][mmortal and champ vs. super and nogood
A Challenge Presented:
One day, in channel Clan _hero_, Hero's battlereporter, Undead{hero}, was just sitting there in
the cyber tavern pondering how the hell he had just lost 4 straight games that day while drinking
a shot of whiskey. Just as he was so deeply absorbed in thought, Nogood{hero}, Super{hero},
][MMORTAL{hero}, and Champ~Guns barged into the channel and caused a ruckuss in the
bar with the people that were already in the pub. Immortal decided that instead of talking
senselessly with his fellow clansmen, he'd rather play a 2on2 with his friend, Champ~Guns.
Nogood{hero} and Super{hero} also decided the same thing, and therefore a game was created. As a
soon passed out of my trauma, I also joined the game asking to observe. Of course they accepted
me and Immortal requested me to write a battlereport of this game. I obliged and therefore,
present to you a 2on2 on Dire Straits!
Crimson Beaches:
***Note I could not get all the build orders because of my friend haggling me to help him with
a level in Jetfighter III on my other comp, but I do have all the troops that all the players
were going for.***
Immortal and Champ~Guns both chose their cerebrates to fend off the incoming invaders.
Immortal went for a quick 2 lair hydra drop along with a few sunken
colonies to fend off incoming drops from his opponents. His ally, Champ~Guns
aimed for a quick spire to produce mass mutalisks and scourges.
Immortal had infested the bottom-left spot and Champ manifested
his hive cluster at the bottom-right position.
Super{hero}, chose his extremely resourceful and cautious executor to lead
the expedition against his clan leader. He warped in his nexus on the top-right position and
to make a corsair/reaver drop, along with a few mixed infantry. His ally,
Nogood{hero}, took the advice of his lucky dice, which gave his Terran Commander the honor
to lead the campaign for the glory of Hero. He decided to utilize tanks, M&M's, and a fast
starport for a few wraiths and dropships.
Immortal and Champ decide to break the silence
to try and take one of their opponents out of the game by a quick attack.
Immortal loads up 8 hydras and sends them over to Super's base,
escorted by Champ's mutas and scourges. However, Super
, although only 9 years old (as he says, and acts like it, but other than that, we love
the little truant to be in clan hero don't we? Don't we?? Don't we??!!!), was wise beyond his
years (in reference to Starcraft playing), had anticipated the offensive and already made 1
reaver and had a few dragoons to guard the reavers. Along with the help of a few wraiths from
Nogood, the attack was thwarted. This battle took place in area 1
shown in the above minimap (a little change of style going back to YRM's reports).
Wanting to retaliate from the rude intrusion by the zerg forces, Super
decided to counterattack Champ. He loaded 1 reaver, 2 dragoons and 2
zealots had a few corsair escorts. However, this attack only managed to kill a sunken and a few
other miscellaneous troops that Champ had before reinforcements from
Immortal annihilated the invaders that set foot on purple creep.
Meanwhile, Immortal has been busy annexing the expansion ground
between Champ and himself. At the same time, he ordered about 16 hydras
into their respective overlords and had them fasten their seatbelts because they were about
to make an invasion. Once again, with the escorts of his ally's mutas, he was able to make a
landing at the spot labeled 2. However, a landing doesn't exactly mean a successful attack.
Nogood{hero} had his base defended like a fortress. Take a look for
yourself to what happened to the poor hydras.
After this failed offensive by Immortal, Nogood
judged that it was time to expand because he was running short on minerals. Because his
partner already took control of the expansion area in between the 2 allies,
Nogood took the expansion between Immortal and himself. As
Immortal sent his reconaissance overlord to scout his adversary to the
north of him, he found 3 dropships unloading in the midpoint between his island and his
opponent's. Seeing that his opponents started expanding their territory,
Immortal decided that he could not allow any expansions, so he decided to put pressure
on Nogood and ultimately conquer the island between the 2.
Now that the quiet's settled in again, let us take a look at the minimap to see where our players
stand. During Immortal's unsuccessful attacks on
Nogood's expansions, Champ~Guns has been able to conquer
Super's expansion between him and Nogood.
Super{hero}, seeing that his first expansion was intennable, but not
discouraged, expanded again between Champ and himself. The middle two
islands was now occupied by the zerg forces. Champ had the right island
all to himself, while he shared the left island with his ally. By this time,
Immortal is producing hydras/lurkers, while his ally has guardian tech and has been making
good use of it, by trying to invade Super's newly made expansion. But the
guardians started hauling their asses out of there when they saw the corsairs and felt the pain
of its neutron flare and flew away like a fat man that just saw their 90 year old 6th grade
teacher naked.
Now, since Nogood has been powering for quite some time now, decided to
go on a expansion cleansing rampage. He started by running over the right island located in the
middle above his opponents' mains.
At this time, Immortal decided to be aggressive once again. He loaded
about 12 hydras and headed for Super's base. However,
Super's reflexes allowed him to respond quickly as soon as he saw the overlords come.
Unleashing their psionic powers, the high templar (no pun intended, hehe yea right) rained down
terror on the hydras unloading. The reavers unleashed their almighty scarabs and clobbered all
the hydras that dared venture foward. Therefore, Immortal was once again
DENIED DENIED DENIED DENIED DENIED DENIED DENIED DENIED DENIED DENIED DENIED DENIED...Mwhahahaha.
Sorry. I lost my senses. Back to the report.
Actually, Champs had taken the expansion after
Immortal had failed. Anyway, after asking if his partner was alright, and satisfied with
his answer, which was "My expansion is dead you idiot!" Nogood went
on his mad campaign for conquest again. This time, he took the left central-island by storm. No,
not psionic storm. Just storming into the base.
Seeing that Nogood was being a methodical bastard and wiping out each
expansion that the zerg allies claimed, Immortal and
Champ became desperate. However, as noted above, Champ was able
to take over Super's island in the middle of the right side of the map.
Realizing that the end was near, Champ decided to go for a longshot.
He loaded 16 cracklings into their respective kangaroo pouches...er...overlord ventral sacs and
floated gloomily toward Super's base. At first, it looked like the
cracklings were making progress quickly tearing down pylon after pylon and working on a few
gateways. But just to stop their joy, a few zealots on sentry duty chewed up the zerglings as a
midnight snack.
Moving on. Super, although struggling for income, had taken his ally's
expansion in the top portion of the middle-right island. As a safeguard that this island will not
fall, Super positioned 4 high templar in strategic places on the island
for maximum storming capability. Nogood happily floated another CC to
the island that once was Super's first expansion.
During the last few minutes, only a few insignificant events happened, except for the fall of
Champ's expansion between him and Super. Now with
his adversaries' backs pressed to the wall, Nogood{hero} goes in for
the kill. He slaps down 10 dropship's worth of cargo onto Immortal's
base. Let's survey what happens.
Needless to say, the bug nest at the bottom-right corner has been, well, exterminated. Seeing
that there was absolutely no hope left because Nogood was too powerful,
the zerg allies conceded defeat and left the game. Check out the stats.
Post-Game Review:
1. The main reason why I believe that many of the attacks from Immortal and Champs were
unsuccessful is because of the lack of upgrades. Although Immortal did upgrade 2/2 for hydras,
Champ did not upgrade at all. Had he upgraded, maybe a few of the attacks by Nogood and Super
would have been much more laborious.
2. The zerg allowed Super and Nogood to have map control. Except in the beginning, the team that
had more expansions was Nogood and Super, and Nogood always made a serious effort to destroy the
opponent's expansions. However, although Immortal and Champ also made an effort, I believe that
when expansion cleaning time came, Nogood always wanted the expansion a little more than Immortal
and Champ (well, he had more troops too).
3. The lack of diversity of units also hurt the zerg. Immortal went for most of the game, hydras
and occasionally, a few lurkers. Had he also gone guardians as well as lurkers and hydras, then
he might have had a chance to stop some of the expansion cleaning attempts by Nogood.
I hope you enjoyed reading this battlereport, and until next time, have fun and play hard.
