I told Upgraded to play without me and asked if anyone wanted to 2v2 us. Yasha and Breakfeast answered and the game soon commenced.
Positions:
Helmintes- right side, Zerg, picked
Goukoudragonz- Teal, left side, Protoss, random
Yasha- Red, top, Zerg, random
Breakfeast- Blue, bottom, Zerg, random
The begining:
I started out with my normal build order. I got 2 early sunkens to defend rushes then a triple hatch. I spotted Red early with my overlord. Goukou decided to use a tactic I don't approve of but it seemed to work. He sent a probe along the left side of Red's base and started making a pylon followed by canons. He had 5-6 up when red's newly forming hatchery was destroyed. At this time, red and blue tried to combine efforts and kill Goukou. I guess they thought since he was spending money on canons, he would have no defense. Luckily, Goukou had ample defense for lings (about 5 canons at home) which stopped them from attacking. Red's creep and more sunkens stopped Goukou's canon march and destroyed one. Goukou turned his attentions home..
I on the otherhand had decided to attack Blue. I figured he was weak and no match for my 36 speed enhanced Zerglings. I attacked and soon found myself against some other lings (no speed) gathering at my choke. I kept killing them and advancing when I finally gathered at his choke. I had suffered about 5 casualties. The time it took to reach there gave him plenty of time to set up some sunkens. I sent my lings in and killed about 10-15 other lings and a few sunkens. Red had made a hatchery there (I bet since he thought he would die from the canons) and was constantly making lings to help with the effort. Seeing my forces' immenent defeat, I targeted his spawning pool. Before it could die, my lings were dead. Goukou had some zealots and I had more lings and we attacked again. My lings died to more sunkens and Goukou's zealots succumed to reinforcements from red. We killed red's hatchery in the process. I had already sent more lings when red attacked me. He managed to claim a sunken for himself before my lings popped out and prevented further damage. I sent more lings and somehow killed blue's spawning pool in an effort to slow him down.
The long haul:
I had already made a lair and started to make a spire. Blue had done the same thing. Goukou, seeing red's almost devastating attack on me, decided to make more canons, expcept this time, at red's choke. This prevented him from intervening on my attackson blue and stopped him from expanding by land. 2 mutas and a Hydra were hatched when Blue sent 2 Mutas at my drone-chain. I pushed them back with only losing the Hydra. I had took the liberty to expand to my natural and started production on Hydras, instead of lings.
My new base was complete and I began to make drones to start mining for me. Red tried to break free put the canon's pushed him back. I figured he'd be weak and short on money so I told Goukou to get ready and attack with me. I sent about 20 Hydras and Goukou had about 12 Goons. We attacked and managed to cripple his defending force and kill some sunkens. Then I noticed my poorly defended expansion had become engulfed with Blue's forces. I started madly making men. I sent all my men and found a gathering of about 30-40 lings and 5 Mutas. My men were no match and quickly fell. Goukou helped me with some templar before my reinforcements came. This spot would soon become a hot-spot and the place of many decisive battles. Goukou expanded to his natural to gain more funds.
Blue sent more men and killed my expansion along with my drones. He then proceeded to attack my main. Freshly made Zerglings helped me repel his invasion. I had made more land units, this time I included lings in the recipe and re-expanded. Meanwhile, Goukou had sent more goons and razed red's main. Yasha took all his Hydras (about 20) and expanded to his right, where he would try to hold that spot for the remainder of the game. With Red hurting and out of the picture for a while, I felt more at ease. But I wouldn't be lucky enough for peace to construct a respectable army. I tried to stop red from having the luxary of existence by dropping 12 hydras right after his main fell, but he had good scouting and saw them coming and ammassed his army to defend against them. 8 Hydras dropped and my 2 overlords fleed. He would have his way for now..
During all this, blue had made more men very quickly (I suspect at least 5 hatcheries) and attacked my expansion again. I cancled my hatchery and called Goukou for help. He had a strong army of Goons and Dark Templar. The advancement was stopped and I proceeded to expand there again, and again in the top left spot. Goukou and I suspected Breakfeast would go for Guardians, so Goukou got a group of 12 corsairs.
Peace time ends:
There was a lull in the battle. I had the chance to make more money with my 2 new expansions (one half depleted) and my main was sucked about dry. I found out Yasha's old main base still had lots of minerals, so I was about to expand there. I made 2 sunkens at my natural in case Blue would attack there again. Eventually, I scouted out and found Blue had expanded to his natural, but not on the island to his right. I also suspect he expanded to the highlands on his left. I had asked Goukou for more men, sensing Blue would attack us soon. My army was still weak and meager. I had about 24 lings and 12 Hydras in the spot between my main and my natural.
Blue came again. The first wave I fended off, but he sent more and more. Goukou had men there too and sent more. I told him not to send any more and I evacuated that base. It was almost depleted and I didn't have much use for it. I expanded in Red's old main where it was safer. I planned to expand to the south-east island, but my overlord was killed by scourges. I saw Blue had made Guardians, but only about 5 and Goukou quickly destroyed them before they could do much harm. It was at this time I realized how stupid I was. I was being overcome by lings, and what can kill lings like FatBastard eats babies (Austin Powers 2 joke)? You got it, lurkers. I failed to research Lurkers before and started to while making more Hydras. Goukou had claimed the hot spot again.
It had been a while since we heard from red, then I saw Hydras being dropped above my main. I sent men and Goukou sent Goons and Dt's. I don't know if we suffered any casualties. I told Goukou to kill all of red's overlords and I dropped 2 lurkers and 12 Hydras on his base. Red had no detection and I was free to attack with Lurkers. I broke through his Hydra line and saw he had about 5 sunkens scattered throughout his base. I made more lurkers at home and more with my remaining force. Goukou was occupied fending off Blue for me. I had about 7-8 Lurkers that were sieging red. He had only one hatchery left and started to make an overlord. He wisely withdrew his Hydra army before I could kill them. My lurkers were mostly out of range of one another and couldn't concentrate on helping each other. I lost about 6 lurkers before Goukou came back and killed the lord. I dropped more Hydras and Yasha was finally defeated.
Right after this happened, we noticed about 8 overlords coming for my main. Goukou quickly sent men to the dropzone. Along with my Hydras, Blue's final front was destroyed. He said "gg" and left shortly after. This game lasted for about 50 minutes.
Lessons learned:
-Zerg wars usually produce a combination of Zerglings and Mutas. If this happens, get lurkers. I was a complete idiot by keeping Hydras and lings only. I could have saved myself from many near-defeats by making Lurkers. I still don't know why I didn't make em in the first place, I had plenty of gas to do so.
- Cannoning in someone is extremely cheap, but nonetheless effective. Goukou stopped Red from making a combined effort to attack me. Yet, they never attacked Goukou's bases save the early attack on his Canons.
- This game was very low tech because each side was just trying again and again to break the other's line and win (which they and we were very close to many times). Noone hardly upgraded (I noticed some 1/0 lings from Blue, but that's about it). Had I upgraded, it could have also helped save me from getting run over again and again, with the right units too.
I hope this BR is more accurate than my last one. I think I messed up the orders of some attacks and left some out completely. They weren't anything big though, the game is basically there as it is now. |
