I was given the privelege of reporting on another Johnny_Vegas game, this time with his partner Big-Penis against the dynamic duo of YashaStar and Corsair_Tribe.

So without further ado...

The Map: Lost Temple. Know it, love it, download the PGL version!

The Teams:

In this corner...
Johnny_Vegas, Purple Terran, starting in the north (12:00).
big-penis, Randomed to Cyan Protoss, starting in the east (3:00).

And in this corner...
YashaStar, Randomed to White Zerg, starting in the south (6:00).
Corsair_Tribe, Orange Protoss, starting in the west (9:00).

The Intrepid Observers...
ronin~ and Dev+. We stayed out of the way as best we could. (:

And they're off!

Big-Penis (BP) came out of the starting gate like a madman, quickly building a pylon, gateway, and then another of each without so much as a thought in the direction of vespene gas. His partner Johnny started with a supply depot, then a pair of barracks, and a bunker behind them for defense.

Corsair_Tribe (CT) cranked a pylon and gateway, then immediately began construction of another gateway, a forge, and an assimilator; it looked like he was headed towards a lot of dragoons. YashaStar reached his top tech level instantly, placing a spawning pool into his mess of creep and adding two sunkens for defense before heading for an extractor and the collection of vespene gas.

Johnny's scouting SCV and CT's exploring probe pass like ships in the night, heading toward each other's respective start locations. CT's probe darts up the ramp and hides near the back of Johnny's base to monitor the Terran commander's position, while Johnny's SCV reports the position of the Protoss encampment.

Meanwhile, a scout probe from BP encounters a pair of vicious zerglings. The voracious duo hounds the probe as it runs directly for the other enemy encampment.

During the confused scramble of scouting and counter-scouting, BP constructs a third gateway and is producing zealots. Johnny constructs another supply depot, and a third barracks; a large number of Terran infantry appears to be in the works.

Two zealots emerge from the warp fields of BP's gateways and move to block his ramp. Just in time, as ten zerglings run howling up to meet them! The two zealots hold their position, slashing apart the first two zerglings. The other eight choose to retreat, luring one zealot out of position. Two more zerglings reinforce the attack and the zerglings again attempt to charge up the ramp. The zealots fall back and recieve their own reinforcement; one protoss warrior falls, but the attack is turned back with the blood of many a zergling soaking BP's ramp.

During the attack, CT capitalizes on the confusion to pull something sneaky: he uses his wily scout probe to warp an assimilator onto Johnny's vespene geyser! A few of Johnny's marines fire up their gauss rifles to clear out the protoss structure.

Johnny techs up briefly, obtaining an academy, refinery, and engineering bay for comsat and infantry upgrades. He generously offers to construct a bunker at the top of BP's ramp to augment his defenses. Two marines and an SCV move to suit actions to words, and Johnny continues on to reconnitor YashaStar's zerg infestation.

Lo and behold, he finds but three sunkens, and a second hatchery morphing... and no zerglings! BP and JV gather their assets; they number seven zealots, seven marines, and an SCV.

No time is wasted. The attack force storms right up Yasha's ramp and tears his base apart. Johnny takes a break from managing his support marines and places an offensive bunker next to Yasha's extractor.

CT has not been idle. Eight angry orange-clad zealots march from his base on a mission of destruction. Their target is Big-Penis' main fortress, which contains the spare defenses of a single dragoon, a pair of zealots, and Johnny's bunker. The zealots rip through the bunker as if it's made of tin and ruthlessly slaughter the marines inside. The intruders march into BP's probe line and begin to slash at the toiling probes.

Johnny interrupts the furious attack on Yasha with a call of "Forget white! Save your main!" Three firebats and two marines sprint from his base and the attacking forces of BP are recalled home as BP remembers his workers and sends them scurrying away from the rampaging enemy zealots. The firebats hit themselves up with stimpacks and begin to torch the enemy warriors. The incursion ends with minimal structure damage and a few destroyed probes.

Yasha has managed to escape the destruction of his main base with a single drone. It begins to morph a hatchery at CT's natural expansion and the protoss commander gathers seven zealots around to defend the blight upon the land. Remaining at Yasha's main are a sunken colony, an extractor, and a spawning pool.

Johnny and BP confer, and decide to march over to hit Corsair_Tribe's main base, knowing that Yasha is crippled to the point of death and is no longer a threat. A medic, accompanied by a set of firebats, arrives first on the scene and engage a pack of CT's zealots; the firebats take a hit off of the crack pipe we call a 'stimpack' and light up their flamethrowers. Quickly micromanaging, CT uses his zealots to slash the medic, then the firebats.

The victory is short-lived. A large troop movement of firebats, marines, and zealots storm into CT's natural expansion and crush Yasha's morphing hatchery. They rip into the zealots and storm up CT's ramp to find three gateways, a mass of warping photon cannons, and twin dragoons. The destruction begins when Johnny's firebats stim and lay into the nearest protoss shields. Zealots dash to the attack and chaos ensues. CT dances his dragoons beyond the range of the enemy melee attackers, luring many a Johnny_Vegas firebat to its death among the madly firing photon cannons.

But alas, the last stand is not to be. CT manages his base as if it's the Alamo, tossing up last-second cannons and microing his dragoons madly, but reinforcements of marines, dragoons, and zealots pour in. Big-penis wisely targets the pair of pylons powering CT's trio of gateways, ignoring cannon fire in order to cripple his enemy's production. He is successful in doing so and CT can no longer defend himself.

In a humorous moment amidst the carnage, Johnny bites off a curse as Yasha's final drone launches a furious attack at his empty offensive bunker. I have an accompanying screenshot of this tense engagement. (:

Before CT's base can be destroyed, suddenly he, Johnny, and Yasha simultaneously drop. Big-penis, the last man standing, claims sole possession of the victory!

Lessons Learned:
- Embellishment and description can make even the simplest game seem tense in a battle report. (:

- Zergling rushes of that magnitude are a pretty bad idea on a map with a ramp. Came too late, couldn't penetrate.

- Build attack units. Lots of them.

Cheers,
Dev
