Lifetime Rating for Flint79: 6.3714 |   | Well....I was a little tired of playing Terran non-stop for time being and I elected to try out a race I have'nt used in a long time. Protoss. I set up a public game on Challenger for starters and in walks "fast-eddie" (Soon I would find out that "feeble-eddie" would be a more fitting name.)
Here is the chat in the game room.
Me: Hey
Him: NO RUSH
*I sigh*
Me: k
Him: hi (I suppose he had to get the blasting "NO RUSH" outta his system before greeting me.)
Me: Ready?
Him: yes
*He then begins to flood the chat room with..."ig, ht, gr, uy" as the countdown goes off. I accounted this for a probable high blood-sugar content.
Early game: I just finished looking at a Starcraft webpage in order to learn the early build order. 7, Plyon, 8 Gateway, 9 Gateway and started pumping probes like mad. I admit...I was impresed with the speed I had my economy going at. He then asks, "Are u good?". Why do ppl ask this? I reply, "I'm ok". He asks the same question again, I don't reply this time :) . Well...everything is goin well....I have a quite a few zeals and goons at my choke (With a shield battery) when I shuttle over a probe to expand at my island. I get a few Observers and go for map control. Well, he has'nt expanded at his island yet...and I park the Observer there. I then send another one behind his mineral patches to see....8 probes on minerals and 4 on gas. Hmmmmm. I basically have unlimited resources at this time with my expansion running full blast.
Mid-Game: Well...I have Temps now. I decide to shuttle one in and Storm his 8 probes. Bring his turtles pace to stand still. It works and he is left with 2 probes on minerals and one on gas. Now here is the real kicker. I look away for a while to manage my production and look back 5 mins later via my Observer. He still has 2 probes on minerals and 1 on gas. WTF? He did make one more probe...but this one just sat outside of his Nexus. I later find out this probe was to be his EXPANSION PROBE! That probe was much too important to toil away with his brothers at the old mine and just sat there. By this time I have Obersvers on all mineral patches and more money than I could spend, not that I was really tring to. He had about 6 cannons at his choke and had very few Zeals/Goons. At this point I got hungry. So I went upstairs and made myself some Toast and watched T.V in the kitchen. That Chimp show on TBS is kinda funny. Now I decide to have a smoke. I go out in my backyard and enjoy it...then return to the game.
Late game: Nothing has changed.....he still has 2 probes on minerals and 1 on gas. Now he decides it's the ripe time for him to expand! Well....my observer sees it. What really gets me is where he build his Nexus. Ya know how most (Well....all normal ppl) build their respective townhall as close as possible to the mineral patch.....he build it at least 7 or 8 spaces away. It must have taken him a while to gather up the 400 minerals + 2 plyons he attempted to made there with his booming economy. I send my Mucho goons and squash the expansion attempt. At this point I have gotten lazy and am just slowly building. I was way more interested in seeing what he was gonna do next :) . Well he says that he has to go. Lag was getting bad for some reason so I had turned off sound...that really helped, but would soon be quite an annoyance. He says...attack me with everything you have....I'm ready for it. So I do! In my haste, I forget to bring Obeservers. His sad choke defences are destroyed and his main army gone. But with the sound off I could'nt hear the 4 DT shashing at my guys. I soon noticed this and he had done a bit of damage. I really regret not bringing observers to the battle and this was a stupid mistake that I will never make again. I think his playing style was rubbing off on me. But, did this lack of obeservers really make a difference in the end?....well no ;) . I was glad I got that stupid mistake outta the way on this guy, rather than do it in a real game! I Never make the same dumb move twice, Yet, I was impressed he managed to find the proper build/tech order to achieve DT. With my obersevers proberly in place, I attacked again...this time destroying him with no casualties. He says, "Bye". I reply, "later" My destruction of his main continues.... He repeats, "bye" I reply, "Well leave then". Maybe he was expecting me to leave first and snag the win.
This was by far the worst person I have ever played. I was actually thinking about disconnecting and not getting the win as a 2 pound blind monkey with no legs could have won playing this guy. I decided to get the win...just to give him a loss he really really really really deserved.
Lessons learned:
-For me: I was quite happy with the way I played in early game. Everything came together quite nicely. Other than falling prey to some sad DT I believe I did everything quite well for my first time playing Toss in a while. Now that I got the Observer mistake outta the way...I'm good to go ;) . If I wanted to I could have max supplied on Goons and other stuff (In a real game I would have). I was actually going to attack with 12 of every unit in the game, as in my boredom...I slowly got every building. But he had to go...so.....
Lessons for him:
- I think we can all pick his mistakes out. Besides my hands would hurt if I did
BTW: I normally don't rag on ppl like this, but this guy was a REAL exception. How could you not? I'm up way late now...as I tried to sleep, but I just could'nt stop thinking about this game. I don't understand what mades him tick. I don't know if I should laugh or feel sorry for him. Normally after a game where the other guy did'nt play so well...I stay behind and try to help....but this one was just a lost cause. I have screenshots....but they are nothing special. I think we can all imagine what 2 probes on minerals and one on gas looks like, and me doing a goon push on his main ;) . But...If by popular demand...I'll post them in the comments area.
To JSH: I wonder what a battle would have been like between this guy and the guy in your battlereport : Sunkencraft. That would have been the oddest game of all time ;) . I hope I did your Newbie reports justice. |
