Lifetime Rating for Flint79: 6.3714 |  | Pre-Game: After playing relatively boring game on temple...I decided to go back to my favourite map....Challenger. It's way old, but I love it damnit! Besides....almost anything other than Hunters is bliss (Agree?...I thought so)
Me: Toss (Bottom)
Him: Toss (Top)
Early game: I did my old 7 plyon, 8 Gate, 9 Gate build. I started pumping Zeals and probes when I saw fit. I also went for early gas...and my assimilator was soon processing gas faster than a fat kid runs after an Ice Cream truck. I had about 7 Zeals....and one said to me that he would scout and give me some recon. I gave him a warm goodbye and he was on his way as fast as his little unupgraded legs would carry him. I made a Cyber Core and started on making goons as I saw fit. My zealot arrives at his choke and sees 4 cannons warping in. He runs past them....I yell, "Nooooo....come back!!!!" (Actually, I secretly forced him to go on into the base...but I did'nt want my troops thinking I was at fault for his soon death...it's bad for morale). He runs into 3 cannons by his nexus and is destroyed. After seeing him go cannon crazy....I decide to expand to my mineral only expansion (To my right). After all...those cannons cost mucho bucks, I doubt he would have a half decent attack force when spending so much on cannons :) .
Mid-Game: I got my expansion going quite nicely and cannoned it a bit. I soon had more minerals than I could spend....so I threw up another gate. By this time I was also able to put observers on all the mineral patches and noticed he had'nt expanded. I saw that my minerals were coming in just fine...but I had a gas problem. Too many minerals and not enough gas to combine it with. I thus shuttled over a probe and expanded to my island. I soon had the gas I craved. I tells ya...getting observers in that base was a bitch. So many damn cannons...but one observer just before his death reported he had about 3 carriers.
I laughed....what does he think this is, BGH? If anyone can build carriers effectively through one base...I would like to see it. Damn...I had too much money...I threw down 3 Stargates and was gonna focus on Scout production. I then saw a HARDCORE key flaw in his base. His choke full 'o' cannons was powered by one plyon. I looked at the cannons...I looked back at my goons...I looked back at the cannons...I looked back at my goons..and Yelled, "OVER THE TOP!!!!"
Late-Game: I attack the one supporting plyon with my goons and it falls...the un-powered cannons fall soon after. He yells ,"HOLY SHIT" (He was on constant caps....I find that SOOOOO annoying). My goons reach his base...where low and behold...there are more cannons 12+. Once again all supported one plyon :) . The pylon falls as I destroy his carriers (un-upgraded...4 interceptors only). I'm just kicking the crap outta his main...when in one last dire attempt, he sends a fresh carrier in the direction of my main. My goons take pot-shots....and my two scouts intercept it. The game is over and he strikes up some conversation.
Him: HEY! LEMME SEE WHAT YOU GOT B4 YOU KILL ME
Me: sure
*Shared vision*
Him: HOLY SHIT. HOW DID YOU DO THAT SO FAST?
Me: You made way too many cannons man
*I continue to destroy is main*
Me: cannon in then carriers = BAD IDEA
Him: I ONLY NEEDED ONE MORE CARRIER
Me: Then what?
Him: YOUR ASS WOULD HAVE BEEN MINE, YOU HAVE NO DEFENCE
(I forgot to say "What the hell are cannons gonna do to carriers?)
Me: lol...what about my mass goons...not to mention I could have whipped up scout navy really fast.
Him: THEY SUCK
Me: Actually...they would have eaten your carriers. (I would have outnumbered any carriers he would have had like 5 to 1)
Him: WELL....I'M OUT
Me: Yeah later
As the great JSH has said before, "I hope he learned something from that game...but somehow I doubt it).
Lessons learned:
-His lessons learned were all illustrated above :) . Expand. Challenger is not BGH and get some recon for the love of God. P.S Carriers are not the end all and be all of Starcraft.
- I felt I played well....my marco and mirco combined nicely...and I was very happy with my decision to expand after seeing those cannons for the first time (It really payed off).
