It was at this time that the biggest ship yet in the Gvaylax Armada was unveiled. A joint project of the two Space Yards and classified as a top secret, the new class of ship would advance the Armada by leaps and bounds. The designers, developers and engineers that created it named the class as the Cruiser. A truly massive vessel with a crew of over 650 it was a force to be reckoned with. The first of these war ships was named the "Gallant". It rolled out of the assembly bays on the anniversary of the creation of the Gvaylax Kingdom. After more than a week of performing tests it joined its brothers in the Vessonu system. And this exact time was the time chosen by the Thultak to launch a massive offensive against the Gvaylax.
A fleet of over twenty vessels came out behind Vessonu's Sun and attacked Vessonu Squad which at that time was defending Vessonu I. A horribly long fire fight ensued. Transmissions were sent out to Gvaylax Squad and it quickly started making the Jumps towards Vessonu. The "Gallant" momentarily stunned the enemy fleet and it quickly used its advantage to fire off a full volley of Detrion Bursts at the enemy fleets support ships. Meanwhile the "Armistar", "Koraki", "Intrepid" and the "Apostle" flew fly by manuevers to distract enemy fire off the "Gallant". The "Jenax" and the "Sennir" had flanked the enemy and using the disruption of targeting laid down by the sun, sent several groups of quick firing torpedoes deep into the enemy battle group where it hit several ships damaging them. The enemy commanders werent stupid either, as they started the pincer movement on the main group of Gvaylax vessels all the while firing. The "Gallant" was in red condition and the casaulties on-board were very high. The "Rajja"s Captain, in one of the bravest acts in known Gvaylax history then proceeded to go at ramming speed at the Thultak Command vessel, which was a huge ship, almost as big as the "Gallant" herself and hitting it in a broad side impact shattering her in two. For what seemed like minutes both sides were silenced. The Gvaylax Admiral in charge recovered the fastest and ordered his ships to renew firing at the enemy battle group. Lasers streaked through space and many hit Thultak ships sometimes damaging them and sometimes worse. The Thultak wouldnt retreat this easily however and concentrated fire from five Destroyer sized vessels destroyed both the "Jenax" and the "Sennir". The odds were still fairly even and heavy fire rocked both sides in stunning explosions. The "Gallant" pulled back while the "Armistar", "Koraki", "Intrepid" and the "Apostle" dispersed in a criss cross formation forcing the enemy ships to fight in 3 dimensions not the usual leveled guns slugout. The strategy seemed to work as the Thultak were slow to adapt, many of their heavier ships getting critically damaged by the Heavy Destroyers while the "Armistar" served as a support ship blocking the Thultak from pursuing its comrades. Then by a stroke of terrible luck, the "Armistar" took the brunt of a whole stream of Mass Drivers, exploding in a massive shockwave and sending piece of scrap metal flying everywhere. Suddenly there was no support for the Heavy Destroyers. As they started to run, the Thultak were hit by an intense volley from Vessonu Squads saviours. Gvaylax Squad had arrived! As soon as they saw this the Thultak made a hasty retreat from the scene.
To avoid confusion, the Gvaylax Squad was made up of three newly created vessels on Gvaylax and Gvaylax III. One was a Cruiser size named "Leatio" and the other two were both Heavy Destroyers, "Varth" and "Chisso". All three were outfitted with the newest technological advances. Now the Gvaylax Armada consisted of Cruiser "Gallant", Cruiser "Leatio", Heavy Destroyer "Koraki", Heavy Destroyer "Intrepid", Heavy Destroyer "Apostle", Heavy Destroyer "Varth" and Heavy Destroyer "Chisso". At this time the Third Iron Hearts Battalion was formed on Gvaylax II.
Overall the battle was a celebrated success. The loss of the "Armistar", "Jenax", "Rajja" and the "Sennir" was grieved but revenge was satisfied with 9 completely destroyed enemy ships and the rest who ran, were all damaged pretty bad. The Cruiser size was also now prooven to be an excellent war ship as it absorbed so much of the fire in the early stages of the battle that it was enough to knock half the rest of the Squad out. Half its crew was lost in the struggle, including its Captain.
The Gvaylax Command Head Quarters quickly decided on a strategy. Vessonu was to begin constructing a Battle Base near Vesonnu II to act as a resupplying post and a gathering point for the fleet in that part of space. It was completed in a relatively short amount of time as many independent freighters once again helped the Government out by shipping supplies and materials from the 9 worlds to the focal point at Vessonu II. The Battle Base had a huge arsenal of weapons and enough armor to withstand the heat from a hundred suns. Some incursions by small Thultak Raiders were common place in the system and the Armada responded accordingly, destroying many Raiders and heavily damaging others. Gvaylax III Space Yard worked non-stop, creating large ships, sometimes two at a time and not a week after Battle Base One was finished in Vessonu a new Cruiser rolled out of their bays. The "LionStrike" was a mighty Cruiser with newly designed weapons from Suyu Manufacturing. Among them were the Anti-Ship Thunder Strike Missiles and Quatron Cannons capable of tearing up Raiders in seconds. Three other ships were also completed. All were brand new remakes of the Destroyer sized ships. The "Halkonn", the "Yunak" and the "Bomoch" all carried these latest weapons, and were to be used to accompany the main Armada and act as fast striking raiders and support ships laying down alot of fire while the main ships delivered the real blows.
Meanwhile in the non-frontline systems of Gvaylax and Galonni an economic depression was taking place, as so much funds were diverted to military projects that the Governments main public and trade projects were running out of resources quickly. Protests were mounting and riots were starting up in cities across more than five worlds. An Iron Heart Battalion from Gvaylax II was stretched across these troubled worlds and dealt with the uprisings immediately and decisively, killing thousands of civilians in a campaign that lasted three days. The people and the Government, astonished by this action, sent a whole army of Standards led by General Deishkow who defeated the Iron Hearts Battalion in two large scale battles after which the IH's surendered. Major General Grack commited suicide before Standard troops were able to get to him. The IH 3rd Battalion, or at least its remnants, were merged with the 5th Standard Army and became the first mixed army.
Battles between the Thultak and the Gvaylax in and surrounding Vessonu were getting bigger and bloodier. A Patrol Fleet made up of the "Halkonn", the "Chisso" and the "Intrepid" were attacked by a Thultak Raid Fleet of five Heavy Destroyer sized ships and an engagement took place. The "Chisso" and the "Intrepid" attacked the enemy head-on while the "Halkonn" manuevered around the Thultak, who obviously didnt think much of the Destroyer as they simply ignored it, and a heavy fire-fight ensued. One enemy vessel was destroyed by concentrated fire from the "Chisso" and the "Intrepid" but both Gvaylax vessels were getting battered by the other four Thultak ships. Quickly the "Halkonn" released a barrage from its Quatron Cannons, disintergrating a whole vessel and damaging two others. Attention was turned toward the Destroyer and a full volley of torpedoes from all surviving Thultak ships ensured its destruction. The "Halkonn"s sacrifice was not in vain though as this gave time for the "Intrepid" and "Chisso" to target the three remaining damaged enemy vessels and destroy them. Then both ships limped back to Battle Base One for emergency repairs.
The battle showed the effectiveness of the Quatron Cannon and further construction was started on the items. Funds were secretly diverted from all areas of the Kingdom into the military and another Cruiser flew out of Gvaylax Space Yard before the month was out. It was Christened the "Treggit" and it took its position guarding Galonni Prime and creating a new line of defense in the Kingdoms rear. A desperation situation was becoming apparent, as hungry and those in deep poverty crowded Gvaylax streets. Mass riots took place daily and the Government was very quickly having to re-divert its funds from the military into other social areas to ensure public unrest did not go out of control.
During this period of reform, the Thultak Hiearchy was speculating on Gvaylax defenses and what it would take to crack them. The Arch Lord Nemth wondered why so many ships were lost in an attack on an enemy so puny. He didnt know about the other two systems or Battle Base One. As the Gvaylax got better ships and equipment he was getting worried, as he had many ships and troops but his Research and Development were at a stand still because of all the resources being poured into creating more and more ships to replace the ones lost in battles. And his Battle Lords were getting very restless and anxious for him to commit to a full scale Space and Ground Offensive to take the Gvaylax worlds and hold them. Fifty days of carefull consideration later, he agreed and signed over the Command of his First Space Fleet to a High Admiral whom he trusted most, Admiral Chuyi. After a months preparation, a Fleet of over 50 large and small ships set off followed by over a hundred Military Transports each carrying over 3000 soldiers and equipment.
Back in the Gvaylax systems, things were more relaxed. The people werent in such high rates of poverty anymore and the Government had reached a sensible balance between military and public spending. Five new ships had been constructed, 2 Cruisers and 3 brand new Light Cruiser size vessels which had just been designed a month eariler. They had less armament than the Cruiser but packed better engines and more support weapons. The five ships were the Cruiser "Vashar", Cruiser "Cronix", Light Cruiser "Dermojj", Light Cruiser "Fonduec" and Light Cruiser "Quagg". Three more Iron Heart Battalions were formed one Vessonu I, II and IV. Another 2 Standard Armies were shipped from Gvaylax system by company owned Large Transports. The 7th and the 1st Gvaylax Standard Forces. The Gvaylax Military, apart from the above, these forces: Cruiser "Treggit", Cruiser "LionStrike", Cruiser "Gallant", Heavy Destroyer "Chisso", Heavy Destroyer "Intrepid", Heavy Destroyer "Varth", Heavy Destroyer "Apostle", Heavy Destroyer "Koraki", Cruiser "Leatio" and several dozen Military and Equipment Transports. Also another 6 Standard Armies and overall 9 iron Hearts Batallions with the heaviest and most advanced equipment available. It was only 2 weeks after this happened that the First Space Fleet together with more than a dozen other ships sent from Battle Lords and Planet Masters arrived on the outskirts of the Vessonu System only a few hours away from Vessonu VI which had two Standard Armies on it and 3 Iron Heart Battalions. It had no real space forces surrounding it as the majority were at Battle Base One.
The Thultak Fleet scanned the planet and found this fact out also. They lowered the planets importance and sweeped into the system landing 10 Military Transports on its surface and loosing none in the approach to Vessonu IV's main continent as the main AA Battery gunners were so suprised by the suprise attack they did nothing. and simply watched as the transports delivered their package, wondering what was going on. Thultak troops all 30,000 of them moves swiftly and secured two main cities killing many civilians and large population centres in a blitzkrieg the likes of never before seen. The Iron Hearts were the first to respond. One of the Battalions closest to the invaders tactically assaulted Thultak troops from the rear and devestated many Thultak companies, mostly made up of recruits with concentrated Artillery and Armored assaults on enemy positions and movement areas. The other two Iron Hearts Battalions qucikly came up from the front and hit the Thultak offensive head on, starting a massive battle near one of the planets biggest cities. The two Standard Armies quickly evacuated all civillians from the warzone's and then marched into them themselves to help the IH's in their valiant struggle against numeically superior Thultak forces. The Thultak had something up their sleeves too as small craft the size of atmospheric shuttles started strafing Gvaylax fire bases and forward positions. These craft were quick, agile and deadly against slow moving armored targets. If it werent for one very smart IH Commander the whole battle would of gone to the Thultak then and there but he employed quick firing aritllery pieces in brining the enemy craft down and it worked suprisingly well as several dozen of these small fliers were destroyed in a matter of days. Meanwhile the heavy battle raged on day and night on the planet while in space another one was raging between the First Space Fleet's ships and the Gvaylax Armada near the Battle Base One. While the huge space battle was taking place the other ninety Thultak Transports were landing troops on Vessonu I, II and IV. A total of fifteen were destroyed before they could even reach their landing sites.
The news struck the rest of the Kingdom hard. Immiedately all available forces were set to go to the embattled Vessonu system. The Battle of B. Base One thundred in space for days. Neither side could really get the upper hand. Meanwhile on the surface of the 4 planets in Vessonu, massive engagements were being fought between the IH and Standard Armies and the invading forces of the Thultak. Artillery and Armor pounded ground targets and infantry slowly moved forward locked in a mortal struggle for their lives. Thousands of soldiers fell in hours. Cities became battle grounds and the ground was littered with those dead and dying. It was especially hard on Vessonu I where there were almost no real Gvaylax troops, just some rag tag resistance groups fighting an uphill battle against a numerically and technologically superior enemy. The "Treggit" also came to assist the GFA (Gvaylax First Armada) in their titanic battle with the 50 ship strong Thultak First Space Fleet.
The best news came from Vessonu VI where IH and Standard Troops had almost pushed the enemy off the planet with a massive death toll on both sides. The hardest battles were being fought on one of the cotinents most Southern Regions which were filled with mountain ranges and hills. Armor was useless and guerilla warfare was the way to fight. An IH Battalion got within sight of the main Thultak Battle Camp where the leaders of the V6 operation were stationed and started an assault which lasted for 7 hours after which the IH's stood triumphant over the bodies of hundreds of enemy dead. Only 10% of the IH Battalion survived and that was deducted from what was left after the main battles near the major cities. A total of 46 IH's survived from the whole Battalion of over a thousand. Only a few transports came to evacuate the remaining Thultak troops and many of those were shot down. The Thultak defeat on V6 spurred on defenders on the other worlds where even bigger battles were being fought. A small flotilla of private freighters, upon request, started uploading Standard and remaining IH troops to deliver them to the next world V4 which was also undersiege.
A five ship fleet, consisted of 2 Cruisers and 3 Light Cruisers also arrived at what remained of the Battle of B. Base One. The battle was not going well for the Gvaylax as most of their ships were incapacitated by superior enemy firepower and numbers. The Cruisers were the lone giants striking at the enemy spear head hard, hoping to blunt it enough for more ships to arrive and turn back the offensive. But nothing was going well as Support Ships were devestated by Thultak missile/projectiles which ignored the other Gvaylax ships. The five ship fleet from Gvaylax helped matters slightly as they hit the enemy hard on the flank destroying 7 vessels in a major barrage which completely depleted their heavy weapons armament forcing the Cruisers and Light Cruisers to use energy weapons. But the extra help didnt seem to help either as again the small shuttle sized "Fighters" were seen in swarms disposing of a Heavy Destroyer in a matter of minutes. Point Defense cannons took out many of these small horrors but more took their place. The Gvaylax Armada was pushed back 2 hours after the victory at V6. The Fleet Admiral sent a transmission of his want of forgiveness for failure of stopping the Thultak. He shot himself in the head in a ritual suicide. The battered remnants of the Gvaylax fleet fled back to the Gvaylax system for reinforcements and heavy repairs. The Thultak Commanders reveled in their victory as they though they had conquered the entire Gvaylax Kingdom. Half the Thultak FSF was destroyed in the Battle of B. Base One.
Only 6 ships survived the Battle of B. Base One. The 3 Cruisers and 3 Light Cruisers. There was no time to tow back the rest of the damaged Armada and they were picked apart by the Thultak FSF or what remained of them. The estimated casaulties were in their millions as the Vessonu System planets were also being bombarded from space now that the FSF was free to do as they please. The IH and Standard Troops from V6 somewhat helped the situation and softened the enemy offensive on V4 but ultimately failed to destroy them. Devestating explosions shook every city and killed many civillians. Rag tag resistance groups were quickly formed to defend their worlds against the alien attackers. Back in Gvaylax the battered ships of the GFA were being repaired and new ships were being built in Gvaylax Space Yards, Gvaylax II Space Yards and Gvaylax III Space Yards. Another Space Yard was being constructed at Galonni Prime and a new Explorer, privately owned set out to search other star systems for habitable planets which could house colonists. In the two weeks of utter hell for the Gvaylax Kingdom, the GFA were near non-existent, the Thultak ruled over what was left of the Vessonu system and people were starting to riot over what was happening worse than ever before.
