeared next to the starport. I suggested to myself that I should stop playing guessing games with Raven.
Disappointed at his first failed assault, Lurker had decided to quickly climb the tech tree since he realized that Raven was building strong defense at his base without any intention of expanding early. Lurker warped a cyber genetic core and then a citadel of Adun. A stargate was warped as well as Lurker wanted to gain some air control. He had also expanded to his natural at this point. Raven sent his first initial wraith to harass the probes at Lurker's base. The lone wraith did not prove any threat because it was not killing the probes quickly. Even though Lurker did not have any detection during Raven probe harassment, Raven sent his wraith back to defend. Raven could have continued to decimate the probes, but he thought of a more devious plan to annihilate Lurker's base. A scv had also completed a command center back at his main, and was ordered to float it to the island expansion on the left.
The Assault Continued:
The belligerent Lurker kept warping dragoons and corsairs. With a control group of six dragoons and three corsairs with d-web researched, Lurker wasted no time and sent his second army to attack with a devious plan in his mind.
Lurker grinned to himself and clenched his fist tight until his knuckles turned white, hoping that this time Raven's regime would fall…….
The corsairs were first to reach the base and quickly release the influence of the disrupting web on the bunker and a siege tank near the entrance. The dragoons then charged fiercely ahead and only after
the first plasma blast released from one of the dragoons hit a depot at the choke, Raven's turned his attention to the dragoons. The siege tank was ordered to transform into tank mode and moved away from the web influence. The five newly constructed wraiths were commanded to defend the now vulnerable Terran base. Two depots were destroyed in no time with only one dragoon casualty. The remaining five dragoons who witnessed the death of their breathen, attempted to climb up the ramp to finish off the siege tank. Lurker made a mistake when his 3 other Dragoons were unable to climb the ramp and danced around wildly at the entrance. The two dragoons who managed to climb up the ramp were shot down quickly by the wraiths combined with the firepower from the siege tank, and blue liquid flooded profusely from their body. The remaining dragoons were killed even before the first one managed to climb up the ramp.
Lurker was not discouraged after second failed assault. Two more stargates were warped followed by an observatory. It was obvious at this point that Lurker was going for air control as three of the stargates were flashing brightly.
Raven frantically tried rebuilt his destroyed depot and two more starports were erected after that. He also scanned the area with his com-sat, searching for any possible Lurker's expansions. However, Raven found out the expansions were empty except for Lurker's natural. In order to get an economy advantage; Raven had ordered a scv at his 3 o'clock natural to build another command center at the 3 o'clock main.
AIR STRIKE!
Scouts, corsairs, and carriers were continually warped into Lurker's base. Raven's four operating starports had produced eight battle cruisers and a science vessels for detection. After grouping the
battle cruisers together, Raven did not send his behemont air units directly south. Instead, he ordered them to move all the way to the right side and slowly proceeded to south (the bottom right island expansion). Before ordering his fleet to attack, Raven again scanned around Lurker's base trying to acquire valuable information. All he saw was lights flashing at the stargate, and the cyber genetic core spinning. Raven needed what he saw and assumed that he would face a large fleet of carriers. However, he did not see them because Lurker smartly hid his carriers below his natural at 6 o'clock.
"A subtle move indeed." I thought to myself.
After failing to search for Luker's fleets, Raven relinquished his search and decided to attack. Two more battle cruisers joined his initial eight at the abandoned right island, and with a grand total of ten battle cruisers. They were set a course directly to Lurker's only expansion at 6 o'clock.
Due to the lack of anticipation that Raven would attack Lurker with battle cruisers, Lurker was caught with a surprise but he had 6 carriers accompanied by a small fleet of corsairs, scouts and two arbiters hovering above his 6 o'clock expansion. As the two massive fleets collided together for the first time.
Interceptors appeared from the carriers desperately trying to take down the battle cruisers before the yamoto cannon hits their mother ships.
The interceptors were no match for the battle cruisers as they were shot down one by one by the powerful laser blast from the battle cruisers. Some of the battle cruisers were aimed at the carriers but Lurker tried to dispatch the fleets with corsairs and scouts. The battle seemed to be on Lurker's favor when two battle cruisers burst into flames by the powerful missiles from the scouts. Sensing
Raven's imminent lost; I was about to bow to my new ruler of the clan, Lurker. However, I had overlooked one of Terran's greatest weapons ……
A small missile was released by the science vessels and slowly headed towards the carriers. I did not take my eyes from the missile, and I froze momentarily as the missile hit one of the carriers. A blurry effect was spread within a radius where the carriers were.
The science vessel had released a deadly and maniacal EMP.
The tide has changed after Lurker's carriers lost all of their shields. The ball was in Raven's hand right now as the battle cruisers cut the once massive Protoss air fleet with ease and without effort.
Lurker was dumbfounded at the sight as his carriers were met with powerful lasers and exploded in mid air. Without their shields, Lurker's chances of winning this battle will take some kind of a miracle.
During the air strike, Raven was building more battle cruisers back at this base and the fleets were to reinforced the Battle Cruisers engaging the carriers and the remaining corsairs and scouts. Lurker's main was mined out and his expansion was eradicated by the attacking battle cruisers. Probes tried to escaped to a new expansion but were shot down quickly by Raven's newly made battle cruisers who were advancing from his 12 o'clock base.
Finally, Lurker gave up and two words were shown on our battle screen.
'I give!'
Raven's reply?
....
After the last Protoss structure was shot down, Raven desperately tried
to capture Lurker alive and make him pay for his evil deeds. Apparently, he was no where to be found.
Apparently,
Lurker had left the 'game'.
This concludes my first Civil War Report.
