Greetings!! This is ~ViLaToR~ here getting ready to bring you tonight’s game. In channel Clan VampLegion, (my former clan and the best clan on b.net if you didn’t know) I was just dropping by, and I encountered two clan mates getting ready to engage in combat one on one. I remembered Shinkuu^VL^ from when I was in the clan and knew he was very skilled. I didn’t know Squal^vl^ but they said they had played before so I figured that Squal was probably a good player and that this was going to be a very good game. I am always ready to learn and develop new techniques so I figured watching Shinkuu would be beneficial to me. I asked to watch and they agreed to let me. While in the waiting room a thought struck me. I want to do a battle report. I have read numerous reports from the battle reports website, and I wanted to do one of my own. So I told them that I was thinking about doing a battle report, and Shinkuu immediately expressed great interest. Squal, on the other hand, didn’t agree. His first words were
“ Oh No! Please don’t make a fool out of me.”
Regardless, I knew I was going to report it, even if I never submitted it or showed it to anyone. I wanted to see how I would do because I had never done a battle report before. So the game countdown timer started, and we were under way.
Opening Moves:
So both players select Terran, as they previously discussed, and Shinkuu’s CC is placed in about the 2:30 position, while Squal’s CC is placed around approximately 7:00. Both players begin scv construction, and Shinkuu sends out an scv to scout, beginning in the 12:00 position, and then moving counter clockwise.
Squal and Shinkuu both build supply depots at 8 supply, and then barrack closely after. Squal is staying away from his ramp, around his minerals, while Shinkuu seems to be walling himself in. After this, both players take different building strategies, Squal building another barracks and Shinkuu puts down a refinery, looking to start teching right away. Then he lays down another supply depot in front of his ramp, blocking it off from ground troops, but having a barracks that he can lift off if he needs to move ground units out of his base. This is a commonly used strategy on Lost Temple when playing as Terran.
About this time, Squal comments, “I’m playing without sound, make sure that goes in the battle report.”
Boring, no action part of game:
Both players continue teching and building units without attacking or scouting, apart from the one marine Squal sends only to discover that Shinkuu has walled in. It went something like this:
……..Squal builds another supply depot, a refinery, and then starts his academy…………..Shinkuu starts building factory………………Squal builds two marines………………..Shinkuu builds bunker by ramp…………Shinkuu lifts off barracks by ramp…..Shinkuu puts down barracks by ramp (I don’t know why he did this)…….Squal builds two medics……….Squal sends marine to scout………Squal’s marine gets gunned down by Shinkuu’s forces as he discovers the blocked off ramp…………..Squal builds more marines………Shinkuu builds a starport, adds machine shop to factory.
Mid Game:
Whew! After I am managed to keep myself awake through that boring stage of the game, LOL, I start to see some action during the mid game as the players start to reveal what tech paths they are taking. Squal looks to be going M&M (Marines and Medics) while Shinkuu looks to be going for a massive air force, and maybe some drops. Another note I should mention, Shinkuu had much better info on Squal than Squal had on him. Had Squal seen what was happening inside Shinkuu’s base, he would have been more prepared. Although, with it blocked off, he couldn’t exactly do that could he.
Gearing up to make his first move, Shinkuu puts up a control tower on his starport, and at the same time, Squal has just started his factory. Instead, Squal has about 10 marines and 4 medics at the top of his ramp. Shinkuu has one bunker at his ramp, 1 tank not in siege mode, and 1 vulture. By the time Squal’s factory has finished, Shinkuu has a dropship, which he loads up with one tank, one vulture, an scv, and a marine. I let out a small cheer to myself as I prepare to see the first action of the game, and it’s about time.
So Shinkuu flies his dropship over, while back at home he adds another starport. He then drops off the units in the valley between the main at 9:00 and at 6:00, where Squal is. When asked why he did this later he said he wasn’t planning on dropping there, but when he flew over with dropship and saw how high on his plateau Squal had built his buildings, he thought he would harass him some, and that’s exactly what he did.
His tank goes into siege mode and begins peppering the base with arcilite cannon fire. The vulture stands by as backup while the scv lays down a bunker, which the marine happily hops into. Squal, not having any air, brings his M&M group of about 12 marines and 4 medics around to combat the tank and bunker, and gets rid of the intruders losing about 6 marines, due to the repairing scv and the tank showering the marines from afar.
Late Game:
After Squal kills off the invading force, I glance back at Shinkuu’s base and see that two wraith’s have just been produced out the starports at Shinkuu’s base. Also, during this attack, he has smartly expanded to his naturals, knowing that he has the pressure on Squal, and hoping he won’t be attacked by him.
Shinkuu flies in with his wraiths while his dropship makes a hurried trip back to pick up two siege tanks. The wraiths harass the scv’s for a bit but are chased off by a hastily built missile turret. Then the dropship arrives and drops its cargo in the same valley as before, and the two tanks siege up. They open fire on Squal’s brand new starport, with help from the two wraiths. Back at Shinkuu’s natural, he has two tanks and a wraith standing guard. Shinkuu has also begun construction of a science facility.
About this time Squal, although he doesn’t say so, concedes the game. He begins shooting down his own lifted off barracks with about 6 stimmed marines, and then tells also his scv’s to attack a nearby supply depot. After both buildings are destroyed, as well as many more by Shinkuu, Squal tells all his scv’s to repair another nearby supply depot, while all of his stimmed marines gun it down. With a little help from Shinkuu, the scv’s lose the battle and the depot blows up in smoke. Shinkuu now has three wraiths helping, and cloaks them and the goes for the kill. Meanwhile, Squal is now killing off his own medics.
As Shinkuu’s wraiths finish off the base, I take a look back at his natural. I am surprised to see 7 siege tanks and about 12 marines, along with a science vessel. Probably hoping I would get a screenshot of it, which, as you may have noticed, I forgot to do. He has 3 starports and later said if his attack didn’t work he was going to mass wraiths, about 30 of them. However, he never got the chance as Squal concedes the game, and we all leave.
Comments:
-Squal begged me not to report this game, and I would like to say he is a better player than he showed in the game today.
-Clan Vamp Legion is the best!!!
-Thank you for reading my report and goodnight.
