Let's get ready to rumble!
After floating my CC and killing off my SCVs, I checked out each player's starting build. Johnny started a supply depot first, following with a refinery and a barracks simultaneously afterwards, and then he proceeded to construct an academy for comsat, and finally a factory before his starport. Old"El"Paso (OEP) started with a similar build.
YashaStar constructed first a pair of supply depots, then a refinery, and finally a barracks followed by a factory and an engineering bay, intending to boost his economy and defenses first. Corsair_Tribe (CT) began with a pylon and gateway, then warping an assimilator and a forge and cybernetics core simultaneously. He then proceeded to bring a stargate forth from Aiur and place a few cannons near his nexus.
Yasha elected to construct towers near his SCVs before proceeding to build a starport, while Johnny scouted with comsat and proceeded, along with OEP, toward a siege tank/M&M drop. OEP's scout wraith enters a tussle with a scouting Corsair fighter from CT, surprisingly forcing the corsair to retreat! Johnny and OEP realize that with a corsair build, CT will be thin on ground defenses and prepare a drop surprise for him.
CT lands the first expansion of the game by shuttling a probe to the lower right starting location vacated by the observing Terran. This move proves invaluable, for this expansion escapes attack for the entire game. Johnny_Vegas is the next to expand by floating a command center to the natural expansion at the foot of his island's cliff. He quickly constructs two barracks there with a bunker for defense. OEP makes a similar move toward his natural, but three scouting wraiths from YashaStar catch his building attempt. They open fire on the lonely CC, and OEP's marines are too far out of range to intervene. In a moment of confusion, the CC lifts into the sky, providing the wraiths a target for their gemini missiles! The CC takes heavy damage and sets back down, only to be destroyed by the wraiths' burst laser cannons.
CT has constructed a large fleet of corsairs and patrols the airspace between the nearest island to his starting location and his main base itself. Unbeknownst to him, however, Johnny and OEP have four dropships between them loaded with a ground assault targeted at CT's main base. The two players scout, confer, then wisely swing in from the south, avoiding CT's cannon ring, and drop four siege tanks, a goliath, and assorted infantry with medics on the south edge of CT's island. Probes, a nexus, cannons, and buildings die in flames as corsairs can only watch. SCV's construct towers to ward off air attacks as the destruction spreads into CT's base, demolishing a gateway and fleet beacon. A group of wraiths from YashaStar come to the rescue, braving missle tower fire to destroy a tank and a few marines before being duly slaughtered. During the attack, Johnny techs to his infamous specialty of nuclear weapons.
CT realizes that he cannot save his base with his assets on hand, and retreats to his expansion with his fighters while teching to disruption web. YashaStar takes the opportunity to expand to his natural and the island immediately north of his position, defending the island with a small group of marines and his natural with nothing at all. A Johnny_Vegas dropship spots the island expansion attempt and logs it's location for a future attack. OEP has neglected to expand, while Johnny has a booming economy with a third base at the island southeast of his main base.
A few CT scouts, backed by Yasha wraiths and ten dweb equipped corsairs, strike quickly at the Terran drop force and salvage what's left of CT's main; this includes a gateway, forge, robotics facility, and observatory as well as numerous cannons and pylons. OEP loses a small group of wraiths in an attempt to intercede while again expanding to his natural.
CT moves a probe back to the wreckage of his main and begins a new nexus, restarting his economy there while constructing observers, scouts, and corsairs. The tiny spies creep across the map, holding silent vigil over expansions.
Johnny_Vegas unloads an attack force of goliaths and ghosts on Yasha's island expansion with 4 wraiths running air cover; his attack wave is destroyed, but not until they distract Yasha long enough for a ghost to drop a nuclear missile squarely on Yasha's command center! All of YashaStar's defending wraiths explode along with his SCV's. More fighters from Yasha's main scramble to defend the expansion from further attacks.
Johnny chooses to expand again, moving to the top center starting location's natural. Two barracks spring up to defend the encampment and a third (yes, third) nuclear silo is constructed next to the command center.
OEP is busily constructing an expansion at his natural, but unbeknownst to him he's building under the watchful eye of a CT observer! The observer records OEP teching to battlecruisers before a tower shoots it down.
Johnny is moving to the attack again, with a pair of dropships containing siege tanks, medics, and marines along with a science vessel. Passing near a protoss observer, they are intercepted in-flight by a large group of corsairs, scouts, and wraiths! The entire attack force is wiped out and only Johnny's science vessel lives to tell the tale. Realizing his need for increased production, Johnny expands again, this time to the top center start location. He constructs a group of valkryies, matched by CT's massive production of corsairs and Yasha's assembly line of wraiths. OEP is also constructing wraiths to assist in the air battle.
Johnny escalates the nuclear war by dropping near Yasha's undefended natural expansion as OEP's wraiths engage and pin down Yasha's air contingent. A large air battle ensues with all four players bringing fighters into the area; but Johnny takes advantage of the distraction to drop a nuke on Yasha's natural! The working SCV's are demolished and OEP's remaining wraiths sweep in to complete the destruction of the command center.
CT makes an offensive move of his own, however, using a group of corsairs to disruption web the static defenses of Johnny's two expansions in the top center, and causes havoc with his scout squadron.
Johnny ignores this onslaught for the moment, dropping another nuke on a cluster of Yasha's supply depots. They disappear in flames and OEP again moves in to capitalize on the destruction with his wraiths, but he is driven off by marines and goliaths.
Johnny then manages to save his expansions by using comsat to spot and swat the observer escorting CT's air group, and then using cloaked wraiths to destroy the ground-attack capable scouts.
There is no rest for the wicked as OEP begins to throw his nuclear weight around; but he's thwarted by a timely comsat scan from Yasha. His wraiths, attacking the same location, fare little better. OEP rethinks his strategy and backs off to expand to the island northeast of his main base.
Amazingly, CT has neglected to construct high templar! Instead, he focuses on his combined corsair/scout strategy.
Johnny's nukes are more successful, however, as he lands a pair in succession to completely destroy the expansion base that CT had created at his natural during the flurry of earlier attacks. OEP again fires a nuke at Yasha's main, heavily damaging Yasha's twin starports. Wraiths moving in to finish the structues are struck by an EMP and chowdered by a mass of Yasha's stimpacked marines. Johnny comes to the rescue with more fighters and defensive matrix, but is overwhelmed by Yasha's newly constructed goliaths.
Yasha acts during the lull in the action, floating a command center to the right-center island expansion and establishing a base.
CT's corsair/scout air group swings into action again, destroying OEP's newest island expansion before it can really get started. OEP is down to a depleted main and one expansion, his natural. Johnny recognizes the danger and moves valkryies to help with defense matrix, but loses his entire air force to the sheer overwhelming power of the protoss contingent. Yasha and CT rule the skies with combined wraith and corsair/scout squadrons.
OEP is in danger of running out of resources and expands to two places simultaneously; the left-center island expansion and his beleagured northeast island expansion (again). His attempts are spotted, and the massive combined fighter group from Yasha and CT move to destroy them. By sheer chance they intercept and destroy another Johnny_Vegas drop along the way, as well as trashing Johnny's new expansion attempt onto one of the center islands!
Things are looking grim for Johnny and OEP as the fighter force demolishes OEP's middle left island expansion and proceed to his last working source of minerlas and vespene. OEP sends four unupgraded battle cruisers to take on the fighter force, but the massive ships are ground to dust by the tactical air group. The expansion looks to be lost, but Johnny mounts a massive rescue operation. He drops four goliaths and sends a few valkryies, weakening the enemy air group enough so that his shining new fleet of six battle cruisers can smash what's left. CT's only survivors are a trio of corsairs that scurry back to his main base.
CT yet again rebuilds his natural expansion in order to maintain his massive fighter production. Johnny is looking to counterattack against Yasha's expansions with his battlecruiser fleet, but Yasha's extensive starport network cranks out another squadron of omnipresent wraith fighters to intercept Johnny's attack. Nine Yasha wraiths are traded for five of Johnny's cruisers and two science vessels. The three surviving wraiths move to attack Johnny's newest expansion attempt in the center, but are sent down in flames by OEP's reinforced fighter group.
CT is desperate for resources and expands to the center island counterpart to Johnny's, as Johnny fires another nuke into CT's natural expansion.
Two more of Johnny's Battlecruisers die holding back an attack at his scorched center island expansion, when OEP drops a bombshell; he has to leave. Johnny is understandably angry as his partner vanishes from the game. There's a quick discussion and Johnny turns down Yasha's gracious offer to ally, choosing to continue the battle outnumbered.
Johnny now unveils a new stratagem. He knows he must deny his enemies resources, so he constructs a large group of science vessels and sends a trio of matrixed dropships into the teeth of the defenses at CT's center island expansion. The ships unload goliaths, marines, and siege tanks and begin to demolish probes and photon cannons. Scouts from CT and wraiths from Yasha descend from the clouds to sweep away the invaders. During the confusion, Yasha expands to the island southwest of CT's main base.
JV refuses to let CT's center island expansion live and attacks again, this time with a squadron of matrixed wraiths. The shielded fighters take out all the probes and the nexus before falling to the combined firepower of three times their number in assorted enemy fighters. Yasha had sacrificed his wraiths yet again in the defense of CT's expansion.
This proves telling as he is caught without air support when five matrixed dropships unload M&Ms all over his newest expansion island. The marines stim and go nuts while accompanying SCV's construct missile towers. The expansion and a fair number of CT's defending scouts are mauled by the attack.
Yasha retaliates with a tank, marine, medic, and ghost drop on Johnny's final working expansion on the left center island. A nuke falls, demolishing Johnny's defenses and removing the base from the map. Johnny keeps the income flowing by expanding to the island he's just liberated from Yasha.
Johnny is not yet ready to quit. Another convoy of matrixed dropships unloads a mess of medics and marines on Yasha's final producing expansion base. Despite losses to irradiate and CT's air power, the stimpacked marines chew through the SCVs and command center. Yet another group of Yasha's refurbished wraiths arrive to rescue the barracks and science facility remaining on the island.
With Yasha denied of resources and short of units, CT acts quickly to destroy Johnny's sole working expansion. Johnny retreats briefly and Yasha shuttles SCVs over to expand to that spot.
Johnny returns with a vengance. Another matrix-dropship raid lands, and Yasha hurriedly gathers his SCVs and evacuates as Johnny reestablishes his position.
Yasha re-expands to the center-middle island with his dwindling resources, as Johnny drops stimmed marines around to clean up random, unattended enemy terran troops.
The dreaded combined fighter force returns, and begins to sweep Johnny's depleted bases. They start with the gas-only expansion south of Johnny's main and move north.
Johnny loads up another matrix-dropship raid, but returning CT fighters catch him over his expansion and a huge battle ensues! Matrixed marines with medic support and science vessels battle it out with wraiths, scouts, corsairs, and even a reaver drop! Amazingly, though masterful micromanagement, Johnny holds his position and defends his expansion. Johnny foritifies his position with medics and marines and sets up for a drop on Yasha's last expansion. All the remaining forces in the game are concentrated as Johnny's mob of matrixed valkryies draws the fire of CT's fighters and M&Ms unload onto the island. CT shows his own skills in micromanagement as he drops disruption webs all over the island. Johnny's lockdowns aren't enough to save his disabled marines and the attack fails.
With his defenses stripped, Johnny holds out as the corsair/scout group of CT, this time supported with high templar, attack his fortified expansion. Both templar are irradiated but the base finally falls. Meanwhile, battlecruisers and wraiths from Yasha begin to burn through Johnny's main. His last cloned lockdowns failing, and CT's new carrier fleet cruising toward his expansion, Johnny finally concedes defeat. Alliances are made by all and this truly epic battle is concluded.
Best quote of the game, made by YashaStar after one of Johnny's terror raids: "Damn your black heart, Johnny!"
Lessons Learned:
-For god's sake, build templar! Yikes! They would have helped a lot against Johnny's M&M drops.
-Protoss fighters are tough to beat without a mixed, superior-numbers force of your own.
-Defensive matrix is really, really cool.
-Johnny's psychological war of constant attacks and resource denial even when outnumbered nearly won him the game. Imagine that sort of attack with two people, and well...
-Upgrade! Old"El"Paso was stuck with 0/0 air the whole game; he was no match for fully upgraded corsairs and scouts. Ouch.
I'm sorry it's so long, but it sure was action packed. Thanks for reading!
